***** Official Football Manager 13 Thread *****

Hmmmmmmm. Not sure if I want to believe you or not.

Just use autosave?

If it crashes at the same point each time, then you don't deserve to be in this thread.
I said fifa manager :p
on the 2 careers I tried the first year was fine , a few months into the second season it just started crashing all the time... guess the database gets all bugged or something and it's EA so deal with it.....

Been playing this game all day with 0 crashes but I suck at it I can't get my attackers to score goals know matter what formations I try.
It doesn't matter what individual orders or touchline shout thingies I use

they get the shots and opportunities but just squander them....

Try downloading Modern Warfare. It's one of the best 4-4-2s I've seen in the game, and I use it to base most of my own formations from.

Works best with fast strikers (I guess FM always has) with your best striker in the left attacking forward role.

Also keep in mind not to keep changing formations. Make sure the team is trained in one or two formations (match day preparation) and try not to deviate and the results will come.

Ah. Since its a Football manager thread, I thought you were speaking about that :P

Why would anyone play an inferior version of the game? :p

because I like upgrading all the facilities and the stadium , doing the sponsoring negotiations etc.

something this game doesn't offer.

I'm not a fan of football but I have fond memories of playing all the manager games back in the 80's and 90's and fifa manager seemed most like the old ones that let you have full control over the club.

hehe yeah.. It's because you are a 'small' club in the grand scheme of things. You will need to finish at least mid place in order to convince them to expand. If you do grab a firm foothold then things like that become a lot easier. Plus you will win yourself £10-£15 million which helps significantly. But with your transfer budget you will probably struggle for the first season or two. But time will tell ;)

Actuallly if I recall, as Huddersfield my first season in the PL earnt me £10 million transfer budget. So roughly the same as yourself.

The problem is I can't really see any players that will improve my team, well without blowing it all on one player anyway.

So I have started the season with the same team that got me through the play offs.

However I signed a few young players on free transfer which I have loaned out.

I was using a modified version of this in both my premiership saves and it does indeed work. I don't really understand how or why it beats my other tactics. I can't get it to work all that well with my SPL team however, but that might be because I am short of two decent wingmu 6ft 7 striker was scoring in excess of 60 goals per season using that.

yea I looked at the comments and it seems someone made a better version
http://www.fm-base.co.uk/forum/downloads.php?do=file&id=7587 (if anyone grabs it make sure you grab the tactic file at the very bottom of the page it's updated with winger instructions)

I've been doing it on barnet since the start of the season and I'm at mid table so far easily avoiding relegation.

My team are finely getting familar with the formation , I think the tempo was a major issue for such a crappy football club but they seem to be adjusting after about 16 games!

So I finally finished exams, so I can play FM again.

AVANTI NAPOLI!!!

Also, I have a question. I started using 2 monitors now. I want to run FM on one, and Chrome on the other. I have FM running in full screen, but when I go to chrome, it minimizes so I can't see what is happening. Is there a way to leave it on my screen?

When i put it in windowed mode, each time I pressed continue, it turned to 'Not Responding' It was very unstable, and started becoming unresponsive whenever I minimise.

I've just found a few things out. Playing as Kilmarnock, I managed to get into the group stages of the Champions League lol.. God knows how, but I've been awared £8 million for my troubles - all my cashflow problems instantly wiped out :D

I've found out a bit about loaning. Don't loan our your best players - keep them at home and train them hard. Add PPM and heavy workloads, BUT importantly, make sure you have a reserve league. This way they will improve in leaps and bounds. If you lend them out they will not train as quicky and you can't guarantee how much game time they get. You can certainly lend out your second rate players but keep the pick of the bunch in your reserves squad or youth team. I was always keen to loan them out thinking first team experience would be essential, but until the players are 19/20 it's just not worth it.

IL NAPOLI E IN VANTAGGIO

HANNA SEGNATO PAJEOVIC, VLACHOS E NASTASIC! AVANTI NAPOLI!

:D :D

Was playing Roma (1st in the league, 6 pts above me) and I beat them 3-0 lol. After the 65th minute, and I was doing subs. The game decided that it was enough, and the ref blew the whistle for the last time. Not sure where the remaining 25 mins went lol. Will upload a pic when I get it.

Won all my games till now, all with at least 3 goals scored. i am using one of the 4-4-2 tactics posted above. Splashed the cash on a CM for 13.75M, who is pretty good. Got a 5* LB 29 yr old, for 3.2M, now he is worth 10M, as that was his release clause. he played in Africa all his life!?!

Seriously amazing player :P Best in the team. His surname is Messi LOL

Any tips for beginners of FM games? FM2013 is my first ever football manager game :p so any ideas what to start with? i.e like when i start a club what procedures do you guys go with first?

Key CM attributes

key defender attributes

key forward attributes

EDIT: the higher the determination for any player the better

take your time, build up good backroom staff and hunt for bargains. Try and weave creative players and players with a good first touch in there too ('spesh for wingers).

Scouts give an indication of player transfer cost, too.

Depends on the type of challenge you want but if you want to learn the basics, start with a low league team and throw yourself in at the deep end. You will learn everything you need here and it's a lot of fun along the way.

ps. Don't get sacked :D

Some key tips I have learnt along the way:

* Focus on two key tactics, one defending and one attacking, and stick to them. Learn them cohesively pre-season. Use one formation if possible as this will best suit your players.

* Find quality free transfers - don't splash the cash on any player in the low leagues unless absolutely vital. You won't have the money.

* Focus on your finances. If you get a transfer budget, convert it to wages and focus on free transfers (as above).

* Get the best back room team you can afford.

* Upgrade your training facilities as soon as feasible.

* Train your players in club

There are loads of tips for beginners, trawl through this thread's last few pages and you will find plenty. If you want to know anything specific fire away - there are some quality players here ;)

f you do as above and start with a low league team then
Talk to your board and get them to affiliate with a higher league club that will loan you their players needing match experience I've got some of my best barnet players this way

First things first. Do you have a wife or girlfriend? If so, say goodbye to them.

OK, now you're ready to start.

Yes! Good advice. Get a parent club for high quality loans. I've had one guy over 3 seasons now, loaned to me from Totenham. He has been a quality player, but I could never afford him full-time :(

Plus parents pay you a decent fee ;)

Don't loan Birmingham City players. They will all come with diseases and will be massively jealous of their rivals Villa.

lol I survived relegation with Barnet unlike in real life and half my team left me anyway even though I did better than was expected of the team :(

leaving me with a pathetic team lol.....

took a risk and reduced my wage budget from 25k to 21k to free up some money and decided to risk it all on a goal scorer :D (antonio german some 21year old valued at 240k highest scorer in the league so far by 2 goals)

I've already got about half the point's I managed last season and I'm only 11 games in :O

I'll never get promoted unless this club starts earning money though I've been losing about 100k a month since I took control of them last season

Not bad for 3.4M if you ask me (release clause)
