**** Official Fallout 76 Thread ****

Yeah indeed, I am proceeding slowly through and as my wife bought me 1 yr sub to Fallout 1st as surprise (don’t get me started) I’ve been doing it in Private servers so far so as to not get griefed or distracted. And as I have literally no in game friends...(I’ve never once played on a team yet in over 300 hours) you guys are free to join me if I’m ever on in my private world now. @angillion @AWPC or anyone here really. kurtz207 is my Bethesda username.

I don’t want to join as a team or anything, or even do anything social you are free to join and just go about the DLC freely without even speaking...as you would in single player which is basically how I’m playing currently. I will say though it was nice to do some of the more rewarding events like Uranium fever last night without some moron 1 shotting everything nobody getting any loot....still wouldn’t have bought it myself though...
Sure I will add you as a friend when I am next on as joining friends game worlds (private or public) is also the fastest way to server hop when you need to do that so its all good ;)

I was playing on Bethesda launcher but thought i'd install it via Steam last night. Is it me or does it run a lot smoother on Steam now? Also, the graphics look sharper. I know they added some lighting but in general looks a lot better.

Are you saying you think it runs a lot smoother through Steam than it does through the Bethesda launcher or that it you think it runs a lot smoother now than it did before the latest update? If it's really better through Steam I might bother switching. I suppose I could waste my Atom points on something so I don't lose them all.

Hi.
Is this a good game to use as drop in drop out with mates who cant always make it?. 3 of us are playing BL2 and the division the problem is both of those games are not fun when you get out of sync and are more than a few levels behind your team.

So I was wondering if we could use fallout 76 as our backup plan when only 2 of the 3 of us are on or does this have the same issue?

Thanks people :)

Levels quickly become irrelevant in FO76. Your stats don't improve past L50, no equipment has a level requirement higher than 50 and you'll have all the perk cards you want by L100 at the latest. L50 if you plan your build beforehand and pick cards to suit it.

Past there, it's solely about equipment and convenience if you want to change builds.

But I'd say it's very probable that people who enjoy playing "BL2 and the division" won't like playing FO76. It's a different type of game. For starters, there isn't really any PvP unless you choose the Nuclear Winter (Battle Royalle) mode. There's very little multiplayer of any kind, really. FO76 is a poor mashup of SP and MP which serves both badly.

Well i didn't try it after the latest patch on Bethesda so it might be the patch but it just seems smoother on Steam and i've put my graphics on Ultra now and it is still smooth.

As Angillion states really, and also its far less about the shooting mechanics and more about how want to play the game. For me the game changes totally at a certain point, first 50-100 hours are all about story, questing and lore, once thats done its a looter shooter, character spec thing then it moves into a weird stage where people who last that long start to get different thing out of it.

There are some that love camp building, some that love trading, some (this is me) that just like walking around finding things, doing the events etc. But there aren’t any ‘large’ scale raids or missions as such. There events to join but they last maybe 10-20 mins tops. It’s for a different kind of player in my view, to compare I like BL games, their humour and content was great and varied yet absolutely hated The Division games as crouching behind walls is 90% of it the content and I find that mind numbingly boring.

Sorry if this has been mentioned already..

I’ve linked my accounts and downloaded the game through the bathesda launcher.

But not sure how I play this through steam? Do I have to add it as a none steam game? The store page for fallout still says its £35. Hmm

Have you only just bought the game? If so you wont get the Steam version.
You needed to log into before the wastelanders launch to qualify for the free Steam version its only the account linking thats been extended as far as I’m aware, if so then it may take a day or so to show up in your Steam account.

Ahh.. I bought it on launch day and played a little then left it.. Only logged in again today after seeing this offer. Oh well it looks like I missed it. Cheers

If you buy now are you saying you don't get steam version it says extended to 28th doesn't mention anything about having to have already owned Fallout 76 ?

It is still extended until 28th April so if you bought the way cheaper from 3rd party key seller Bethesda.net version you can still get the Steam version for free by linking your accounts as per an earlier post of mine in this thread!

thanks - bought it :) well :( as was going to buy at weekend at 7.99 and paid 13.69 oh well

question please - I created new Bethesda account and it already shows a Steam account linked - how do I check with what as I didn't do - it seems to have done automatically

anyone know under what criteria it auto-links please ? my usernames are different Bethesda vs Steam - only thing I can think of is its linked via my email address which is common ?

thanks

Bah! Wastelanders breaks the Better Inventory mod, which significantly improved the rather poor inventory system by allowing filtering and subcategories and by showing the combined weight of stacks and of (sub)categories. It's been abandoned by the author, so it's unlikely to be updated. Now it doesn't work and it prevents you from dropping anything. I'd got used to having a better inventory system.

Apparently it was Perk Loadout Manager that was breaking the doors and making it impossible to enter an interior cell. Odd, but the problem went away when I installed the latest version of PLM.

Interacting with the sentry bot at The Wayward amused me. Very silly.

Well Sentry bots no longer seem to drop Fusion Cores, I've killed 4 now and haven't got a single FC from any of the...can't remember reading that anywhere.

Another unmentioned change is a decrease in the accuracy of gatling guns and a change in the reticule. It's bad enough that I'm tempted to try a rifle build again. Maybe.

Also, I need to move and rebuild my camp. Even though it's not in one of the marked spots, I can't have it there. I just get the "camp can't be place, change world?" message every time, without any other player's camp being there. I hadn't blueprinted it. Maybe I'll come up with something different. I'll probably be forced to do so by the miniscule building budget anyway. Despite being an undecorated small shed, it took up almost 98% of the building budget because it had a billboard with 40 neon letters on it. I probably wouldn't have enough spare budget to build ally items. I liked having a newbie service camp, but I don't like frustrating struggling against Bethesda's crappy building system and miniscule building budget. So maybe just a platform with stuff on it.

Just finished moving mine. Mine was set ready for noobs, with free water, and all the usual crafting options, even some spare beds.
Either way, moved off into the mountains.
Have to say, I do think that it looks better now. Also found "the Deep". Won't say anymore, but definitely different.

Silly me...I was rushing through the early quests to get the newcomers innoculated. I know there isn't really a time limit, but I put a bit of roleplaying into the game. Meg, the raider boss, sent me to check on a team of hers and I found the only survivor inside the wagon of a lorry. I chose not to kill him because he asked me to leave him there and come back in a couple of days to kill him if he'd become a scorched. I've forgotten where the lorry is.

I found something else new. I was taking a stroll through The Whitespring in Fallout style, i.e. in a wearable nuclear-powered tank spraying hundreds of bullets at raging monsters. An ordinary morning. One of them dropped a Pleasant Valley Claim Ticket. Remember that protectron in the Pleasant Valley resort from way back when you did the raider cache quest? It handles item storage for the guests, so you can redeem claim tickets with it. It's been there since release, but the tickets have only dropped since the Wastelanders update. Ooooh, going to be special! So I teleported there to redeem my hard-won (searching all those corpses is hard work) ticket. What did I get?

23 pre-war money, a silver fork and a red dress

On the plus side, the game had blueprinted my camp for me so I could easily move it down the road. I don't like the lighting, though. Maybe it's just me, but the game seems darker since Wastelanders other than when outside in sunlight and I can't find effective lighting for a camp area. I gained some camp budget somehow. Must have been a bug causing my camp to use more than it should. I moved turrets around so I could reduce the number to 6. After that, I've got about 18% of the camp budget left. More than enough for an ally item. Maybe I'll build an extension for my comic collection.

I was reading an article on Forbes about Wastelanders earlier. The writer reviewed FO76 at launch, thought it was utterly crap and never played it again. They quite like it now and are playing it for fun. I think they're right - the improvements have been that good.

I really should search for that lorry. Does anyone know where it is? I vaguely recall it being south of Crater.

For sure Wastelanders is a game changer it turns 76 into Fallout 4 (almost!). Graphics are better due to the improved lighting FX & shadows casting a more natural looking hue (still no HDR on PC yet though for improved skyboxes). Only yesterday afternoon started to do the new content as it took me about 14 hours (count em!!) to redo my CAMP as I had to move it elsewhere due to The Raiders taking my old spot on a cliffside!

@Angilion
Finding I have way more CAMP budget than ever before. I was forced to scrap my entire CAMP & store everything as I could not place the blueprint anywhere. After doing this & manually redoing it piece by piece just slightly further away from where it was before found I could place 3 x Red Rocket Statues, & bought the Green Fingers bundle & could place the massive Greenhouse Dome & still have about 25% CAMP budget left. Before Wastelanders I could never ever have any large object as well as the 3 x Red Rocket Statues so they have definitely tweaked the values for everything (still overall 50 lights max though). I would suggest storing all existing items & scrapping a few then try again after blueprinting it as it seems to return wasted budget to your allowance.
