Still so much to do, level 30 almost 31 and still have like 35-40% of the map left and loads of quests.

Level 5 - exploring the northa little and got wondering about pick pocketing if anyone can help...
I stumbled upon outpost zimonja. I managed to kill a legendary raider and a couple others but "boomer" the Fatman wielding power armour sporting raider remains. I have managed to sneak up behind him and save and keep trying to pick pocket the fusion core to eject him from the armour. The game tells me I have a 10% chance - if I keep reloading the game that I saved crouched behind him, I'm guessing eventually I'll be successful and he'll pop out? Anyone clarify this would work? I haven't got the pickpocket perk which would up my chances and mentats don't seem to increase it either. Game has had to go off for now so can't keep trying till Wednesday maybe
If it's the one with the big tower just run up to the top and set the alarm off a couple of Deathclaws will come and kill everyone. Turn off the alarm and they disappear again. One of them is a legendary Deathclaw so I would avoid trying to take them on at your level.
If not this bit forget all the above....

The quest with the Minutemen involving "The Castle" was incredible. Hard, but awesome none the less.
Aye. Even my Fatman launcher couldn't cut it. (Only had one Fatman)

Got an explosive rifle earlier, upgraded to .50 ammunition, add all the bells and whistles and it does 130 a hit 
Add some nice sneak 3.5x and a critical and it pretty much one shots anything! At least on the default difficulty.

Aye, i was a bit shocked too.she enjoys the looting/scavenging part of the game. infiltrating raider dens and the like.
Funny, my girlfriend loses interest over the looting bits, and the infiltrations of the raider dens etc. but when there's dialogue or interesting story plots, that's when she's interested!

I have to go there, trying not too unlock too much of the map just yet, level 20 ticked over last night. Really finding it hard to choose my perks when I get a point, I want so many of them lol.
I've hardly done anything in game and I'm level 22/23 already... the dumb luck perk (Idiot Savant) is AWESOME! I just do normal stuff and suddenly *Hurhurhur* and I get a full level; 5x whatever Xp from completeing / doing something.
Downside is, my intelligence is only 3, just enough for Gun perk, but dumb enough to go *hurhurhur* fairly regularly.

more worryingly I have a dozen at ten pines and floor space is limited, so i hope that doesnt get much fuller

i could unlock idiot servant but Im not sure as my INT is about level 7 and I heard higher the INT the less chance of idiot servant will work, the way I see it is that with a level 7 INT I would have a 3% chance of activating where as in your case you would get a 7% chance, is that how it works?
I believe that's how it works, I was activating it more regularly at Intelligence 2 than 3 when I first started, till I wanted the Gunnut perk to mod guns.
At your intelligence, it'll be wasted.
The *hurhurhur* bit does add to some humour as I explore and kill someone and it then activates. Brilliant comedy value.

I wasn't until last night when I started building it out a bit more to attract more settlers and I was quite enjoying it. Some of the settlements people have created and shared on the Fallout subreddits are mad!
I'm abotu 11 hours in, level 13-14 I think, and it's safe to say I am finally 'in to' the game now. Can't wait to play again!
Killed a thing called a 'glowing one' last night, which was accompanied by a legendary ghoul. I had to use pretty much all of my heal, loads of psycho things, all of my ammo, and the thing that slows down time in order to kill them both. Took me ages and I died a few times attempting it. But as a reward I got an awesome exploding rifle that I can't wait to try out on some enemies tonight.

Yeah I haven't built anyhthing apart from first place a little, but no walls etc. Have found a fair few though to build up when I feel the need.
My intelligence is too high for that perk Mr Jones, think it's at about 6.
I've spent a few points on the lone perk as I never really travel with anyone else, they get in my way or alert bad guys when I'm trying to sneak about.

Not sure, but I guess in the long run when you have shops and stuff you can use the settlers and assign them to the shops, which can be a way of making money or resources I think.
