***** Official Football Manager 13 Thread *****

Hey guys,

Just setting up 2013 for the first time, and I want to change the colours used for the level of stats, ie I want to make high stats (up to max of 20) in red, instead of the normal green but it seems you can only change the thresholds and not the colours?

You could do this up to and including 2012? Am I missing something?

[edit] Ignore me, found it, its under a small tab in the top left :p

Right, had a few days away from the game due to the immense rage it caused me last time round.

Going as Liverpool AGAIN! Am determined to do well with them. Need to stop being tight and spend some money for a change. Can do this! Can do this!

I think Suarez his bitten his own eyes out. Cannot score at all! Selling him in January I think.

Edit - Actually, restarting a new game, and getting rid of him straight away.

I am currently in 2023.

Started my career a Wehen and moved up to win German Div 1, after the 5 years I spent there I moved to Juventus and found it very dull in the Italian league, I left them at the end of the season after winning the league

I then moved to tottenham and spent 2 seasons there, winning the league and champions league.

I again moved to Real Madrid and again found it dull after spending a season there.

I decided to have a little more of a challenge then and took on the job at OM who were 6th from bottom when I took the reigns mid season, managed to finish in a euro spot and now im contending for 1st in my second season with them.

LMAO. Loving it!

Hey, I'm also noticing a genuine lack of good regens. I'm 2024 in my current save and am seriously struggling to find new players of a quality worthy of future potential. I can find plenty of 3-4 stars who turn out okay, but nothing like I used to find! I've managed to find a couple of 15 year olds from PSG who are 4.5/5 star potential, but they are going to need a LOT of development. Plus they are expensive. £7 million a pop!

I'm using the largest database now too, and still struggle to find talent. 28 scouts! Yikes.

Edit: I've also got the best training facilities and exceptional junior recruitment/training. I've got one home grown worthy of future investment out of my entire youth squad!

Ok, that game has gone as well now. 5 games, 5 loses. Bought in some great players, I know they have to gel, but to be getting thumped 5-0 and more by Spurs, MC Midtyland, even Southampton score 5 past me!

I am going to go about my day, and come back to this later. Focusing on defenders, defensive midfielders, more defenders, and then some more defenders. Possibly play 3 in goal. Build a wall in the goal out of real bricks. Just something! THIS IS RIDICULOUS!!!!!!!!!

It's crappy when it goes like that. I find that one loss seems to effect the players far more than it should - especially if you get thumped 5 -0 or something. The players do not bounce back like I'd expect them to. Only thing you can do is give them a team talk and see what their reactions are, or focus on a completely different tactic. But remember that changing tactics during a season takes AGES to master. Or reload the game and win it ;)

Hey out of the problems with regens now, I look for one one type who appear to be the stuff of legends. The boys from Brazil. For me, they are dirt cheap and highly adaptive. I've just bought this one striker, who looks incredible for an 18 year old. He has several of his stats already at 18 and he should improve lots. He cost me £250k and wanted just £400 per week! This is premier league stuff too.

I also got a left winger a few seasons back who wasn't particularly good at the time but I had a feeling about him. Anyway, I got him on a free and he has turned out incredible. He has gone from a 2 star to nearly a 5 star in several seasons and is probably one of the best players in my club. I've also got a mature striker from Brazil, and now a full back who is 19 and 5 star, so I seem to be having a lot of luck with South America. But there is very little from Europe.

It helps massively if you prepare your players ahead of the game through the use of media answers like "We have to be realistic, it's going to be tough / I still consider us long shots" etc.

They take a small morale hit at the time, but they don't suffer a catastrophic morale collapse afterwards.

My plucky little Bala team drew Man Utd in the Europa qualifiers this season, with the first leg at Old Trafford. We got mauled 6-0, but because I'd managed their expectations beforehand, the players still had Good/Very Good morale for the lost-cause second-leg [which we lost 1-2 - a pretty good result, I thought, considering the gulf in class]. As a result - and more importantly - we didn't suffer any loss of form in the league [we're at the "The board expect you to win the league" level of stature, so this is vital to me keeping my parking space :D]

As I've said before, this is almost as much a game of morale-management as it is a game of tactics and transfers.

In my game a lot of the decent generated players are coming from Uruguay, I have 2 of them as my strikeforce at the minute and between them hold the top and second place in ligue 1 goals scored at Christmas.

Guys,

On previous versions of FM, when I selected TV camera view for watching games and replays, it slowed and showed the lines across the screen for offsides, to show where the forward was and also the last defender but on FM13 it doesn't show any of this?

Also is TV view supposed to offer anything else, as it just looks like a stationary view, no other fancy things? Is this correct?

Thanks :)

Ok, so just loading up a new game now. Will once again go for Liverpool, I WILL succeed! From my past few goes, I know that I need to focus on defensive play to start with until the team really starts to gel. 1-0 wins all the way will be fine!

Playing 4-1-4-1, with the striker set as a Poacher. He's an Argentinian wunderkid (dribbling 16, finishing 15, pace 15, composure 15, determination 20 etc).

Yet if he has a break on against two CDs from half way, he heads towards the side lines and eventually stops, turns away from goal and passes backwards. So annoying - have I got him set wrong? I want him driving into the box, make the defenders try to stay with him.

Roaming: No
Creative Freedom: less than he's currently set at
Forward Runs: Often

PPMs: Runs With Ball Through Centre seems the obvious one, along with Run With Ball More Often. If he's got "Runs Down Left/Right" or even "Hugs Touchline" then unlearn those.

Team Philosophy: less fluid than it's currently set at.

Shout: Run At Defence

Some or all of those should help.

Another thing to point out: if you're playing a more traditional/flat 4-1-4-1, then a Poacher is just going to be isolated [and easy pickings for 2 CDs]. Consider making him a Complete Forward, DLF or Trequartista so that he can hold up the ball and lay-off to attacking midfielders - assuming he's got the Strength or Passing attributes. If not, I doubt you're going to get the best out of him in that formation.

Cheers :)

Passing on my wonderkid is 14, strength 15, anticipation 16, acceleration 14. He's rated 4* as a DLF (plus AF and P) so will try DLF next match.

Have asked my attack coach (some bloke called Thierry Henry) to get him started on Runs with ball through centre and will follow up with beat offside.

Looks like he'll be good enough for a DLF role, then aye :)

A lone DLF may not seem to be immediately intuitive in a lone-striker formation - "hey, be a goal threat all the time, sonny jim!" - but it's a team game.

Even though my personal philosophy is that lone-striker formations simply don't work as well a strike partnership, whenever I've found myself down to 10 men, then a 4-4-1 with a DLF has snatched me more points than it's lost [there are also shouts to factor in, of course - Get Ball Forward, Play Narrower etc].

I ended up finishing 3rd after getting my old Man Utd job back.

I've bought a few new youngsters including Martyn Cunningham, Eden Bazilepo and Beniamino Strukelj. What would you do with these 3 considering they're only 14,15 and 17? Shall I just play them in the Under 18 league?

Also bought Marco Verratti seeing as Carrick just left on a free.

Its random for me. Sometimes it comes, sometimes no

Was doing ok with Liverpool, then after a few games, with good morale, lets just stop playing, and down down down we go, oooo relegation zone how are you!

Quit that, just started a game up with Norwich as I was shouting I COULD DO BETTER WITH NORWICH!!!!

Just beat Chelsea 3-0 first game, now Sunderland 3-1, playing a 4-4-2.

What the HELL is going on with this game!!!

I've recently changed to a 4-1-4-1 set up, but i found that using an AF didn't work as well as a poacher.

I've got 2 attacking wingers, 1 attacking advanced playmaker and 1 support CM across the midfield and one supporting deep playmaker in the DM position.

So far this season i'm 19 game into the Prem season, 1 point off the top but only conceded 7 goals in 19 games, i'd be well clear without 4 goalless draws, but games when i do score i tend to get 3 or 4 so i need to work out which teams are nullifying the attacking threat of the 4141 and make a tweak for those occasions.
