****Official Doom 4 Thread****

Comments for those who might be interested...

- I'm on crossfire 7950 Boosts with an i5 4570k. Doom doesn't support crossfire. It does, however, still manage to output 45+fps at medium at 1440p, which I reckon is pretty damn impressive considering how it looks and the age of hardware, so well done to the iD guys on a decent performance impression from my perspective.

- The pace of the game is great. I haven't tried the multiplayer yet, but I'm really hoping for something reminiscent of Quake 3 Arena, because that's what the "feel" of the movement is like in this so far.

- It's going to divide people, but I really like the glory kill system. It makes sure you get up close and visceral in order to improve your survivability, and that's what Doom is all about.

- Ironically the starting pistol sounds far meatier than the shotgun - sound effect could do with a tweak there!

- I don't mind playing on medium. Without a doubt, when admiring a new area, High would be nicer, but at the speed of this game I really can't say I'm standing around admiring the scenery much!

So far, so good. It's been a long time since I picked up a game on release day, my last one was Arkham City which destroyed my faith in day one purchases. iD might just be restoring that faith with this title :).

MP in the beta was a long way from q3 in the feel of the movement which I found disappointing - not played the SP to compare.

On my relatively humble system I'm getting around 120 fps average with all the important settings on ultra at 1080, the graphics are (imo)great and all runs beautifully smoothly. The latest NVidia drivers boosted performance by a good amount which helped keep It all ticking along nicely.

It looks nice but doesnt seem to have the gritty old feel of Doom and the sounds are nowhere near as chunky as they should be. Example, I was just running around dodging imp fireballs and didnt feel threatened like I did playing Doom 1/2. I also had no idea my health was at 7% until I saw the flashing warning sign. What happened to the sound effects of getting injured and screaming death noises

How do you skip cutscenes? Im not a cutscene guy
How do you un-cap 60fps cutscenes?

On the plus side fps with the 365.19 drivers has shot up. 1440p everything maxed

I get around 90 fps on my 290x with everything set to ultra and 1080p. I do have an ancient processor though, an i7 950.

I'm loving this, runs so well and my 290X keeps it at around 60FPS for the most part, regular dips but I dont notice them at all its so smooth and looks incredible with everything on Ultra at 1440p apart from the setting that gives the 5GB warning

Hmm, can't say I'm really getting the same performance from my 290X. Its high most of the time but can drop to 30-40 at times, especially when there are a few enemies on screen, and I'd rather keep it smooth at such times. Only have a 2500K though so maybe thats not helping.

Anyone got any suggestions on the best settings to drop, anything that is a particular resource hog and doesn't add much? I don't often tinker with these things.

Bought from SimplyGames for £22.99 as this is the cheapest I have managed to find.

Game is great so far, managed to complete 2 missions so far. Keep running and shooting everything on sight :)
