***** Official Football Manager 13 Thread *****

Ok I finished 11th with Eastborne Boro in my first season in the Premier League.

I also got to the semi final of the FA cup.

My new year finances:

My new signings:

Free transfer:

Another free transfer, quite happy with this one:

Cost £3.6m, I agreed it a while ago, I was not sure if I should sign him with my other two signings being central defenders:

My big signing, my scouts with 20 JP said he was 5* potential, there were also some big clubs after him. Cost me a £13m:

I could still do with a better right back and maybe a left winger.

Finally my board room page:

I think I would be happy to just finish mid table again, we shall see :)

So inconsistent it does my head in. I've been giving away penalties and getting too many red cards.

So frustrating. I can beat league leaders Roma 4-2, but I only draw 1-1 to 19th place Juve Stabia. So annoying.

Also, I've been having SO many injuries. My cover CB got 4-5 months in the begining of the season, a CM has 5-6 months, now my AMC got 4-5 months injury! FOR ****S SAKE!

Need to buy big in Jan to challenge for the title. Already got my eyes on a RB/LB, and sell a few players.

That's fantastic with Eastborne up there my friend. Love it when you see small fry in the big leagues. What a result eh?

I'm doing really quite well in the SPL but my best players want to leave me for bigger clubs :( I bought a young striker for £875k which was a HUGE amount of money for my cash strapped team. Now 2 seasons in he wants to move on and I can't do anything to keep him :( It's only a matter of time before I lose others - my director can't keep them happy for some reason, as a lot of my key players are rejecting their contracts.

Thanks and yes it is the 3rd football manager I have attempted it on, finally done it :D

Unlike some people I don't think it is the end of the world selling your best player.

This is what happened to me:

I was lucky to find him in the Blue Square Premier and lucky that he developed into a good player with my rubbish facilities.

Then I could not keep him, it was a massive offer and he wanted to go so I said yes.

I then managed to invest the money into more players, some good, some turned out bad. But overall I ended up better off. I think at the time selling him funded a small stadium expansion too :)

and after he left he scored a handful of goals in a good amount of appearances :p

Okay, just to shed some light on the restructure of the team, here is some screen shots of my current squad, and the transfers over the summer.

I hope you will all agree the squad is looking a lot stronger now, especially with some of the additions. Hoping to win the league this season.

So form has dramatically improved. Can't remember the last time I have lost tbh.

Although injuries are still VERY persistent. Got some 3 month injuries still.

I'm getting quite a few good players on frees. Their wages are IMMENSE, but I aim to win the Champions League next year with these players.

I present to you

KYLE TAYLOR (had him at United, for 50M) with a 170k/w wage :o

DARREN TAYLOR with a 100k/w wage

PONTUS LINDGREN with a 70k/w wage
PontusLindgren_OverviewAttributes_zps97ddd529.png

Pending:

CHI MINGHAO with a ~50k/w wage (although I doubt I will get him as there are quite a few big clubs who want him)

SANTIAGO CASTIGLIONE with a 100k/w wage (same as above)
SantiagoCastiglione_OverviewAttributes_zps6e090b33.png

I am losing 2 good players on a free. None of them have agreed transfers, but they want very high wages. one guy (ST, got him on a free) wants a raise from 65k/w to 120k/w with a raise to 140k/w if he gets 1 international appearence. Another guy, who plays DMC, wants a raise from 57k/w to some 90k/w, and he is 31 :o:eek:

If they don't agree transfers, I will extend their contracts 1 month before they expire, then sell them and get some moneyyyyyyyyyyyy.

EDIT: Managed to get the Chinese guy (raising his wage from 40k/w to 77k/w :o), but Catiglione is still pending. Apart from that, I got 2 youngsters with 5* potential, who I may loan out.

I got an offer from a club in USA, who finished 3rd, so technically i can play in their Champions league. I can't really leave these top players behind though can I?

Took the leap! Went to the USA!

SEATTLE SOUNDERS!

If it become ****, I created an alternate save called NAPOLI CAMPIONE D'EUROPA (because we all know it will happen ;)) so I can go back.

COME ON SOUNDERS!

Now I remember why I haven't bought a Football Manager game for the last 5+ years....

Thought I'd try FM2013 so gave the demo a go..... started as Chelsea to give me an idea of the gameplay!

Pre-season games against Valencia, Inter, and a few Turkish clubs and won them all scoring freely and even beat Man City 3-0 in the Community Shield! :D

Season starts, nil-nil against Wigan at home - thought, oh well, it's only the first game, things will pick up!

Then played Atletico Madrid in the Super Cup and won 3-0! Get in, this will be great! :)

Then proceeded to lose 6 games on the bounce against Villa, Hull (in the cup), Celtic (CL), Southampton, Sunderland and QPR.

I must have hit the post/bar at least twice in every game and lost ranging from 2-0 to 7-1 (the only goal I scored during this run!) against Celtic!

Added to which the transfer system appears to be broken - the values listed in-game bear absolutely no resemblance to the actual transfer cost - tried to buy Jagielka from Everton, listed as being worth £6.7m - Everton won't settle for less that £29.5m!?!?!?!? Why even bother with the listed value????

Gutted as I grew up on Football Manager and Champ Manager but this version just seems to suck every ounce of fun out of it!!! :(

I would love it if the Devs read this or even cared anymore, this is exactly what happens when you sell out to a bigger company, GREED has ruined what used to be almost perfection now it is awful and completely broken but luckily for them there is no competition.

Okay there could be a number of things going on here. But let me address this business with the transfers. They are not broken - it's just a very complex process. It much depends on the team trying to buy/sell. First of all, do you have a relationship with the team and player? Have you tried talking to the press? Does their manager rate you? Sometimes talking to the media helps as does admiration if the player is world class. Remember you are one of the biggest teams in the world of football and the transfer price is a rough guide to what would be expected - if any top team approaches one of your star players you are going to want to maximise profit. The same will be said with his wages. Even if you do manage to buy a player, they know you are a rich club and their agent will want the best possible deal. This is very realistic in my opinion.

When I played as Bury I got them into the Premiership - for the first few seasons it was great. I could buy and sell with relative ease. But after I started winning things in the transfer market suddenly got a LOT harder. Players who were valued at £30 million would only sell for double, and all of my player wages went through the roof. This is what happens when you are a successful team. You make a rod for your own back, BUT, if you are clever and careful, you will be able to manage it.

If you start at a much lower level you will learn how all this works in game - you can build a base from the bottom up.

As for the winning and losing streak it does seem a bit problematic to me. You really have to monitor team morale - if you lose a game or two the team takes a massive hit, and you will find it difficult to bounce back. You need to perfect team talks, and more importantly, when to have them. Having a team talk at the wrong time can actually negate any worth of having them at all.
