****Official Doom 4 Thread****

I don't think I did. Just because it doesn't support the fps you would like would be a silly reason not to buy it imo. 30 sure, but we are now at the stage where 60 is unusable?. Maybe I should just stick with 60 then if moving to anything higher will make 60 unusable in future.

I'm totally with you there, as long as I get a solid 60 I'm happy, looks nice and smooth to me.

This basically. Doom should be fast paced, no brainer action with legions of hordes trying do kill you at the same time, not the 3 or 4 at a time we got in the demo instead.

As the worlds biggest Doom fan I'm extremely dissapointed by what we've been shown so far and by lobbing in a few nostalgic throwbacks and trying to amaze people with graphics and gore doesn't get anywhere near what the soul of Doom was and what was totally missing in Doom 3.

Couldn't agree more.

For me the type of gameplay found in Doom 1&2, you can't improve on it; it's the finished product. If you deviate from that, as with Doom 3, it becomes something else. I see the third game as a threadbare pedestrian shooter with the Doom tag bolted on to it....but it ain't Doom, not in my book.

It's still early days but if that gameplay video is anything to go by, then there's a good chance Doom 4 will be similar to the third game.... but with more lightbulbs.

Trouble is, the demand on a modern system to give you hordes of bad guys in beautifully realised 3D is massive. If you made Doom / II by today's standard you would need a Cray to run it! :p

This is further compounded by the fact the console market is using hardware that is already 5 years out of date. So developers are going to be limited in what they can offer.

I have my fingers crossed for this. I personally feel Doom 3 is one of the most under rated games ever. I would have preferred to revisit the hell on earth scenario that we saw in Doom II. I would also like to revisit the non linear nature of the original games too, and do away with all the hand holding! :)

But alas, it will never happen. :(

Would you though?

Where you have a game with action that is frenetic, fast-paced, you're constantly on the move firing at enemies that are coming at you at speed from all points of the compass, where do you get the opportunity to admire super duper shiny graphics?

I don't see the need for top notch graphics with this type of game, you're having too much fun trying to stay alive than to notice the textures.

Tone down the graphics, crank up the enemy count, make them fast and have them soak up bullets like a champ.

Kinda so so on it, as others have said i can see the MK inspired moves getting stale and repetitive pretty quick. Looks like someone at id was watching the scene from prometheus with the holographic engineers and done a version with the Hell Knight :p

Agree, i thought DOOM 3 was awesome, the set pieces were brilliantly done and it was pretty damn scary. Just it wasn't really doom.

Am looking forward to this, defintately going to be interesting, although i'd happily eat my own head if they make quake 5 and do it well, i still miss quake 2 ctf :(

no Doom 4 needs to be like Doom 3 but with intelligent AI and far less of them, more like Penumbra.

Serious Sam works with huge mass spawnings because it's cleverly handled, the game builds up to it so you're prepared for it, plus they're tunnelled towards you from range...... you see all the Ammo and you realise something really bad is about to happen !!!!

but the game you want is very out of date by today's standards, just like Painkiller is, nobody is interested in that type of game anymore.

Serious Sam 3?

Keep all the lighting effects and perfectly rendered textures and replace them with legions of endless demons and plenty of BFG ammo!

.....quake 5

+1

I'd love to see a new Quake, though the likelihood of it being made like the older Doom and Quake titles is unlikely to say the least. One of the few ways you'll see a 'return to form' where these old games are concerned, is if an indie developer makes it (but obviously not under the same game name). Alternatively, maybe Flying Wild Hog could do something like this justice, seeing as they've already produced good work with Hard Reset.

So is the beta out yet? If it isn't then it's all a bunch of balls in my book!

Quake 4 felt was the same as Doom 3?…

Serious Sam 3 looks quite realistic, but what it doesn't have is all the lighting effects etc, but Egypt/cairo/luxor are all very well detailed.

but SS3 has no atmosphere at all, it's nowhere near as good as DOOM 3 for sheer terror.......... but yea it's a far better shooter.

the biggest failure of all is Painkiller, because that had the most potential, it still does............all the different maps and locations are fantastic

DOOM 4 will be excellent, because it'll be a huge game with loads of areas to travel through, dont be put off by that quick demo

I'm surprised at the hate for D00M3. I understand that it's not as frantic and hung-ho as the earlier games and has a focus on horror & suspense but I thought it was a really well put together game. I especially liked reading the PDAs and discovering the backstory.

What I didn't like was the predictable spawning!

I really hope that D00M4 finds a nice balance between the early games and keeps the horror elements of the third. I do agree with comments about the ammo outlines and weapon models above.

Looks like the usual twitter crowd are taking to the stands, claiming Doom 4 looks too violent!

Heh! It's not quite as messy as Quake 3. Especially with quad damage. The screen sometimes turned red if a lot of players were around. Or playing excessive.
