same again, reboot. But this time the system didnt detect my monitor and just booted right into windows while leaving the monitor to stay black.

Im having a slightly similar problem to this and was wondering if anyone could give me any help or ideas. This is the first time I have put a PC together.

Have everything set up now and connected as best as I know how to. When I power on all fans spin, including the fan on my X800 XL the problem is that there seems to be nothing picked up by the monitor? If just stays black or in standby mode? Have tried my ram in different slots as well as a completely different module from another PC and still no luck getting the monitor to display anything. Oh have tried two monitors as well again nothing?

Anyone?

Anyone know a good beginners guide to setting up this motherboard?

These are a few connections I am unsure about.

E.g. in front of the 24 pin power connector there is a 4 pin connector, does some thing have to go in here?

E.g. above the DFI fan there is a molex connector and the manual says something about this being for the HDD but I’m connecting power straight from my power supply to the HDD is this correct?

Yes it does, thats the 12V P4 connector.

Connect a molex to it, they're referring to it as a HDD connector instead of a molex, yes you should attach it.

Also at the end of the first yellow slot is a floppy connector attach that too.

was it a fresh windows install ?

yeah, was a clean install of xp with sp2. I had the latest audigy drivers but didnt have the eax control panel etc installed. Have installed them now so we will see if that solves anything. Only other thing I could think is that I have a really old ide drive in there that could be screwing things up, I was copying some data across from the ide to the sata drives last night and the second i hit the 'c' key in 'ctrl-c' to copy i got a bsod. This was while lots of other files were already tranferring. I have set the nforce 4 fan to kick in at full speed on lower temps and it now runs at 44-45 degrees idle instead of 52 in mbm.

Another oddity....i get a lower 3dmark 05 score (only by 40 points or so) when i run the ram at 2-2-2-5 than when i run it at auto timings....weird things these pcs lol. Im still not satisfied my ram timings are correct along with the cpu/vdimm voltages. Does anyone have any recommended genie settings for ocz platinum r2 3200? I am not looking to overclock yet, just run tight timings at stock HTT and get best gaming performance.

Cheers for any help.

Which ethernet conection is the best to use on this board(does it make a differance) ,jusr reason i ask is i seem to be having some problems with high pings on All Seeing Eye ,but yet if i ping them via the cmd prompt all is fine, and this has only happened since i changed to this board.(still could maybee be an ASE issue though)
either way which conection is the best to use, the marvell or the nvidia, and should i have both the drivers installed for them ,or just the one i am using.

thanks

joe ive used both, didnt notice any differance at all, though i do find one program runs better using the nvidia one (firewalls off and no software installed for it though)

I have used both too, with no noticeable difference.

I don't think anyone runs faster, but the marvell did cause stuttering in some games with an early driver- think thats fixed now.

Whatever you use - just rem the Nvidia firewall software is a resorce hog.

ASE has always reported exaggerated pings for me, but in game is fine. Have you got ASE setup to use a 'pinger' on your behalf or is it using your machine to ping? The default install of ASE uses the yahoo servers to scan and they are located in the states. I use the edome scanner which is in finland and works quite quickly.

Try installing xfire or using in game browser to see what pings they give.

In terms of which nic to use, i use the nvidia one for online gaming and it works great. Pings are in the 20-30 ms bracket for UK servers. I don't use nvidia firewall though. I have installed both drivers as I use the 2nd lan port to connect to other machines using a crossover.

Hope this helps.

is it best to choose 1 then and disable the other ,or actually uninstall the drivers for the one you are using.

also what way is the best way to get rid of the nvidia firewall, disable it? or will i have to uninstall it if possible. to get all my resources back.

im having some issues with this board and random BSOD's.......well kinda random.

I to also was suffering from bsod's and following advise from dave and some of the others here it looks like so far i have cured it , i never had the floppy conector power lead plugged into the motherbaord (beside the small pci-e slot),,and also atm am just running 1 stick of ram ,and pc seems to of lost bsod's..if all is ok tommorow i will put back in the other stick or gskill and see how we go.

Joe i always dissable things that I don't use( I.e Floppy controller etc). Saves resorces.

Seems that many new setups have problems from memory configuration, noit sure if AUTO sets some advanced options too tight for certain modules.

Hey, i have a problem with my setup. i started reading this thread for an answer, but gave up at page 21 after hours of reading! so i appologise if this has already been answerd.

I have 4x 256mb DDR XMS3200XL Platinum.
I have the common problem where it only boots if only 1 stick in slot 1 or 2. so i go ahead and do whats been said soo many times in this thread... flash to latest bios. but still doesnt fix it. i cant change any settings in bios, cos it wont boot after. Ive seen a few mentions that maybe i should up the ram voltage, but im worried because i dont want to damage the ram, and whenever i change bios settings anyway, it wont boot again till i reset it with jumper anyway, so i hav not risked trying.

anyone got any sugestions, starting to really wind me up, comp runs awfull with only 256mb ram!

Hi i run with 4 sticks off gell ram, in bios i have ram volts at 2.8 and t2 that should help but i dont know if corsair is compatible tba

Been happy with my new setup for a while, will be even happy'er once my gcard comes back, anyway was messing round and put battlefield on over the weekend.

Firstly had problems with the nvidia firewall, couldn't work out how to configure it to connect to external games - this was sorted by turning firewall off :( .

Secondly am getting random reboots during game play, have no bsod or anything just the machine clicks and reboots - suspect it may be a power issue, but it doesn't have this problem when running windows.

Spec is as follows:-

AMD 3200
1gb, 2*512, corsair 4400
x300 gcard
1 * Enermax 483w psu
1 * 36 gig raptor
1 * 120gb seagate
2 * optical drives
5 * case fans
2 * neons

Everything in bios, 310, is set to optimised defaults.

Am I pushing the powersupply too far, or could it be the mem causing the reboot, or is it a nasty gcard that could be causing this.

Regards,

Matt

Check your voltage rails in the bios, I doubt you'd be overloading the PSU though, I have a 480W tagan with a top end GFX card and a big overclock, more drives and its fine.
