******* Official Football Manager 14 Thread *******

I think people are forgetting the many different factors involved in this. At the moment I am finding it a *little* inconsistent but I am not putting the blame on the match engine per se. I am still a developing premiership team, so I will run into problems from time to time. All I can offer as advice is to develop your back team as comprehensively as possible. Make sure you have excellent coaches and a decent physio. Grab the best Ass. manager you can afford and try and find a formation/tactic and stick to it! I have followed my own advice and I am starting the reap the rewards. Sure, there are issues with the ME. Shots at goal etc is unrealistic, but I don't take it as gospel. As long as i win the match who cares. I'm sure things like this will be addressed by SI in due course.

Toshj, as for the penalties - are you trying to prevent them in the first place? I use balanced tactics (not fluid). Are you using hassle oponents? What are your tacking abilities like?
 
Thought I would give sweeper keeper a go with lloris. 3 yellow cards and a red later for handling outside the area, perhaps not the best idea!!! :)
 
Couldn't agree more Phil. Its a representation of the game not actually a real game.
Coaches and stuff really help, if you don't want to be so in-depth hire a director of football and get him to hire all your staff. As your club rep grows he hires better coaches etc. Always hire your own assistant first though.
 
Anyone to help me with scouting - perhaps my database is setup badly, but I have 3 or 4 scouts of different nationalities all with 16-20 JP and JA who are assigned to finding players aged 18 at most. So for after about 4-5months in-game they have found literally nothing! One of them found a handful of average potential youngsters but that is it. Not sure what's going on here, I'm doing the same thing as in FM13 which yielded hundreds of results.

Im not currently at home so cannot head onto fm and check my shot distance I can tell you though that there are a lot of longshots even when telling my players to work ball into box and shoot less. ive tried 1 upfront to 3 upfront and always have the same trouble, in league one I had doyle, Cassidy and Griffiths who are probably the 3 best strikers in league one. They did better in the championship but I was still having the same problem, I now have Necid and billy McKay with ulloa as backup but still same troubles. Ive tried 4-1-2-2-1, 4-4-2, 4-5-1, 4-3-3, 4-2-2-2 and always the same. Ive have the best coaches I can get most are 4 star, I have a great physio and a really good assman. I have checked shots and more are on the line of the box I have a couple ccc a game but never score from them only corners and longshots. Quit my job and took charge of arsenal but having an even worse time there with better players! about to get the sack even though I dominate possession and scoring chances I keep dropping points, ive tried every approach but always the same. Its impossible for me to get a result against the Chelsea, manus, mancities, its like my team becomes league 2 contenders when against them. Would love to be able to see the AI tactics as I lost to Chelsea 4-0 at home where I had 2 shots and they had 35 lol couldn't pass, couldn't shoot and even my keeper would not distribute to defenders, subbed him off he was annoying me so much.

Yes its not perfect, but its better than it has been.
Of course your defenders will go to sleep some games but play a formation that can score goals and you will out score the opponent.
As for strikers not scoring, yes its frustating with some of them but i have had some great signings that have scored over 20 goals a season.
The press always ask about managers do you need to say more than they are asking, as they never shut up lol.

Thanks Philstanbridge i agree with you, it works just fine. Its not like watching match of the day, but didnt Norwhich lose 7-0 last week and win 3-1 today? and didnt Sheffield Wednesday beat Reading 5-2 to lose to Derby this week? or is that real life bugs?

I ended up with 0 budget, and just 10k/w wage budget after buying Balanta. I asked then for more transfer funds and more wage funds. They gave me 8.5M (!!!!!!!!!) tranfer budget, and 15k/w more wage budget.

They are upgrading training facilities, and they gave me the possibility to have more coaches. Basically, they are giving me all I want!

It's annoying when they can't release a finished game, and this is far from finished but I agree it is still fun at times. I am looking forward to the patches to resolve all the broken bits.

I took the Bournemouth hotseat from the off and promptly got relegated to L1 where I was willing to fight for promotion but I got the boot. I was recruited by a relegated Hull and am doing pretty well in the Championship (3rd). Playing my own 4312.
 
Played five seasons into my 6th now
G/Scorers as follows
13/14 - Bothroyd 26 goals
14/15 - Necid - 12
15/16 - Cordozo 21
16/17 - Gabbiadini 29
17/18 - Rondon 30

i changed my formation after the second season as i needed to play a different blend of football and i reaped the rewards for my goals.

The defenders got tweaked for their performance because fullbacks got amazing scores, they went the other way and got terrible scores they got tweaked again for better scores, but its not perfect.

Looking at the stats of my team the goals change with the assits as well they go up like the goals.

Now for the leagues i scored goals in the leagues and conceded
13/14 Championship Goals 85 Conceded 71
14/15 Premierleague goals 59 Conceded 45
15/16 Premierleague goals 52 Conceded 47
16/17 Premierleague goals 79 Conceded 36
17/18 Premierleague goals 88 Conceded 31
as you can see it took while to bed into the formations and find players that can score goals, but ive always found they can score if you have someone that can assist.

But this is what I don't understand. The developers have said something is broken and they are working on it. Yet despite this coming from SI you say you don't blame the ME ????????

And about the 343094709 shot and the opposition has 1 and scores and goes onto win 1-0 type results. I had had these things happen in other FM's but what people are experiencing is happening way to much on this version. That is the gripe.

Its okay to say oh it happened the other day in the EPL. But it doesn't happen to that team every other week or a couple of games a month. That is what people are complaining about.

Are you using fluid tactics? I found the random long shots were as a result of this. I use balanced now, and the long shots are definitely less. Also, are any of your players PPR long shots? They may be practiced in them but they can still miss etc.
 
I'm trying some mods - I've found one I love! OLT Expanded Hair pack.. LOL.. I know I know, sounds bizarre. But it's great. It adds hundreds of new hair styles and types to the game makes the regens look far better..

I'm just going to try the new ad boards now too.
 
If you want to see the hilarious defending that people like nuzik claim does not happen then set your corners short and have a good dribbler/finisher go short.

Laugh as the opposition just watch your man run into the 6 yard box and tap it in.
 
2nd season 10 games in in 4th, was top before the last game but lost to (then) 2nd, doing much better than last season :)

was losing to 9th placed team 3-1 at half time, threw another striker on and came back to win 5-3 :)

For those that moan about the game being stupid and unfair and the match engine wrong, just check out the stats of today's two games. And tell me that FM is unrealistic, both Sunderland and Newcastle were battered today but still managed to score.
