FM is making me angry how long does it take Canada to dish out passports?!?!!?!

I have 2 players who have been here 3 years and are ready to not take up my int slots, had to give away a decent winger just to make space for the worlds best next big thing striker and it still wont hurry up!!! :mad:

I have one or two players I am dying to sign up as well...

Two oddities:-

I purchased a Brazilian youth (who incidentally has turned into something magnificent). I had to send him away for 3 years it said, to get his Bulgarian nationality. So I did. After 2 seasons away however I could play him. So he has 2 years in Bulgaria and not the stated 3. That confused me.

Secondly, scouting (once again). If you go into the scouting section and check knowledge I have 66% world knowledge with 29 scouts. But this seems to randomly go up and down. Is this the case with everyone else? One day my knowledge of South America is say 80% and one day it is a lot less. That doesn't make any sense to me either.
 
No idea about the nationality one (twiddling my thumbs for canada to pull their finger out on this front as there's a BEAST I want to sign as a designated player)

Scouting though is always going to be dynamic as theres no way to be ahead of the players spawned... So your scouting is always going to muck about a lot. Wouldn't worry half the time you see the players you need to see anyway.
 
Do you find your scouts keep finding the same players? Obviously a player in the shortlist will likely improve over time but my scouts keep on finding the same ones. Not many new ones now, and no 5 stars as I have become a much larger club.
 
Yeah a bit, sometimes its just a hint to buy some players (had a kid appear across 2 clubs over about 5 years who I just had to buy in the end as he looks too good) and sometimes it's just scouts getting too stagnant.

You can send different scouts to double check or mix it up but there are limits to the scouting ability from foreign scouts (just like real life really)
 
Still trying to find a team to manage after getting bored of my Moscow save, ideally with plenty of same-nation players, no debt and not in either of the European competitions, I might even take a look at a South American team instead.

Hmm I think stagnation is the word for it. I've noticed a couple of my scouts have lost their 20/20 ability. When you hire scouts do you go for the best ability or how many countries they are familiar with? I've read that it is important to hire scouts from different countries so that you get a broader search, regardless of their ability. I don't know though. I like my 20/20 for accuracy but you don't get too many.
 
Anyone ever played a 4-1-1-2-2 formation (1DM, 1MC, 2AMC, 2ST)

used to play a 4-2-3-1 formation, with 2MCs and 3AMCs, but with the arrival of some strikers, and the fact that some players were out of position, i think the 4-1-1-2-2- formation will fit better

I've never had that much success with these formations but that was probably because I was a low leaguer and didn't have very good players. Regardless of club I find the bog-standard 4-4-2 works really well for me.

I'm struggling with scouting. Has anyone got to a very high level in their club and tried scouting? I've won everything I can in my league and have been at my club for 7 seasons now. I'm also the richest club in the world. But my scouting network is struggling to find new talent. I've 29 scouts and most of them are world class. Quite a few of them are 20/20 too. I have a good chief scout and I let him organise the scouting. But in the last few seasons they have all struggled to find anyone to recommend. I've even tried to set scouting assignments myself based on youth intake dates, and I've also tried manual scouting all with little success. At the moment I have 96 players in my shortlist but only 5 of them are 4 star. No 5 star players. It's been like this for a few years now. My scouts keep finding the same players over and over.

I checked my leagues and I did notice that a few were not included, so I have added all that I can but I realise i will have to wait a year or so for the regens to appear. But that said, I still have 85,000 players listed. Seems odd to me! My database is the largest it can be, and I have some 190,000 players included. Anyone any thoughts on this?

Could it be partly because my club is playing at such a high level there are very few new players available? Or what? I can't even find players in Brazil or Argentina..

Narrow formations always worked for me. 4-4-2, 4-5-1, 3-5-2 etc. never worked for me. I got a bit of success with 4-2-3-1 (with 2 wingers) back in FM 09/10. Didn't use it much since.

With Pumas I used a 3-1-4-2 (1DM, 2MC, MR, ML, 2 ST) and it worked, only after perfecting it A LOT of times.

Narrow formations just work for me :p

Just to give you an idea how good this player I got is. Got him for 19M, and he is injured. His estimated value is something like 37.5M. HE HASN'T PLAYED A GAME YET!

I found this to be an issue at times too. I think because once you are a club that big, they stack them against the very best. You will only see a 5* player if he is good as Messi. And not all players are Messis :P

I got a guy with Napoli, he was rated 2* and 3* potential. Spend some 10M on him. 2 years later he went to Barca for 35M.

Don't always trust your scouts. If he is a 4* player, and you feel he has good stats, he is probably good :p
 
Yes I think you're right mate. It's just when I started out as manager of QPR there were quite a few 5* youths now there are none, and haven't been for seasons. Maybe next season when the new leagues are included I will have more choice. I even did a manual search of the top clubs in south america and there were none at all! Nothing even 4*. Surprising really.
 
Sad to hear Christian Benitez passed away lastnight aged just 27. Was always a player id try to sign when I played as wolves, any championship team or any mid table prem team. RIP.
 
Right no more MLS, won what I wanted and now I am done with Montreal Impact...



:) 2 down, not sure if I can be bothered to get the others and instead take Charlton out of the BSP back to real football (or Burton from the BSN)

For the record won 3 MLS titles in a row, the supporters shield twice (highest points in the league), one Canadian cup and one north American Champions League.
 
Ah some of those are really hard! How will you get the been at a club for 20 seasons one?? :p

The all the way up ones look amazing, have the english hero but I have no idea if I can sit through it in Brazil or Spain (they seem the hardest to crack) and I really like the idea of doing it in Scotland but without Rangers :D (mostly as its 2029 and the SPL looks the same as it always does now).

In my current save I started our as Kilmarnock and the won the SPL a couple of times. When I was poached by QPR I expected Kilmarnock to finish mid or low table with their new manager. It's quite difficult to keep hold of good players due to crappy wages but I was quite surprised. I've been with QPR for 7 seasons now and Kilmarnock have won the SPL every year since! Celtic seem to finish in second and Rangers generally in the top half of the table. So the youth players I invested in early appear to have worked out nicely for them! The new SPFL or whatever its called should be implemented in FM2014 and that will shake things up a bit I think.

It just goes to show how important it is to build a solid foundation. The first thing I did was build a strong back team and I noticed the other day that most of them are still with their club. Like decent scouts and investments in the facilities. They have also bought a new stadium, so they are doing really well.

That's amazing! I really should have gone to Scotland just to see what's going on there, took the Charlton job in the Conference Premier though, warm memories of Cafc in FM11...

The solid foundation thing is true 4 seasons after leaving Bishops Stortford and they have still win the prem once and gotten to the champions league final, despite selling all my best players :(, sometimes FM works out well. (more amusingly Sunderland have dropped to the BSP as well, nearly took them over with a 60k stadium at that level but cafc are more fun)

I'm starting a new game for each one mind.

I'm gonna cheat a bit for the 20 years one. i think it will take like 10 years to get English hero, then holiday bit by bit and make it to 20 years.

How am i going to do 30 games without conceding?!?! Might try with Rangers.

This is FM, you will concede an own goal in injury time in the 30th game :p

Been back on my Cambridge game lately, still stuck in the championship! About to loose my 3rd homegrown star :mad: board built a £24m new stadium now I can't even match contract renewals, can only offer about 80% of what they're on it's so frustrating. I don't want to leave because I got them up from BSP but if I lose my best striker (21yo, had him since 16 I think) who scores 25+ goals every season i'm out.
