***** Official Football Manager 13 Thread *****

There's a kind chap who stuck a pack of the best mods in one place. It's a few pages back up this thread. The face packs are great and really add atmosphere but there are still a lot of faces missing even now.

As for shirts and things I haven't been able to find a collection of those apart from the one I mentioned above. It looks like you need to source individual packs yourself.

thanks for the replies :)

Is anyone else having issues with the IS forums?

Its forgotten my login that ive been using for years, so ive gone to create a new one, and the random question thing just doesnt work.
Doesnt matter if i seperate each letter or have it all as one, just doesnt work.

Trying to get to the tactics forum.

The ironic thing is that to send a email to the admin, the same system is used!

Just been sacked in Feb of my first season with Eastleigh in the Blue Square South.

Had a terrible run of injuries at the start of the season that wiped out my best players for weeks and weeks and then just recently my two star strikers (and the non star strikers for that matter) just stopped scoring. Highlight reels of open goals being missed, shots fired straight at the keeper and ultimately 9 games or something without a win. Was in 9th place, did manage a recent win over the league leaders somehow and hadn't actually lost in 6 or 7 games and then BOOM - sacked.

Taken a job at Tonbridge Angels instead now, see how that pans out, try some different tactics, get a few guys in on loan as they've got literally no transfer budget and half the team is injured. The board say they're not bothered by performance but i'm now trying to help them avoid relegation.

It's a thoroughly engrossing game I must admit.

As expected, I finished 2nd behind Fenerbache. I won the Turkish Cup and arrived at the Quater Final in the CL. The board were pleased, but I was not. Still managed 5 trophies in 2 years with Galatasaray, and 1 cup with Kayserispor.

I'll try get a non-European club now to actually start winning :D:D

I think this game must be much harder in the lower leagues. You obviously don't have the huge transfer and wage budgets. I'm in my second management role now playing as Kilmarnock (SPL) and so far so good but I've played it much more slowly this time and have really taken an interest in the micro management and finer details. I've also kept my wage budget in check which has impressed the management. I think the key factors for success are improving the backroom team - upgrade your coaches or employ more, and get the best physios you can afford. Then try to focus on training and tactics. In my opinion game tactics are a major factor, maybe more so than they should be. I've still got an awful lot to learn however. There is a steep learning curve but it is fun all the same.

My first management role was an utter failure in much the same scale as yours. I lost my key strikers to a run of serious injuries which kept one of them out for almost the whole season - he broke his leg apparently - doh! I ended up relegated and then I got sacked. I couldn't really see any future in my game at that point so I quit and restarted.

Fingers crossed this season is much better.

I think i'm probably going to start again, there was so much I picked up during that season that would probably have been of benefit right from the start. You notice some odd things had occurred like i'd have a player moan about not getting first team football, find he was set to the reserve squad but had a rating better than any of the first team players.

Other things I picked up, such as getting a parent club with the aim of some decent loan players and some money, however I picked the League 1 team thinking 'awesome League 1 loans' who then refused any loan request on the basis they didn't want their players playing at such a low level.

Coaches as well, I didn't realise you could employ multiple coaches, so my backroom was no doubt woefully understaffed in comparison to the rest.

I've also learnt how different attributes affect the quality of advice - my staff didn't have the right attributes for the right roles and so the advice getting dished out was worthless. One minute you'd be told to give your keeper training in something, you go to do it and the bloke says 'I think it's a bit late in his career to try and change his game now'! Big help, thanks a lot! :p

Ahhh thats quality! Pep Guardiola took them over on mine, wont get a chance to manage United for quite a few years...

Should win everything in the first season?

I've also noticed a few little oddities in the game and I'm thinking maybe these are bugs? I don't know. Only played 130 hours so far :D

To be honest I haven't really investigated coaches stats in detail. I just tend to look out the ones with the highest abilities generally and take it from there. What attributes are you finding helpful? I've also been on the end of conflicting advice so maybe I need to do some more research.

I'm laughing at Mr Malteser's screenshots there. I can only dream of working my way up to that level with those incredible budgets. Insane stuff. I have to suffer £5k a week wage budget if that!

I don't know how good other teams are. I know my team would be ace with 3/4 Midfielders. Apart from that, I am happy.

EDIT: Remember guys, one day i was sacked from CHUNNAM DEAGONS!!!!

Already sold some ~30M worth of players. I need 1/2 DM, 2 MCs, and 1 AMC. El Sharaawy left for 25M and Fletcher 2.5M. Then I am getting a bit from youngsters.

Wanted to sign this amazing CB (better than Yanga Mbwia!!!) for 39M, but he went to City. I gave him 195k/w (as much as he wanted), City gave him 325k/w. My Cbs are pretty good though.

Having an Ass. Manager with a good ability to judge players seems to make a big difference - crap stats there and he can barely tell a one legged man from Messi it would seem so all the advice you get about who is playing well, who should be picked for the team, who you should sign, who you should let go etc. is all complete garbage.

Less of a problem for someone who knows the game but for you or I, relying on them a bit more to fill the gaps in our knowledge down in the lower leagues it can be a real handicap to be getting such poor advice. Similar applies for scouts obviously.

Reading around suggests in the lower leagues you probably benefit more from strength and fitness training versus skill training than you will as you progress up the higher leagues.

Given how the coaching workload is spread though, having multiple coaches dedicated for areas seems to hugely improve the clubs abilities.

As far as bugs go - I think there are a few - I often get message saying 'You should arrange a staff meeting, your backroom staff have advice they'd like to share' and you do so to be presented with a 'There is no advice at this time' screen :/

LOOK AT THE PREVIOUS POST AS I EDITED IT.

So there are 5 continents I have to win. heck, who said Europe can't be first?!?!?!?!?!

That's amazing! In order to do the 5 Continent challenge do you need to have leagues from each of those continents actively running, running in the background (playable I think they call it) or can you add them as and when you like?

Coaches are very useful, and as I think I mentioned in a previous post, I always go for players retired by the game hom then go into coaching. I find these have higher level of potential coaching ability and therefore their attributes can rapidly improve as your team improves.

In terms of Assistant Manager when in the lower leagues, having high motivation, determination, tactical knowledge and man management is key. I always let my Ass. Man. take my team talks, and if they have high figures in these key attributes then your team talks can have huge affects on how you start each half of the game. Also, and I didn't realise until quite a way into my save game, your Ass. Man. can give general team talks as well as individual player team talks. I had no idea, but it can really help.

Also when managing on low budgets, I'd highly recommend looking at young and youth players which come out of the bigger teams. Also, add to your shortlist players whom have been released but are currently out of your range (i.e. they're too good). 6 months without a job and they'll accept anything. In my save, Rodwell had been released from Man City after 4-5 seasons - he sat around turning down offers from bad Premier League clubs and after a while everyone just forgot about him. 9 months later Gillingham had picked him up on a £1,700 a week contract in League One!!

As you want.

You can start out with 10 leagues (all non-European) and take on less popular continents first, then add in European ones when you get to it. I just opened a lot of leagues to have more choice where I want to go.

This is how I started:

EDIT: Just noticed. This Man United team won the Champion's League :D OMFG I AM AT A CHAMPIONS LEAGUE WINNING TEAM! WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

They lost the FA cup final to Nottm. Forest LOL!

I am rated top team in Europe, lol.

EDIT: Chelsea coach left. Prefer European Champions than English Champions tbh :P

EDIT 3: I hate to spam this thread, but who would you guys chose out of these 2:

Nani_OverviewAttributes_zps5135466c.png

PabloCabral_OverviewAttributes_zps8daf0f9b.png

I have an 8M offer accepted for Cabral. The only downside is that the scouts rate him 2* currant and 4* potential :/ Not too sure about that myself. he will replace Nani (hence Nani's stats)

Buy Cabral! Needs to work on his concentration but should be a good player!

I am just about to brave about my 4th go at getting the transfer window right to promotion. Can't seem to get the balance of who I want and who I need into the squad yet and I keep shooting my self in the foot with some mad England u21's transfer that I shouldn't do...
