****Official Doom 4 Thread****

This is officially the best FPS I've played since Quake 3, so bloody good. I fear the online won't be so hot though as player movement is like a snail compared to the twitch FPS mechanics they are aiming for. It'll be way too easy to nail people with rockets and Gauss cannons.

Ok, I retract what I first thought, after getting a bit further into the game its pretty damn good actually.

Runs like a dream on max everything and now Ive tweaked a couple things, it looks quite spectacular too.

Gritty Render mode, sharpness max, colour saturation turned down (on monitor as SweetFX does not seem to work for me) and all HUD off apart from the Simple dot crosshair.

I also found that if you disable DOF in settings, it disables DOF when using the weapon wheel and goes into slow motion. Pretty handy after lobbing a grenade and watching the carnage in slow motion :) Just have to ignore the weapon wheel hud but thankfully its not intrusive but hopefully soon someone will find a way of hiding the weapon wheel hud so it just becomes a way of getting slow motion for the cinematic feel. Good thing too is you can still move/strafe when in slow motion to dodge incoming fire, unfortunately you cant look around with the mouse as its used to interact with the weapon wheel. Still a nice feature though, nothing better than watching a grenade go off in the middle of a pack of imps all in glorious slow motion! :)

You lot have made me buy it. I never played Doom 3, maybe time I returned to the series. Another 3 and a half hours till it's finished downloading though :( Having a late night coffee but don't think even that will see me through to playing it tonight.

I think of that scene in GTA V when Tony checks on his son playing that mindless shoot'em up while smoking pot when I think of this. All I've heard is, it looks great and runs like a dream, and is extremely similar to a 25 year old game.

Think I'll save for Overwatch.

Lol the game he was playing would probably be illegal.

Damn these young'ns these days, don't know a good game when it strikes them across the face!

Hmm, can't say I'm really getting the same performance from my 290X. Its high most of the time but can drop to 30-40 at times, especially when there are a few enemies on screen, and I'd rather keep it smooth at such times. Only have a 2500K though so maybe thats not helping.

Anyone got any suggestions on the best settings to drop, anything that is a particular resource hog and doesn't add much? I don't often tinker with these things.

I had the same problem at first (as did many others).

There seems to be a bug with some systems running 290/390 class cards and shadows.

Try setting the game to Ultra, but then shadows to Low, you should get 60fps+ then :)

Just ordered it from the steam link posted earlier.

Ill leave the PC on tonight so it will be downloaded in the morning.

Getting a bit bored of fallout4 so this should be a nice change of pace :)

You need to jump and scale the rotation machinery, the jump on an automated lift, jump onto the top ring there, and then scale around into a vent like area. :)

God that was a pain in the arse, the map makes it seem like you get to the top of that thing from the inside. I was bouncing around for a good half hour doing circuits of the thing.

Those summoner things are bloody irritating

I caved in and bought it as I am weak :o.

Just completed mission 2 and so far its enjoyable, but has none of the atmosphere of Doom 3, which is a shame. The enemies are so plentiful and weak there is no hesitation going through the next door as you know you can just run in and start jumping about killing everything in sight with ease. To me this is more of a throwaway blastemup, very much like Wolfenstein the new order. Fun for a bit, but not likely to play it again after completing. Although saying that I'm still early in the game so my opinion could change as it progresses.

As other have said it looks great and run very well on my 970 with everything cranked up and hasn't dropped below 60 yet. Had one crash to desktop, but hopefully it was just a one off.

Is there a command to switch the game from OpenGL to Vulkan?

Also, I still cannot get ShadowPlay to work in this game. Works fine everywhere else... Am using the latest Doom driver too.

Time to increase the difficulty? I wouldn't even play Dark Souls 3 if the difficulty isn't what it is. Can completely change things.

Think you'll change your tune about weak enemies as you get further in, when you have revenants, mancubi and hell knights charging you its quite different. :)

Right click hold, move around.

Settings to 3440x1440 then settings Resolution Scale to 75% and increasing the sharpness from 2.5 to 4 has resulted in 60fps constantly with adaptive vsync now. Visually there's no loss in IQ, the textures are a bit sharper from the increased sharpness too. temporal AA remains enabled and everything else on Ultra.

Superb!
