do yourself a favour mate and **** it off, i've just played seasons for about 4 years now and it lets you enjoy fifa while having time for others games.
I guess it depends how new you are to it, basically I started FUT in summer 2021 because my son wanted to try it (I had this perception of it being very micro-transaction oriented which had put me off). So did like a little bit at the end of FIFA21 but there were these repeatable 85x10 upgrades which was kind of silly just recycling dozens of time to get better cards. Basically I was just learning the metagame, making silly mistakes like putting Icons into SBCs instead of buying fodder etc. Then FIFA22 waited for it to come on gamepass, expecting May but didn't land until June last year, played it a lot over the summer, my first proper go at it so it was still new, but it kinda ended pretty abruptly because FIFA23 came out. Then picked up FIFA23 in Black Friday and played since then, again it's kind of fresh to me because i've never played it this early in the cycle so it's a bit more grindy rather than just packing great cards all the time and cheap upgrade SBCs.
For sure it's a massive time sink though, I'm often playing it until 2am, and it's got that kind of 6pm 'lure' of seeing what new content has arrived. For me the new content / challenges etc does keep the game interesting making me use different cards, even if they aren't very good. For example Harit who is an 86 CAM for Marseille, I used him in the Centurion cup because of the max 4 team restriction (alongside Payet and Bailly), then again for this 2022 year in review thing where you need 3x Moroccan midfielders. Realistically I'd never have used him otherwise. Just generally as someone who grew up with FIFA being a game where you just play with set teams the card collection mechanic is quite interesting/addictive, for now at least. I think I'd get bored pretty quickly if it was just a case of playing your best XI every match.
Regarding Bale, I'll do him because he's pretty cheap, 83 and 85 squads only. Hard to get Chem links with Wales/MLS but with 90+ for Pace, Shooting, Passing, Dribbling lack of chem is less problematic.
One thing I've not really figured out yet is the FUT Champs mechanic, like when I should be playing to qualify for stuff, what playoffs/finals means etc and if it is a better use of my time (considering it's presumbly high skill opponents in the latter stages). I did the finals a couple of times but of late haven't really had the time to play it as had been grinding out Rivals/Squad Battles objectives alongside the friendly objectives.
