***Official Final Fantasy XIV Thead***

Sorry to bring this up again but is it best to d/l the client from file planet and then let the game patch itself or get the patches as well?

Played a little bit today, so far all i can say is this game is weird.

Performance is very poor for me at 1920x1080 4xAA, AO/DoF on, shadows/textures etc.. highest. Going to try again with lower settings, but i have to say the game doesn't even look very good all maxed out.

The UI is absolutely shocking. Really i don't know how to say it any other way. Everything is extremely clunky and not at all intuitive. Stupid little things like advancing dialogue, it looks like you should click the little arrow to scroll down, but no you have to hit return. It seems like every single aspect of the UI is designed for a gamepad, not mouse and keyboard.

Will give it another go tonight but this just screams PS3 game badly ported to PC. Also what's up with the instancing? You cannot move 10 feet in any direction without being warned you are leaving the instance in the starting areas of the game. I sincerely hope the rest of the game is not carved up into bite sized chunks like this.

I think the bit that you say is instanced is at the very beginning, not sure as you may have started at a different area than i did ( graindia ? ) where you need to go straight to an area to get the 1st few quests so you cant leave the area till then.

Ok, I really really wanted to like it but when the game slows down on minimum settings while playing at HD 5770; 4 GB ram; AMD Phenom II x4 955 @ 3.8GHz (nothing extraordinary but still fairly decent) something isn't right - it's almost as if SE really decided to do a straightforward port from the PS3 - which in a way explains why they recommend 12 GB ram to run it smoothly. That and the absolutely no help you get in game...I got some quest sending me somewhere and I've no idea where the heck to go as neither the quest map nor my regular map make any sense of it :(

runs fine for me
1055t + 4gig + GTX460 1gig

everything maxed out but ambient oclusion off , standard shadows and only 2x AA @ 1920x1080.

hitting 40fps most of the time, i can tell you in closed beta the game had poor performance on ATI cards it was one of the things they tried to change not long before closed beta finished.

although i think the game is terribly optimised for pc

I can run it fine with higher settings...in windowed mode. Otherwise I get choppy performance. It was a toss up between going back to WoW and starting FFXIV. Square Enix didn't impress me, so WoW it is.

i get choppy performance on a i7 860, 4gb of ram and a 4870x2 but gpu never goes above 60% (fullscreen) but on windowed mode i use 70% of 1 core and still get 40fps just as if i was using both cores, very weired optimisation.

Been playing this game for about 4-5 hours tonight. I don't mean to offend anyone who might be a FF fan when i say this, but this has to be one of the worst MMO's i have ever played.

The performance for me is very poor, and the UI and general targeting/interaction is sloppy - but all of those things i can ignore. What really seems to be the problem is that there is literally nothing to do in the game other than grind. Where are the interesting questlines etc..? I asked around in the game and read the FFXIV core forums but all anyone says is do 'levequests' or just grind randomly.

Can anyone who has been playing this game for some time explain to me what exactly most people do? It seems as though i must be missing 99% of the game somehow, but nobody so far can suggest anything else. I just don't get it at all.

EDIT: Also is it just my server or does nobody talk in this game? Even in heavily crowded areas nobody says a thing... It's slightly unsettling lol

Not overly impressed so far.

This game feels well and truly like a beta version....which it is to be fair but with the proper release in less than a month I'm getting worried.
