***Official Final Fantasy XIV Thead***

game was running fine with no lag except when crafting with a 4890. Changed to a 470GTX in the same system and now load times in the Benchmark have doubled and the game frequently locks up for up to 1 minute when I enter new areas.

Anyone found a way to fix this or have the same issue ?

It's possible you may have some left over ATI drivers causing problems with the Nvidia ones?

I would post this in the graphics card sub-forum, better chance of finding a solution there. :)

I have no net at the moment then in Belfast so for the past week and then the next two I'm logging no game time which really annoys me as I'm loving the game. Will be back asap though!

player numbers have dropped slightly since launch. still loads playing though.

starting to enjoy lvl 30 leves in big parties, and dinged 27 weaver (trying to catch up with a couple of JPs who were level 37 last time I checked) :(

Call me petty but... "leves"? "Link-shells"?

What is the point in re-naming things that like? For some reason it annoys me immensely... but then I'm a grumpy bar steward.

Just wondered if anyone else was bugged by this?

Can't help but feel the thread is giving the impression its an awful, unpolished game.

Benchmark looked awesome but hey, obviously thats not gameplay.

Is it really bad, compared to the reasonable success FF11 had?

Explain what you mean by renamed? Leves are brand new to the game but Linkshells have been around since FF11 which has been out since 2002.

hehe i know what you mean ^^ why not just call them quests or missions!

Linkshell has been around a while but i was a bit baffled by "leve".. especially as its apparently pronounced "leave", which i found out last night.. im probs stupid for not knowing ^^

Its not that bad anymore, it was pretty shoddy on release but it is getting there with the patches... and SE have given us all an extra month of playtime which is nice :)

I think given a couple more months the game will be much much better!
Although to get the good gear etc, you need to put the hard work into crafting.. this aspect i like but i can imagine its pretty annoying for those that just like killing stuff :D

Think in the past I have made my position quite clear on the game in that I love it but after not playing in 2 weeks and logging on (in the last hour so servers have been nice and quiet) the lag was horrendous and thats putting it nicely. I was dying all the time because my commands would not go through so was just standing there getting slapped around constantly.

Logged off in a right huff :p going to give it a rest for today as im really hacked off with it now but if it isn't looking any better in the next few days when I log in, I mean looking better lagwuse, I will be really considering if I can continue playing. :(

Hopefully though I just caught the servers at a bad time.

What's the general impression of this then?

I tried FF11 and compared to WOW or any of the recently released MMOs I thought it was awful.

Can't be bothered with that debate, WoW is widely regarding as the best, if not the best MMORPG so I think it's a fair question to ask.

I like it :D

I'm not sure when you tried FFXI, the impression I get is you looked at it recently, but you have to remember FFXI is 8 years old now and it is probably unfair to compare it to the wave of WoW clones out there now.

As for the game, it is a difficult game to play. There is absolutely no hand holding, unlike most modern RPG's. To give an example, most games have some equipment that is class or level restricted, in FFXIV you have 'favoured class' and 'optimal rank', which means you can equip a level 50 armour for Gladiator on a level 1 Conjurer, but you really shouldn't :D. Looking at the game you lose a huge amount for equipping a non-favoured piece of equipment and/or equipment that is too high for your character.

How bad is this game? is it really that bad? I know pretty much all MMO's have bad launches, i was just wondering what this is like.

Is there any options for player housing at all? and do you have to 'grind' for materials like in LOTRO? If so i will buy this tomorrow

Compared with most MMOs released in the past few years, it has had a relatively painless launch for most. Still needs polish, but has plenty of potential.

No player housing at the moment, but there has been several indications of something being implemented in the future. And you can get materials through gathering, mob grinding, or levequests.
