**** Official Fallout 76 Thread ****

It's pretty simple, something like this:

"I stupidly paid and/or pre-ordered this garbage product for £50"

"I don't consider myself a complete moron"

"Therefore the product must be good"

"and anybody saying otherwise is effectively calling me a moron"

"by defending the game I am also defending myself"

It really is something, and it seems to be becoming worse, more tribal. People feel far too validated their game of choice doing well and vilify people talking it down. Far from the earliest example but I can never shake that No Man's Sky release and people trying to argue black was white and the sky is green as Murray's web of lies collapsed and doubled down when presented with videos of Sean Murray talking about multiplayer, it's insane.

Can't we all just get along?

A vaguely professional company wouldn't release a game in this state.

The game has now dropped under £20 on cdkeys, it must be selling seriously poorly. I might bite where it hits a fiver on the off-chance that Bethesda actually do fix it :p

Well they didn't deny it happened, just that the guy is only a temp:

"The Bethesda Store's Support member is a temporary contract employee and not directly employed by Bethesda or Bethesda Game Studios. We apologize to the customer who took the time to reach out. The support response was incorrect and not in accordance with our conduct policy. Unfortunately, due to unavailability of materials, we had to switch to a nylon carrying case in the Fallout 76: Power Armor Edition. We hope this doesn’t prevent anyone from enjoying what we feel is one of our best collector’s editions."

Is that a genuine e-mail? I just can't see any vaguely profession company putting "We aren't planning on doing anything about it." in like that
Apparently Bethsdada mentioned or tweeted that the email wasn't directly them but a 'third party' company or something to that ends. Doesn't matter at the end of the day - they're going to take a battering from all of this regardless.

They also didn't actually change the message - they're still saying that they won't do anything about it. All they've done is be less honest about saying so and try to use the first, more honest, response as a diversion. Which makes me wonder if they were being clever enough to have planned it that way. I think it's more likely that the first response was accidental honesty, but maybe not.

What surprises me though is even on YT vids from the usual sources we've all seen re: FO76, that these very negative reviews of the game etc and vids on the ballbag debacle, is the line they take that Bethesda have just been stupid and incompetent and tone deaf with this this release. I don't think they have, they're smart people, they knew exactly what they were doing from day 1. They knew the game would suck, they kenw it was broken, they knew the canvas bag was BS, and they didn't care because they've had fans money and it's tough **** baby!

It's all planned in advance, it's not imcompetence it is simply corporate strategy. There are no real consequences to lying and cheating people out of their money, and they know it.

Those collectors editons are always overpriced, but if it's your thing, you shouldn't be cheated out of what you paid for.
Bethesda should be in full damage control mode at the moment, instead it's like they are just testing to see what they can get away with.

"Sorry we **** through your letterbox, and insulted your mother, please accept this valueless item we pulled from thin air as apology."

Could be, they do seem to be just hoping it blows over and unfortunately for all the ridicule swarming now it'll blow over in a week, gamers as a whole seem largely incapable on standing firm against things like this. ("oh it's only a bag", "If you were dumb enough to drop 200 bones on a collectors edition you were a mug so who cares?" etc)

Never bought the game, didn't like what I was looking at but is it correct that their paltry sum on apology currency doesn't even buy the virtual canvas bag?

btw:

The Next Fallout 76 Patch Will Bring Some Much-Needed Fixes. Fallout 76 is getting another big patch on December 4 that will begin trying to fix some of the game's bigger problems, Bethesda said today on Reddit.2 days ago

I lol at people buying collectors trash, just to have it remind them everyday that it fills a void in their empty life with consumerist jingoism, living vicariously through the molded remains of dead plant and animal life billions of years ago.
