**** Official Fallout 4 Thread ****

I can't understand the negative reviews on steam thus far - half complain its "fallout 3 with another map" and the other half are nagging that its "not the same as the other games" - with the other few outraged that their 970 can't keep up.

What grates me the most though is this "its not next gen" rubbish - whats wrong with current gen?! This game looks just as good to me as Oblivion did on day 1.

Just had a look at some of the negative reviews at the top of the page and to be fair they made some valid points. i think the problem lies with steams review system, only being able to give a thumbs up or down. It's rarely that black or white and its why reviews usually have a score out of 10. Some of the reviews will have good points and bad points, but the only thing that counts is the big red thumbs down.

Well after claiming the performance was perfect earlier, I have just encountered a massive fps drop
By killing raiders inside the assembly factory
Anybody know any tweaks that can fix the framerate whilst inside? All the outdoor areas are perfect, but areas which require you to load when you go inside, particularly the one I have spoilered, tanked my fps from the 50s into the 20s for no apparent reason, I swear in most games the FPS is worse outside, yet somehow this appears to be an exception for no apparent reason.

"970 cant keep up"
Yet it can in Witcher 3 which is better looking and houses a bigger map.

980 Ti/TitanX drops into the 30s in some areas @1440p.

I also have poor performance indoors. Very odd as it's usually the other way around. I suspect it may be something to do with the overuse of fog. Haven't been to the place you mentioned, does it have fog?

I can't say I've seen any frame lag on my system so far. But then I've only played for about 5 hours.

Need to run some more tests and put some more play time into the game. :D

Played two hours last night and so far enjoyed it. However the settings don't work for me. It defaulted to 840x460, I changed it pressed ok then it just reset back to 840. In the end I had to force the resolution with that nexus mod. Any one else getting problems with settings not working?

You can choose different ones to mix and match.

Some are easier to build/integrate so that's why there are only a few being used commonly. Plus even though there are wood and metal structures some of the wood ones are actually more like timbre framed with metal sheeting.

Also anyone starting out try to play on the hardest settings you can stand for more of a challenge. Hard or preferably Very Hard makes it much more difficult to just wade in shooting.

I'm going to use the power armour sparingly too.

The main city drops you down to ~60 @ 1440p.
The gas station area has some inconsistent performance, in some places there you can go as low as 30s.

Loving this so far 8 hours in.
On an ancient i5 750 with 2x780's in SLI (dont know if SLI is working) and performance is superb, not encountered any bugs worthy of mention so far and the game feels like meeting an old friend and picking straight up where you left off.

If your glass is always half empty I guess the haters always gonna hate but me, I just wanna play and enjoy the story.

I'm absolutely loving the game tbh. not crashed once nor have I encountered any bugs or FPS drops! There were a few things from Fallout 3 and New Vegas that I would like to see in Fallout 4 but nevertheless I'm still loving it! :D

Question - is there a 'hotkey' which lets you take a Stimpack without having to go in through your Pipboy and do it via there? I'm pretty sure I did this earlier but haven't a clue what key I pressed to do it?

It'd probably be higher if it didn't have annoying bugs that break you out of the game at launch.

Tbh its pretty bad that a 2015 game doesn't come with surround support as native on game launch. Rockstar did it perfectly with GTA5, battlefield 4 had it with a few bugs(2014 but meh) Hardline has it working fine, although battlefront beta it was broken but still kinda worked and Dragon age it works perfectly.

I've played it a bit in windowed mode with 1920x1080 but after playing games in surround it just doesn't feel right :(

Luckily their are talented people out there who create the plugins to fix the issue :)

Took the plunge last night after explaining to my missus that I no one else was playing destiny as they all had FO4, so she asked why I didn't have it and I told her I didn't fancy paying £50 for it when it was only £31 on PC. She wondered why I didn't just go buy it on PC so I did even though I wasn't particularly bothered about buying or playing it yet.

It plays fine, I don't have any framerate issues at 1440p, new drivers appear sound but after 3 hours I'm a little bit like; meh. I can already feel it being a grind on finding junk and I can't really see any longevity once the main story is through. That said I'll give it a fair chance and at least 20 hours and hopefully get hooked into it.

Hopefully it picks up pace and becomes enjoyable else I might have to finally get round to finishing W3 and MGS :)

Not really happy with how this is performing on my system @ 1080p

i7 4790k @ 4.7GHz
290x @ 1140/1580
16gb ddr3 @ 2400MHz

Drops into the 30s are fairly common, and drops into the high 20s happen every now and then.

Thats with ultra but with godrays - low, and both the shadow setting on high

Tried dropping other settings down, but it doesn't really make any difference.

On the plus side, I am enjoying the game :)

0 key on keypad works for me without setting anything.
