***** Official Football Manager 13 Thread *****

Once I got into it I found 2013 a hell of a lot better than previous versions. You can't just steam roll leagues using the same uber tactic every match anymore. Other teams will react to how you play so you must switch it up more, counter specific threats, exploit weaknesses etc. As said above teamtalks can have a huge effect, if you get it wrong you'll know about it. In general it seems much more realistic, of course you'll get the odd strange or frustrating result but that's football no one can win 100% of everything!

With transfers, I believe the market value is calculated by looking at similar players (or at least it used to be). The 6.7m for Jagielka doesnt take into account that he is their captain, long term loyal player, high influence/experience in squad etc, it's purely based on it stats and and form compared to other players.

First of all, thanks for the replies!

My post was most definitely a knee-jerk reaction to such an abysmal run that I just couldn't seem to do anything about!

I appreciate the transfer situation and I now know that I need to do more in the way of researching and relationships before just lumping in and buying a random player, especially as I'm considered a big, rich club!

I also appreciate that a slump in terms of result can be difficult to shake but surely that should be the same in terms of a winning mentality should carry through into the next game also - which is why it was so frustrating to have had such a successful pre-season, Community Shield and Super Cup, to suddenly find myself with 1 point from a possible 15, and no disrespect to Wigan, Villa, Southampton, Sunderland and QPR, it wasn't exactly what I would consider a tough start to the season!

The game that really hammered it home was the 7-1 annihilation at home against Celtic - they were 6-0 up by half time and there simply wasn't anything I could do about it!?!?!

I know it is a fundamental part of football that anyone can beat anyone else on any given day, which in my opinion, makes "realism" not necessarily the best thing in a game that is supposed to be fun to play!

:(

IMO morale has to large an effect.

Maybe in the top leagues it should be like it is now but in the bottom leagues where teams are used to losing etc the players should be less effected.
It's ridiculous how bad a team with low morale plays compared to a team with "good" morale

For example

10th in the league with barnet ,performing above expectations/

players morale drops uber low because we lose a match never mind I am miles above where we should be in the god damn league.
how come league placement seems to have no effect? I get the idea I could be first in the league by 20 points , lose 2 games and suddenly the morale is very low and I would start losing vs teams I should be able to thrash.

In real life I'm sure barnet's morale would be sky high if they were sitting 10th in the league.... instead of relegated like in real life

Took the leap! Went to the USA!

SEATTLE SOUNDERS!

If it become ****, I created an alternate save called NAPOLI CAMPIONE D'EUROPA (because we all know it will happen ;)) so I can go back.

COME ON SOUNDERS!

 lucky! I have one more season of Bishops Stortford on my contract before I can leave and find a new team to make amazing (mostly as doing the England job didn't look fun)

LUCKY?? THESE RULES ARE BLOODY COMPLICATED! I'm just signing people, hopefully I don't get caught out by any rules.

it says maximum 6 (or whatever) internationals. I have registered well over that, and it doesn't block me.

MLS is quirky, internationals refers to players who haven't been in the mls for a while/not through the academy system, so you can get some brazilian guys in on youth contracts that don't count as int and if they go pro with the mls first they then don't count as international (something like that).

It was a lot worse on FM11 as the squad selection page wasn't as informative as the last 2 which now actually tells you who is and isn't eligible before registration day ;)

Anyway the aim of the squad is to actually build a reasonable sized one of mostly alright players on skill level appropriate contracts and trying to get lucky with an amazing designated player or two.

I got COMPLETELY ****ed by the rules. It was like playing Hockey or Cricket, where i had no idea what I have to do.

I'll just revert back to Napoli, and wait until some Mexican team sacks their manager. At least they play real football there.

HAHA! Owww :(

I found the were fun last year, though competing for the champions league in America is hard from the mls, mexico has one or two great teams that make the whole event a lot simpler (and how I ended up managing in Belgium after that frustration)

Just won the premier league with Liverpool in the second season (4th in the first).

Luckily I won it in the second to last game as I got hammered 4-1 by Southampton in the last.

Overall I was W28 D8 L7 and finished 3 points ahead of Man City (who won it the year before).

I have signed Lloris from Spurs for 15M so he will be my second 'proper' signing after Strootman the year before.

Got knocked out in the 4th round of the FA Cup by Ipswich
Got knocked out of the Semi-Final of the Mickey Mouse cup by Chelsea (something silly like 7-1 on agg)
Didn't get past the group stage in the Euro Cup and got knocked out by Napoli in the Quarters (I think) of the Europa Cup - I did knock out Spurs on the way at least. :)

Couple of questions...
Is there a way to set it so no "Senior" players play in the reserve? It just comes up with "first 11" "unused players" etc?

Edit: I will have 60M to spend - just been shown a 22 year old called Isco - they reckon it will cost 35M to get him... He looks a good replacement for Gerrard/Shelvey and will be useful on the wings as cover?

Isco is awesome. Reminds me a lot of a younger Iniesta. Can usually get him for quite a bit less than £35m. Just be patient, unsettle him by praising and declaring interest. Malaga, with all due respect are not a massive club, so it isn't that hard to unsettle him.

And, in staff responsibilities, go to the reserves tab, and you can set 'Ask you which first team players are available for reserves'.

Got relegated to Championship.
I've improved my team massively and my team's getting destroyed

Also, had a thought, the results to some degree must already be pre determined, if it's a game that's calculating as it goes, how can you possibly speed up the play? Given just how fast you can make it, it has to predetermined at the start.

A lot of it is probably calculated before the start but there must be some 'in-game' code that accounts for x chance of getting yellow cards, x chance of getting injured etc.

What team were you playing as?

[...]No matter how many goals I go up, they'll always equalise... 3-0 up, draw 3-3... 3-0 up, lose 4-3...
Could be a number of factors: low fitness and/or low concentration. You could also be playing a very fluid, high-tempo attacking formation and tactic - judging by your starts I'd say you are - but it's too demanding a tactic for your players for the full match.

Do you keep the same tactics for the full 90 or do you switch to something more defensive/containing after building up your lead?

Played vs Fiorentina, and it was glitched so bad.

First goal went in finr, then it registered the 2nd goal some 10 minutes later, then it gave me a free goal (by Carlinhos), then Carlinhos scored, but it got attributed to Toloy (who was on the other side of the pitch) and it also said it was scored 10 mins after it was actually scored, and finally in the 90th minute it gave them another goal (which never happened)

Not sure what happened there. In the overview windows, it showed 3-2, but in the time line at the bottom, there were only 3 goals scored, and even if I review the times the goals were 'scored' I see nothing.

Wow! In all my hours in the game I have never seen anything like that. It's actually quite funny :D Was the ref drunk?

if that were true people would put there best players on and then sub them after 1 minute for any old cap player to keep the good players fitness up

maybe check your cpu usage during a match , then speed up the match and see how much the cpu usage jumps

even if you don't show high lights etc you still see the commentary at the bottom it must be processed in almost real time

I've had Malts glitch, thankfully it was one game after a save so I quit and replayed it, mostly as it made no sense in the post game thingy.

Most annoying glitch I have found is cb's don't get a straight red for hacking someone down who's clean through on goal
