******* Official Football Manager 14 Thread *******

I have two of the vouchers for 75% off FM. Feel free to add me and let me know your Steam name in this thread and I'll send a voucher over. Don't see why people with FM are getting these vouchers! :D

It's so rewarding when you do well like that. But as you say, now the game really begins :)

You'll probably have to ditch some of your best players with no wage budget - or they'll get poached. Don't let them go for free! Have you asked the board to see if they can help? Also, if you have a director of football in charge of contract renewals they can sometimes negotiate better deals than you are able. Only thing with that is you need a VERY good DOF and you have to keep an eye on things too. They will happily renew contracts part way through the season - with or without your blessing. This is where you need to manually select whether the player is unwanted or whatnot. But I'm getting ahead of myself a bit there.

Good luck in the BPL :D

Cheers

The board is tighter than a duck's ****. Thankfully they've upped my wage budget for the off season so I can renew. I ended up selling a player in January as his agent didn't want to even talk about a new contract - he moved to Sheff Utd in L1. He's now transfer listed again :D

Have spent a bit of time today going through my huge U18 squad to set the poor players to not wanted as there must be a few grand going into their wages, even at £80/week for the juniors.

Help on system specs

I've been out of PC gaming for a while (about 4 years) so a little behind on looking at system requirements etc and want an idea how well my current desktop will run FM14. I built it about 4 years ago (added SSD a few years ago) and the specs are:

Motherboard: Asus P7P55D Rev 1.02G
CPU: Intel i5 750 2.66ghz
RAM: G.Skill RipJaw F3-12800CL8D-4GBRM (2x2gb)
GPU: XFX GTX260 576mhz 896mb
PSU: BeQuiet Dark Power Pro P7 850w
HDD: 2 X Samsung HD103SJ 1TB
SSD: Crucial M4-CT128M4SSD2 128GB
Windows 7 Home Premium

Looking at the sys rec for the game, I can see I've enough RAM and the CPU is fine, but what about the graphics card given I want to watch some matches in 3D mode?

Cheers.

The machine will churn through FM. You can play FM with the worst system possible.

3D engine will work even without a graphics card (integrated) so don't worry. Its a very basic engine.

I'm playing FM14 with my 7 year old Q6600 CPU :(. I really need a new PC.

Gave this a blast the past few nights (thanks philstanbridge for the code).

my god I just get beat constantly...really leaking goals like no tomorrow.

Be lucky to see Christmas, fine tuning tactics to stem losses now and then I'll take it straight into a new save.

hehehe.. Oh yes, it's not an easy game. :D

It's very difficult to find a successful tactic that works for your players. There's lots of advice I could give, but it is very dependent on your club, your back room support and obviously your players.

I've just got welling promoted to the Champs, from the lowest playable league. With one formation and a series of winning tactics. So I'm pleased with that.

Cheers, Malteser. Good to know as I'm not updating my hardware until xmas. FM14 should see me through till then :-)

It won't load very quickly. Reduce the number of leagues and database size to get a 'fast' game. It gets progressively slower though as the number of players increase. Once you update your PC, you can add leagues.

A little tip for a transfer (not for top level) is a guy called Tony Watt at Celtic. I always get him when I need a budget striker and he is always awesome for the way I play. In Eredivisie last season for example he got me 12 goals in 16 apps with 4 assists...all for £54k :D I play him as lone AF.

Yes he is a good striker. He is currently a premier league striker in one of my saves, although he is fair to middling at that level.

I do find it strange whilst we are discussing transfers and quality players, how some teams are happy to let world class potential players go for small figures. Yet some teams want ridiculous amounts of money for them. I wonder what the trigger is for this. For example, I managed to pick up a world class potential striker, ages 21, for £5.5 million from Real Madrid!! He is now 22 and scored 34 goals last season for me. He is one of my best players. Yet he was dirt cheap. Yet some clubs want £60 million+ for equivalent players.

I play very attacking football on FM14, always have. Lower league teams have a tendancy to leak silly goals so I solely aim to out score them.

Same seems to apply to my save with Crewe's first season in the BPL. Early season relegation 6 pointer against QPR - was 3-0 down after 3 defensive howlers inside 25 minutes. Finished 4-4 :D

Yep, the irony is you need an attacking fluid tactic in lower leagues to play a more defensive game. Two up front always helps as does a narrow, high tempo game. Just as long as you have a decent goalkeeper ;) I've just got Welling into the Premier League so I must be doing something right.

Just started working on an 07/08 custom DB for this game, I've got plenty of knowledge on the well known teams and players but less knowledge on the more obscure players and leagues, so just looking for some help on people who support smaller and foreign teams or know more about them and would like to contribute :)
