**** Official Fallout 4 Thread ****

The start of this game is horrible. Can't play it for more than 30 minutes at a time. Boring prologue (where are my Tunnel Snakes dammit)?

Soon as I enter the open world I bolt in the opposite direction of my objective. In this, there's nothing but dead trees a locked hut. After 10 minutes I hit the edge of the map "turn around ******* noob"!! "Follow your spoon-fed objective omfg"!

Ok, fine.

So I hang out with robot guy and kill bloatflies. Zzzz

Fine Dog Meat and kill some mole rats. Zzz

I realise there's foodstuff to pick up but what's the point? Doesn't appear to be any survival elements. This is rapidly feeling like an open world shooter than an RPG.

I turn the game off when I'm about to pick up some power armour and minigun - I can't stomach the inevitable scripted shoot-out awaiting at this point. When I return it's worse than I thought. This scripted shoot-um-up in the street. Am I playing COD ffs? And that Deathclaw....

Like I read earlier in this thread, it's like Bethesda want to show a new generation of gamers all the awesome content Fallout has to other, in one hour. And I get that you're forced down this path because there's your base of operations that you need to setup, but did they really have to have such late game content thrust in so early into the start of the game?

I'm sure will be more like it's predecessors when I have the settlement stuff out the way, and can do my own thing. But what a horrible start.

You need to give it more time, not everything happens at once.

What...are you talking about.

You start at literally the top corner edge of the map so of course you will quickly hit the boundary. What do you want, it to go on forever in every direction? You can do your own thing as soon as you leave the vault if you want to...

I kind of agree, I'm just at level 3 and past the minigun and kill raiders( + deathclaw) quest. I feel disappointed so far :(.

The UI takes getting used to, it's not clear enough at first sight if you know what I mean, in FO3 or New Vegas or even Skyrim you could more easily see what stuff does or can do, and here it feels overwhelming and the ''overview'' doesn't show the data easy enough. The compass isn't clear enough and it's icons and goals and locations ( perhaps I need more time, but still), it isn't ''easy'' to look at somehow, a problem I've never had in Skyrim or FO3 or N. Vegas.

The economy system has been shuffled and I have no clue what to grab and leave any more, guns can't be used to ''fix'' other guns, armor has been split into many pieces, power armor is now a ''vehicle'' ( if you know what I mean), it's just confusing AF.

The whole game now kind of demands to much time in all the menus, the pip boy, conversations, crafting stations and whatnot, etc... Instead of just walking around the world and doing interesting stuff.

It indeed, feels more like a game for young CoD morons, rather than old Bethesda or Fallout fans.

V.A.T.S. What has happened to it ?

Dialogue system feels odd tbh.

The worst issue, what has happened to the levelling system ? Where are my 0-100 stats ? I want to see what the ''special'' stats do with the actual stats. Just some ****ing perk for leveling up, no other decisions ( like skill points) for leveling up, why ? Either use the Fo3/NV system for leveling with XP's that give you a new level which in turn allows stats AND perks, or stats ( Skyrim) that level up and cause your level to go up in time that allows for perks and extra bonuses ( like hp or mana or stamina in Skyrim).

I will give it another few tries, I spend money on the bugger after all, but unlike Fo3 or new Vegas, I don't feel the urge to play really, it feels forced. The levelling is extremely unsatisfying ''yay a new level, pick some useless perk''. To be entirely honest, I feel more like playing the Skyrim and New Vegas dlc's atm, than Fo4.

You're not wrong. It is a very poor first hour or so, but stuck with it as it greatly improves.

The rpg elements have been stripped, but all of the other gameplay is still great.

After the first bit it gets pretty difficult and much more enjoyable, the first did feel like a go here, do this blah blah blah but after that I started to really enjoy it, It felt more free once past that point.

I love it :D

Quite enjoyed the power armour bit, doesnt last long before it runs out of power and ammunition anyway.

Rest of the ranting is just way off the mark, its like you have not played more than half an hour. :)

I've played the game for 2 hours according to steam.

It kind of feels like Far Cry 3 with the Fallout Engine/world/graphics so far.

Depth removed in the places that mattered. ( dialogue, karma, skills/levelling, hardcore mode, weapons condition),
Depth added in places that are irrelevant (crafting/building).

It feels like a step back after New Vegas. It just feels, very dull. I kind of feel that if I bought Witcher 3, I'd have way more fun than with this.

You complain it's overwhelming and complicated then you say it's for the COD generation...which is it? Your post makes no sense. And your complaints about the UI...it's very, very similar to Fallout 3's, not sure why you're having problems.
