I think when 3 players do naff all and stand round a player without even doing a thing, not even the macarena or the hokey cokey it's a bug. ;) They don't do a ruddy thing. I don't use stand off and this happens mainly with defenders who should be tackling. I'll see if I can dig out some highlights tomorrow and see if you're onto something. :p
 
Has anyone got a formation they swear by on this FM? I keep going back to the game but nowadays I have little patience when wanting to create a decent formation, I must be getting old.

I swear by my 4-4-2 Narrow Diamond

4 defence, left and right back set to wing back.
1 DM
2 CM
1 AM
2 ST

Play fluid high tempo football.
 
I've also had most success with narrow formations.

I use a 4-1-2-1-2

2 strong and tall central defenders who will stay back
2 fast wingbacks who will get forward
1 DM
2 central midfielders, one who is AP and one is a ball winner
1 AMC who is a T or a AP, who will score goals
2 excellent AF strikers

I've tried all sorts of other formations. I had some luck with a standard 4-4-2 but not enough goals. Wingers are usually essential but since 14 I've not had a great deal of luck with wingers or inside forwards .
 
Is there anyway to be more productive with free kicks? My best rate taker has a rating of 14 but he thinks he's Ronaldo, so cracks them off from all angles. The crowd in row Z see more of them than the 'keeper. Gets a bit dull seeing so many launched into orbit rather than chipping in a ball or a short pass.

Yes but it will take time.

You can train your best kicker to rifle free kicks. This helps significantly. You also should train him specifically to work on his free kicks, which will effect all the relative ratings as well.

I was struggling with Arsenal at the end of January, I say struggling, inconsistent, still near the top but some good 10 points behind Chelsea. I bought Morata for 15m which I thought was a bargain and he's been a revelation, now top of the league, won the league cup and in the CL still. Podolski also been amazing.

Sounds good. I started as Arsenal too, kept everyone, tried flogging Flappyhandski but nobody would take him even on loan. Bought Jackson Martinez to rotate with Giroud and so far it's all gravy. Two wins from two in the league including the NLD at WHL, hammered PAOK by 5 goals in the first leg of the CL qualifier in Greece, brought Meulensteen into my backroom staff and a couple of high-ish rated scouts so I'll see how it goes.

I had huge problems with consistency in 13.
 
Part of the problem with consistency is that it is a hidden attribute. Every player has a level out of 20. You just don't know who is consistent and who is not unless you use an editor. It's a bit like injury proneness. But consistency is an awful attribute and I don't know how to improve it.
