***** Official Football Manager 13 Thread *****

Managing some team called Guizhou Renha Guojumatai(quite a mouthful) in the Chinese league which I didn't even know existed :p

They are currently 6th and have a stadium with a 51,000 capacity

The league is already 14 games in as my game started in June but this could be intersting.

You should get quite a bit of money from the tickets then.

Good luck.

EDIT: Yes. Very slow. Very very very very very slow. But now I cut it down to some 8 leagues, as I don't need the rest. But hey, I can live with it.

Don't you guys find it slow with so many leagues?
I find it slow enough with just the english leagues and I don't have a slow cpu

Yes I have only 25k players and game speed 5 stars, but it takes long enough already! 100k... don't think I could ever do that!

Also is that a different skin you're using or something Malteser?

I have around 75k player atm and it doesn't seem too bad although I suspect its going to take forever when simulating games.

Okay cheers :)

Starting to get the hang of this a bit more, but when I look for transfers barely any players pop up, my scouts must be crap :D

You started the pentagon challenge as well?

Would be a good idea if people set up their 'story' threads, and its not all stuck in one thread, so we can follow people better. I'm definitely tempted, but I know I don't have the time to make very detailed posts frequently, as next year I will be in uni.

Go on search for transfer listed players, and then remove unrealistic targets. You will pretty much only get Chinese players, a few Koreans, and maybe a few Argentinian players.

LOOK AT THE REGISTRATION RULES FOR EACH LEAGUE, as you can easily get caught out.

Its not easy to work your way up, but 2 good seasons, and some luck, can really propel you to the top.

For me, after a few unsuccessful seasons, I joined MVV, and I got promoted in my first full season (was on fire in the second half of the season, finished 5th). Then in the next, I finished like 7th in the league, just missing out on Europa League. In January of the following season, I went to Kayserispor, where I won the Turkish Cup (bit lucky tbh) then in the Summer, Galatasaray 9who had won the league some 4 years in a row) took me. From then on, I was a top manager, as trophies started coming in easy.

I was lucky with MVV tbh. If it wasn't for that promotion and successive good season, I would probably still be a lower league manager.

Small tip. Check the reputation of the league you are going to manage in, and the reputation of the club. The higher they are, the more famous you will become.

Oops nope, I'm not doing the Pentagon challenge yet! I can barely manage my team :p Unfortunately it's the middle of exam period as well at the moment so it wouldn't be too wise, then again it's not too wise playing any FM at this time!

I was wondering, does it make a difference which mode you watch games in? (Commentary.Key.Full etc)? What modes do you guys use?

You see, this shows how mixed up I am in this thread!

Tottenham! Not a bad start. Still, when you search for transfers, add a transfer status -> transfer listed filter, and tick filter unrealistic targets. It would be wise to sort by price, from high to low. If you want a specific position, add that filter too.

During non-transfer periods, you won;t find many transfer listed players. You will find most as soon as the transfer window opens, or as soon as the season ends.

I have quite a bit of experience with FM, so I kinds prefer looking for players myself, rather than assign scouts. Scouts help me find mainly youths, and get a second impression of players. Find as many 20/20 (its a term us FM players use for Staff Members with 20 rating in judging potential ability and 20 rating in judging current ability) scouts as you can, and assign them to different parts of the world. If they have a knowledge of they country/region beforehand, its even better.

You can see who is available for loan, and at times, you find some great youths. Top teams are willing to loan them out, and you can get them on loan, and add a future fee. Its quite a good way to find some youth players (although most of the time they will be expensive).

One small tip. On the 31st of December, CHECK FOR FREE AGENTS. Filter by contract expiring in 6 months, and you can find some real gems on a free. If you look up, you can see some of the quality players I will be getting on a free.

Yeah, don;t play during exams. I stopped during mine, then re started when I finished. I could play other games like FIFA, as they aren't half as addicting. But FM is just TOO addicting.

Then they say drugs are addicting. Pfft, try the real thing, pussies! (Is that considered a bad word? :o)

:D:p

I'm in on this challenge, creating the database as we speak :) It doesn't take that long to load between matches for me, only time it takes forever is when I'm unemployed

Haha :D

Thanks for the tips I'll keep them in mind and try to get some good 'un in! Not doing too bad pre-season with a 7-2 win and beating Real Madrid 2-0... Just had the first non-win though, 2-1 loss against Hull :o :p

That's what I use, gets annoying for me watching them miss good chances on Extended etc :p

How do I improve the team's Mentality/Formation in the Tactic familiarity thing? I have them training tactics a lot but they don't seem to be moving, while the rest of the bars in there are 100%

Does anyone play this on a SSD? I currently have it on a normal hard drive but was wondering whether it's worth putting it on my SSD especially as I have quite a few leagues selected

At the start of the pre-season you control training. Make sure you have team cohesion and tactics only set. Make sure your training facilities are up to date and make sure you have as many coaches as possible. Coaches are really important as they will allow your players to train faster in PPM and cohesiveness. The better the coach, the better the training. In a 4 week period I can have my tactics and formations fully fluid and coherent - playing as Kilmarnock. This is possible because I have invested in as many coaches as possible and have good training facilities. The backroom is quite often overlooked - it is VITALLY important in a successful squad.

I did have it on my SSD and also had it installed on a 7200rpm drive. To be honest, I could see the difference, but I'm not sure how much that is down to the SSD or the spec of the two machines which were completely different.
