****Official Doom 4 Thread****

I somehow ran out of monsters on mission 7 to get the full performance rating, just a fraction off :(. I think at the very beginning there are a few cyber demnons that dont attack you, maybe you have to try and hit them as they fly away?

I'll have to give the multiplayer a go. I quite liked Quake 4 before everyone stopped playing it.

Don't think the minigun would be in issue in multiplayer tbh, it's a lot like the lightning gun from Quake 3, it's really not very good unless the user is accurate, especially at long range.

Although you move about 1/4 the speed you do in Quake so that would make the minigun a lot easier to use, so you probably have a point.

So my problems with the mouse go deeper than I thought - having some issues with 2560x1440 which is making it laggy and stuff - dropping down to 1920x1080 and suddenly its all working fine with almost normal mouse feel :| (seems to be a more complex issue than something like having V-Sync on or running out of VRAM, or the GPU not being upto it, etc.).

(Even at 60fps at 1440p the mouse feels laggy even in the menus while at 1080p its far more responsive - something isn't right at all).

^Think you mean cacodemon? The flying eyeball thingy.

Ahh yeah thats the one. Guess i'll play thast mission again and try and kill one before they fly away. i cant have missed any rooms as I got all secrets.

Anyone know a good place to do the 'thread the needle' challenge on mission 9? Have to kill 8 demons with one shot. I was trying to herd some possessed into a corner to fire a rocket but a pinky turned up and killed them all lol.

This with 780ti or 970 ? Do both perform the same at 1440p? Mouse feels very good to me mate, and has am sure you know am a CSGO player so I understand whats laggy input etc

780 - with the 970 is fine 80-100fps or so at 1440p.

When I drop to 1080p both cards perform broadly similar.

i.e. with the 780 at 2560x1440p with all low settings it will get 43fps in a the same scene where at 1080p with ultra settings it will be well over 60fps.

With either the 970 at 1080 or 1440p or 780 at 1080p the mouse feels fine - still a little bit of acceleration but nothing like what I was complaining about before - with the 780 at 1440p even in the menus at 60fps the mouse feels laggy.

970 doesnt do 80-100 at 3440x1440p with everything max..

Lying on the internet is cool

2560x1440 not 3440 and yes it does an OC'd 970 manages around 80-100fps or so with ultra settings atleast in the first level of the game I've not played it all through yet. (EDIT: OK I ran around for a bit and the average framerate is actually just under 70fps but a lot of the time it is sitting somewhere between 80 and 100).

Can't find a 1440p video quickly but stock 970 at 1080p https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WvWaE-3Aseg - doesn't take much stretch of imagination that an OC'd card is putting in similar performance at 1440p :P

(In comparison at 1440p my 780 is performing like the 390 there in that video on the old drivers - while at 1080p its like the 390 on the new drivers in terms of approximately how its performing - if you get what I'm trying to say).

Just throwing these specs in as people are posting odd numbers for 970.
My rig below gets me 90-100 fps average on the Ultra setting @ 1080p.
adding V-Sync does make my mouse laggy, even though the game runs locked at 60fps all the time. So that i dont understand.

All in all, never felt a single bit of lag in the whole game and suspect I could run a higher resolution if I ever needed it with a solid 60fps+

:D

I just finished the campaign, that was probably the most fun I've had gaming in years! Shame about the stability issues because those aside it absolutely smashed my expectations. Anyone who's holding off, buy it!

I kinda wish I didn't use a CD key site so I'd know for sure the money's going to the right place, but I can't stomach paying more than £30 for a PC game new.

Thinking of getting it thru Simply Games. Anybody have any problems with this website?

since I've sold my 980 Ti and now using my old trusty gtx 660 and running a native 4k monitor I've just finished downloading this game and at 4k maxed out it looks gorgeous! though 10fps isn't playable :p and I refuse to lower the resolution as it looks horrid! as a side note maxed out 1080 with AA x8 it sits around mid 20s low 30s and as I've been waiting for this game since DOOM 3 came out the original not BGF I wont accept anything less than maxed out 4k -.- hurry up GTX 1080 and release already!!
