******* Official Football Manager 14 Thread *******

Another voucher possibly going here too, I've emailed a couple of mates who may want it but it's first come, first served, message me if you want it.

After 4 seasons slugging it out in League 1 as Crewe, I finally got into the Championship.

First season and I've come second so we're up again  :D

I'm not quite sure how we've done that as the club is totally skint. I've had no transfer budget (got one loan and free transfer at the start of the season) and I can't renew some contracts as I've no wage budget. Was planning on at least a couple of seasons to sort out the squad - going to be very hard not to get battered in the Premiership!

It's so rewarding when you do well like that. But as you say, now the game really begins :)

You'll probably have to ditch some of your best players with no wage budget - or they'll get poached. Don't let them go for free! Have you asked the board to see if they can help? Also, if you have a director of football in charge of contract renewals they can sometimes negotiate better deals than you are able. Only thing with that is you need a VERY good DOF and you have to keep an eye on things too. They will happily renew contracts part way through the season - with or without your blessing. This is where you need to manually select whether the player is unwanted or whatnot. But I'm getting ahead of myself a bit there.

Good luck in the BPL :D

Nice one dude.

Stopped playing FM. Just lost interest because I got over 10 injuries in pre-season. Also, all the players I wanted to buy seem to get injured just before i sign them, so they join me with a small 2 week injury (they still pass the medical). Very frustrating.

I started off with a semi-pro Paris FC, won the national league and Ligue 2 back to back, got 14th spot in Ligue 1 first time around then owner sells up and new board sack me for no reason. So annoyed, it wasn't even a 'sugar daddy' take over just some random ex player.

I even beat the massive rival PSG 1-0 (Paris FC/PSG were one club years ago) argghhhh, don't know if I can be bothered with this save now

Take on another French club and **** on Paris FC. Maybe PSG?

Arggh that is such a shame :( I have been on the end of takeovers a few times now, but every time I got lucky. I was doing exceptionally well at the time mind you, so maybe that is a consideration.

I've got a discount code too.

I absolutely love starting off in the lowest leagues. It's such a challenge! I've just started unemployed with no experience - took me over a year  to get a job with Welling who were in the lowest playable league. Started out very precariously for me, they were right at rock bottom and I didn't do too well in the first season as it was all about consolidating rather than trying to achieve anything proper. Anyway, got promotion in season 2 and now am about to win promotion to League 2!

The thing I absolutely love doing is this. Save enough cash to become professional - then your scouting range improves. Once that has improved providing you have European scouts you will automatically find some European players in your player list. Now you can't scout them, but they are often worth a punt! I invested in one such player, completely blind. He was a 20 year old striker from Spain, with reasonable stats as far as I could make it. He wasn't cheap but the club sold him to me and I could pay for him over 4 years. He was on a relatively small wage too. He has turned into a striker of epic proportions for me. He has 43 goals so far in April and is easily the best player in the league. He's an amazing regen player and his potential is such is that he could become a leading championship striker for me which will pay dividends in the future. This is not the first time I have taken risks like this either. More often than not it works a treat! For some reason these foreign players are nearly always better than the English equivalents.

If you don't have the money to splash you can also add all of them to your shortlist and wait for their contracts to expire. More often than not some of them will become free transfers. I've used this method too and I gained a £400k defender for £1000 a week wages. Not bad in the lowest league.
