***** Official Football Manager 13 Thread *****

I did have a player who was a newgen in last years game that had his personality described as terrible, generally unprofessional, and he was seen leaving a nightclub.

So it may still be in there somewhere, just extremely rare!

I won my next match after the surprising Nottingham Forest defeat. I had a good 1-0 win at Arsenal. They did well to stop me scoring a few more.

Back to normal in my next Champions League match where we were outclassed 2-1 by Braga.

edit//
I then lost my next match 0-1 at home to QPR with the very best team I could put out.

That's about 5 defeats in around 20 matches this season. 3 of those have been to Nottingham Forest, Braga and QPR!

Something isn't right. Going to give it a rest for a while.

Can someone check the NI team Linfield in their game? I kept seeing insanely good youth players popping up there so checked it out and it says the team value is £7.5m, top corporate facilities, extensive youth recruitment and 25k seater stadium but they don't even have a proper first team! There's like 5 grey filler players in the main team and that's it, same for U18 but with 3 or 4 excellent prospects. Don't even have a manager lol

Whats going on here, bug?

Don't think it's a bug, robmol - Linfield play at Windsor Park, the Northern Ireland national team's home venue. According to Wikipedia, they get 15% of the gate receipts from NI internationals played there as part of a rental agreement.

That would explain the "Top Corporate Facilities" and the club value.

Couldn't see any special youth players, though I'm a few years down the line in my save, so maybe they've all been sold off/progressed. From what I saw, they tended to have good physical attributes for their age, but the usual lower-league lack of technical and mental attributes.

For those struggling with signing players just stick with it - it is *very* difficult for the first few seasons in any league. Best bet are good free transfers to begin with and save your cash. The more cash you save early on the sooner you will reap the rewards, providing of course you stay in the leagues.

My most successful team to date is Huddersfield, but it took at least 10 seasons to really get reap the rewards in transfers and cash flow. My save game for them is 2035 or something ridiculous now. But I regularly win the Premiership, and most of the cups and the CL. I get anywhere between £40mil-£60 million transfer budget per season. It's a bit of a shame the financial rewards do not increase though. Seems a bit daft to still be receiving £875k for a televised match 20 years in. Exactly the same as it was in the first Premiership season.

My latest save is playing as Bury - I started off unemployed, and was offered a job playing as Welling in the Bluebet N/S leagues. I got poached by Bury after promotion. I've managed to get them into the Championship from League 2 in successive years which is great going considering I have less than £500k transfer budget and a terrible pitch/facilities. I've managed to get some cracking players for free. But now I'm really up against it. I can no longer afford my best players salaries and have all sorts of problems. Although it is looking likely I will win the Championship after my second season there and reach the Premiership I don't really have any backup plan. I just hope I receive a decent transfer budget and/or wage budget. I only have an 11000 seater stadium and 6000 season ticket holders. So it's not a huge amount to play with. In comparison, I got the Huddersfield up to 40000 before i started receiving huge budgets. So I will see what happens!

Had an awful first season at Anfield, finished 9th. Team was so inconsistent. Managed to request more time from the board at the right moments so still have my job. The team is naturally improving, so will see what the expectations and budget are for season 2 and then see if I need to spend or not. Will be good to have a proper preseason as the first seasons one consisted of Euro qualifiers.

A small update on me.

I joined Sundowns in around January, and they were 6th. I managed to go all the way up to 2nd, which means I qualify for the A CL.

In the summer transfer window I re-enforced the team a lot. It seriously became a top team, and it showed. I won the 2 initial minor trophies (the FA Cup and league Cup equivilant) and I won the league with a few games left. Best attack and one of the best defences (atm). 3 games left, some 13 points on top.

I'm now in the 2nd round of a 3rd minor cup (the FA cup equivilant again) against Kaizer Chefs. Obviously, I want to win it.

In the ACL I breezed through the preliminary round and 1st round, and now I face a very tough team in the 2nd round (ALL the teams pass through a 2 legged preliminary round, and then a 2 leg 1st round, then a 2 leg 2nd round, then 3 groups of 4, then semi final, and final). If I pass the 2nd round, I will go in the group stage.

Between the 2nd round and the groups, there is the summer transfer market (ACL runs from Feb to November). I have quite a few people leaving on a free, mostly old/bad/high wages. Saying that, I already have 2 confirmed players coming in on a free, who will add a lot to the team.

I want to try and keep a BEAST RB, whose contract will run out this summer. he wants to join a bigger club, and he is amazing.

I have a dilemma in attack though. Currantly I have 5 forwards. Fransman, Mofokeng, Nnam, Boul (call him this) and Thompson.

Fransman and Mofokeng I do not intend to sell, as they have been good for me. Nnam is on loan and he has scored 14 in 22 games. I am going to buy him for 300k. Boul was bought when i first joined, but he only joined me in Jan as he was under 18. When i got him, he had a potential * rating of 5*. When he came he had a rating of 2 1/2*. I though i would just keep him for a bit and sell him off. Turns out he has done well, with 10 goals in 11 appearances. Apart from that, there is this pretty good ST who will be going on a free this summer, who seems like he can add something to the team.

I have 4 main options

- Get them all 3.
- Get the free guy and buy Nnam and loan out Boul. He had a bit of beginner's luck.
- Keep Nnam and keep Boul. If they are doing well, why risk getting in others?
- Get the f/a and keep Boul. After all, you are saving 300k.

I'm tempted to get them all, because they will help me win the AFC. My wage budget is slowly spiraling out of control, so this will definitely not help me out!

The team is shaping out to be amazing. The wage budget, not so much!

So my star RB (Mosala) decided he wanted to leave on a free because he wants to join a bigger club. Fair enough. Not everybody wants to stay in the South African (1/2 * league) when they can play at a much higher level.

Where did he go?

BLOEM CELTIC! South African team that finished 6TH! I finished 1ST with 18pts on 2nd, and you call them a big team? Fair enough, they won the African Champions League, but they didn't even qualify to the next edition, meaning that you will stay out of it, when I have a chance to win it!

Anyway, I managed to move a few defenders around and create a solid back 4. Just as I have everything in place, one of my best (in terms of performances. 7.99 last season) gets a 4-5 month injury! WHAT! That means he will miss all of the 2nd half of the Champions League! I got in some young LB (who will be trained RB) to fill in and hope for the best.

The rest of the team is coming up well. Just need to get 1 MC and I will be done. I'll just get an old guy wqith low wages, just to fill in. There is no one I really want who is worth the money.

The squad registration for the African CL has passed, and my team isn't all done yet, so now I have to play the 2nd half of the CL with half a team! How is it fair if the registration window is 5 days after the transfer market opens?!

Lets hope for the best. My team is good enough to win imo. With a bit of luck, we can do it.

EDIT: 4 top players want to leave to join a stronger club. They have 2+ years on their contract.

Need to win the ACL as soon as possible, or else I need to re-start all the growth process. Shame it only took me 1 1/2 years.

Just started a new save as Arsenal, I've only tried mid table teams this year and failed horribly each time. Sold Diaby, Arshavin, Squillaci, Gervinho and loaned out a few youngsters. Brought in Viktor Fischer, Moritz Leitner and I might grab another striker depending on how well Podolski and Giroud do between them. Hoping to play a 4-2-3-1. :)

Things aren't getting any better for me.

Despite being top of the Premier League, I've just been beaten 1-0 by Ipswich on the FA Cup 3rd round. My team was:

De Gea, Jones, Smalling, Evans, Buttner, Powell, Fletcher, Nani, RVP, Valencia and Giggs.

It wasn't as if I was creating that many chances or unlucky either.

I hate to moan because I do generally love the game. It just seems so random and any changes I make never seem to have any effect.

We're all cheering you on Malt! :p
Cheers!

OMG :O Diaby, Arshavin, Squilaci and Gervinho left Arsenal :O

Arsenal fans love you!

Giroud is a beast on FM up front. He will do well.

- Won the next 3 games. Sit top with 12 points, 15 goals scored and 1 conceded (not bad).

Please note that for the ACL runs from Feb till 15 November, and I am September, so 2 1/2 months left.

-Fransman (my striker) got a red card and a 3 match ban, meaning he will lose 2 group games and the 1st leg of the semi final.
- Zwane (my best CB last season with a 7.99 avg. rating) got a long injury (as I said before). He still has 7wks-2 months out.
- Mdluli (strong CB) has a 7wks-2months out, due to an injury on international duty.
- Tumelo Majola (amazing CM) got a 3 month injury on international duty.
- Boulainceur got a 1 week injury.

To top this off, the registration window is closed, so I can't add players I bought after it closed. it closed 5 days after the transfer window opened.

This leaves me with:
2 goalkeepers (one is 16)
1 RBs
3 CBs
2 LBs
3 MCs
1 AMC
4 STs (incl. Fransman and Boulainceur)

Got 2 players with 1 yellow card away from a suspension! Really hope they get it for the last group game!

Thats not even enough to fill the starting 11 and the bench! Thanks FM, for making my quest 100 times harder.

Haha! :D

For some reason I can never really imagine Wenger being replaced by somebody so I started another game as Bayern, I did terribly in my pre-season games until I thumped AC Milan 3-1 and then beat Dortmund in the following match to lift the German Super Cup. Beginners luck. :p
