***Official Final Fantasy XIV Thead***

Game has been a bit disappointing but it has potential.

Really like most MMO's this is really just moving of alpha to beta. Release is the real open beta like most MMO's at launch then the fun really starts 1-2 months after release. If after 2 months I think its crap then the MMO is just garbage.

yea but ffxi was never about intresting quests or anything it was an old fashioned grind mmo where you couldnt do anything without a group and if you whiped it felt like a mike tyson punch in the face as you lost loads of exp for each death.

it doesnt look like anything has changed this time around its just final fantasy xi with better graphics, i dont think the devs want a western rpg but they arent western maybe if you japanse this is the best thing since hentai

Well your somewhat wrong, yes ffxi is mainly about grinding but to say it was never about quests or anything, take the expansions, rise of the zilart had quite a good storyline leading to sky access and beyond, then chains of promathia was amazing then all the others and the addons, it gives reasons to play and goals to aim for and they keep releasing more.

apart from the few main story quests that led to cutscenes i dont remember doing many other quests if any (excluding the level limit quests)?

all i remeber was standing in a dungeon at the same spot for hours on end while someone pulled mobs and the rest waited at whatever camping spot.

i only played the main game+ 2expansions though

The quest thing I can live with. It's only beta after all. What kills it for me is poor performance and lack of tutorials. At this day and age such things should be implemented correctly as soon as possible otherwise you're going to lose potential subscribers.

does anyone have any idea how far behind the native version we are?

with translation etc i'd imagine we are along way behind?

Only played it a day but, If i can add my worries to some I share above:

1) the mouse is laggy and I can not have faith in where my mouse ends up making everything slow.
2) Need a quicker way to change weapons (mouse makes this worse)
3) Opening, on Gridania, but the space is VERY confined, like rooms with corridors and people are competing to see who can get to the mobs first, leading to
4) a type of kill stealing
5) had a hard time finding where to buy stuff (luckily found a friendly PC who told me)
6) a guide on stuff Ie i tried chopping a tree down and was conufsed by these diagrams and choices with no explanation.

So far, if 3 and 4 are not addressed I doubt I will buy it on release. I am sure there will be solutions in release for the rest....

It does indeed feel like something in missing, does anyone know if these have been addressed, beta site is no help as a lot of it you need to log in for and they are not accepting new registrations.

In terms of how it runs, i am on 1920*1080 and high textures, standard shadows and 2AA and mines runing lovely and smooth.

Go into the main menu and select return.. few complaints about this already ont he beta forums, has been for a whole yet nothing has been done. Even FFXI had an option when you died that came up.. weird thing to take a backwards step on it seems.

Ive uninstalled the beta and wont be bothering with it again.. i also wont be preordering the game, and i dont think ill be buying it untill all the bugs and issues are ironed out, because by what i experienced its going to be a very bumpy launch..especially with that terrible excuse for a downloader

The fps is quite frankly shocking for a game that doesnt really look amazing enough to warrant the dire fps. Network lag is also really quite bad in my experience.
Cheers Greenboi.

I've played for 3 hours without any enjoyment of the game. It's terrible.

Besides the FPS issues, the combat is haphazard and unresponsive.
You often find yourself getting a "You have defeated <enemy>" message pop up before the animations have even played.
It feels like a very very very very very poorly done Phantasy Star Online with none of the goodness of MMOs since then.

Added to this the ****ing awful questing system which takes us back to the days of Everquest (Maybe even worse??) added to the pointlessly unhelpful and laborious mapping system, makes the whole process of character progression monumentally unhelpful.

I might give it another spin in a week or so to see if it's just teething issues, but I have a feeling it isn't. The game is rotten to the core and it shows.

I spoke to some people in game and apparently the game is a lot more easier to play with a gamepad as it was optimized for it, gonna get one later today hopefully.

Only thing I was told about getting a pad is its got to be same layout as PS3 2 analogues 2 buttons on left and right shoulder etc. As it being a PS3 port probably right, it feels like a console game. Also FFXI was a PS2 port as well so it all makes sense.

System performances is in the works there constantly working on it at least its not as bad as Aion, also its not as bad as alpha/beta.

ok guys i just started playing the game and need help lol, where is the black bush camp thing?!

I dont really like the map view, is there any way to move the map around when youre looking at it?

edit: nevermind I found it, arent the mobs in the early game quite strong and take long to kill for just starting out? Im level 2 and i have found myself having to run away half way through trying to kill an enemy because its stronger than me lol

Welcome to FFXIV.
The quest giver probably mentions (once) a vague direction for where the black bush camp is. Read through the conversation dialogue again.

As for the map view, it may as well not exist because it's so bloody unhelpful.
