***Official Final Fantasy XIV Thead***

Share what ? lol

I used Utorrent and found the torrent files the offical downloader uses and did it with Utorrent, then move the downloaded files into the /patch folders

Pretty much given up on this now, there is just nothing of interest to do. I've only made it to level 9 Archer, Level 10 Physical but already it's just such a shallow, repetitive game. I know people are saying they simply haven't added most of the content because they don't want everyone to see it before release - but i am not convinced of that (heard it before, see Vanguard comment). How are they going to beta test content if nobody can actually play it?

The game just feels horrendously dated and very buggy. I played in the Vanguard SoH beta - this game is almost identical in every way. Cookie cutter 'content' as far as the eye can see with game mechanics from a decade ago.

Right now this is a 3/10 game, if they can pull of a miracle patch before release it might be worth a shot, but as it stands it's absolutely terrible in almost every way. I would say the visuals are decent though.

I would never have thought it, but this actually plays better with a pad then with KB/Mouse. I know it is designed for a console, but c'mon, would a proper KB/mouse set up have been so difficult to implement.

Other than that, I'm quite enjoying it for my first beta.

They are not beta testing content, SE have their own in house testers for that. This test is to stress test the game, game servers and web servers. Currently we are doing our job well as they have not been working continuously since the OB started :D

The main problem as far as I can see is we haven't been playing the full game since the test started, they have always been with content missing. Therefore no one outside SE can comment on the status of the release client.

I am puzzled by the rating you gave, if it is 'terrible in every way', which it is not as you like the visuals, then why rate it as high as 3/10. I also disagree with you, what I can see of the game is very good, the classes are distinct with their own flavour, the gathering and crafting systems are interesting and suitably complex and there is enough promise for XIV to turn out to be a excellent game.

The main problem I have is I don't feel like leveling another character only for it to be deleted on a few weeks. Roll on the main game.

Well i will believe it when i see it is all i can say. Having heard the 'it's just beta' thing many times (like i said Vanguard...) i believe i have the right to a bit of cynicism :)

You are puzzled because you didn't read my post correctly, look again at the section you quoted :)

I will agree that the classes are distinct, but combat is severely lacking depth compared to even a game like Everquest 2 which is 5 or 6 years old now. Same thing with tradeskills and harvesting, it's all very dated. The thing is i would forgive them the performance and UI/control issues if they were really thinking outside the box and implementing a ton of new ideas, but they really aren't. Everything in the game is standard fair for a first generation MMO, let alone a game launching in 2010.

Like i said, if they pull off a miracle and the full game is packed full of really awesome questline's then that would be fantastic, i just don;t think that's going to be the case. Take a run around any of the continents for a couple of hours, there is literally nothing there. No interesting buildings, no instances nothing. Just miles and miles of repeating landmass and an incredibly small variation of enemies.

Of course YMMV, everyone's taste is different, heck there are still a fair number of people playing Vanguard. But to my tastes this game is very poor.

MIxed reviews of this game but i'm just going to give it a punt and hope all works out well. Still stuck playing WoW as there is nothing else out there that I can get into so really hoping the game offers something different that I can get into and enjoy.

This downloader is really annoying me, I've installed all the patches I can and it only has a couple more things to update from what I can gather but it keeps timing out, I just want to play the flipping game!

Ive downloaded as many patches as I could from mega upload before it locked me out me out, Now im constantly stuck at D2010.09.05.200 at 98.3%....why

I'm actually enjoying it at the moment, I'm not playing too much as I don't want to spoil the game when it's released in a couple of weeks, but it feels quite Final Fantasy-ish. Everything is a little complicated, kinda unintuitive, but I'm willing to stick it out.

Some more character customisation would be nice, though.

Just took me about 10 minutes to figure out how to mine something, then some random thing killed me because I couldnt figure out how to draw my weapon, Just some silly "Throw Rock" skill

WHen registering for open beta does it take a while between getting your service access code being registered and then being allowed to log onto the tester site to be able to download the beta client? Been waiting a while and it wont let me into it.

I had the same problem, the portal web page doesnt let you pass even though you have registered your account.

I managed to download the installer through fileplanet through links in this thread, also downloaded the 4.7gb patch file using the link in this thread.

Yeah using Fileplanet now. Thanks for that! :)

Get the patches from here - http://tehkrizz.net/downloads.asp

They come down in seconds.

Thanks for that. Will give that a go when the download is sorted. Hmmm... Did I do something wrong I couldn't implement the patches? Usng the normal SE downloader at the moment.
