******* Official Football Manager 14 Thread *******

Just checked wages. If I get rid of Fellaini, Kagawa and Evra I would save £335k a week! Bung Cleverley in there and it's £399k!!
Great. They might want quite a bit more. Not sure how a player of his quality when as cheap as he did :p
Scouts reckon between £9.5m and £13.25m for him. I'll see what they want now I've enquired about him. :)

That's going to be my new policy. My wages were a few hundred K under the limit at the beginning of the season. I'm now £67k a week over it due to the renewals.

I've done this on more or less all the recent Football Manager games, as soon as players hit 30/31 I tend to offer shorter contracts.

Literally minutes before I posted for suggestions I was looking at Romero and imagining what my midfield would be like if I sold Fellaini and Cleverley and partnered Romero with Bender keeping Carrick and Fletcher either on the bench or for tutoring.

He's fantastic, moving in to my third season and I'm looking to move Fellaini and Carrick on. Will be keeping Fletcher for back up. Cleverly; Romero, Pugliese. Could do with bringing in another player too.

Attacking players is just amazing :D; Vadala, Zaha, Kagawa, Januzaj, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Mata, Zivkovic (Andrija), looking to bring in Meyer and Reus or Shaqiri (probably Shaqiri).

Welbeck, Van Persie, Barbossa, Zivkovic (Richario) are my forwards. I still have Rooney but he's being a right ****. Said he wanted a new challenge, after being given a new long term contract (within ten days), then agreed to stay if Manchester United won the title, won the title and then just before the next game (and final game) handed in a transfer request, now (3 weeks in to pre season) said he wants to stay. ****.

Smug!! :) Got to find a way of selling off the weaker players and keep meeting the home grown rules!

Haha, won the Champions league final (without Rooney) 3-5 on penalties after a 1-1 draw against Barcelona :). Good match, went down to ten men for quite a period so I just totally shut up shop in an attempt to not concede.

Well I'm on £2.67m a week. Fellaini is on £110k a week. If Evra leaves and I can sell Kagawa, Cleverley I think I could save almost £400k a week!

I'm not on too much more to be honest, but I'll be doing some moving this summer and want to bring it down a little.

Will check him out. Evans/Jones are fantastic for me as a first choice DC partnership but I think the Doria/Smalling pairing needs Smalling changed for someone else.

Doria has totally taken over as first choice. Doria and Jones with Evans and Samlling next. Rafael and Chambers RB, Shaw and Buttner LB (Buttner has literally, never let me down)

Bender has a fantastic work rate/teamwork, fairly pacy and lots of other good attributes so he'd be a good tackling midfielder and with Romero, should be a vast improvement on my current midfield. :)

Do it! I played Cleverly in a slightly more attacking role this season with Romero playing the 'destroyer' role, a role he's very good at. I'd like to move Romero to be more attacking this season, while moving out Failaini and bring in a holding midfielder.

Cheers. I'll look him up at home.

:D.

Makes sense to limit the hit. That's why I let Rio and Giggs' contract run out last season because they were too old and slow and would have cost too much to renew their contracts. Signed Giggs as a coach instead though.

Pugliese? Who's he? AMC? I definitely want to ship Fellaini out, Carrick I would like to keep but he's getting quite slow now. Fletcher is a dependable bench option and helpful with tutoring. I find I can't get Cleverley working. Powell is quite good for me, especially when I stick him in an AMC position.

I think £2.6m is a lot of money. I'd like to get it down to £2.4/5m if possible. I might have to wait until Van Persie and Rooney leave thanks to Van Persie's ruddy match highest earner clause. :o

Doria has totally taken over as first choice. Doria and Jones with Evans and Samlling next. Rafael and Chambers RB, Shaw and Buttner LB (Buttner has literally, never let me down)
Weirdly Doria has been class for me all season but in the last few games he's been a right wally and run up the pitch leaving a gap for an attacking team to score through. I have Gino Peruzzi backing up Rafael and Shaw/Buttner/Evra on the left. Evra will leave though and considering the other changes I need to make I'll keep Buttner for the time being. He's been solid for me and I see no reason to unsettle the team that much.

Gonna cost me moneys!! As I say, Powell does for me what Cleverley can't. What roles do you put Cleverley in?

Well I can't be seen to be playing FM at work. Even if I am the ICT Manager. I was actually quite busy as well so no time to play even if I wanted to. :(

I kept Giggs for the second season, managed to get him down to £35'000 a week, I played him in a deep lying play maker role whenever he played, despite his diminishing physical ability he was ~effective~ in the role, mainly played in the early rounds of the cup competitions too, rather keep him as back up than rush one of the two other youngsters I had in too early.

Rio left and then retired, signed him as a coach afterwards.

Pugliese? Who's he? AMC? I definitely want to ship Fellaini out, Carrick I would like to keep but he's getting quite slow now. Fletcher is a dependable bench option and helpful with tutoring. Vadala and Zivkovic are two names I'll have to scout out.

He's a defensive midfielder / holding midfielder, he's young (can be got really cheap first window) but he's got bags of potential and is coming along quite well for me. Still very young, so the third season will be where he gets some serious playing time.

Vadala is an attacking mid, again can be got quite cheap early one, and has good potential and I'm looking forward to getting him in and around the first team.

Zivkovic (there are two, dutch forward who is just such an amazing youngster, and a very talented winger from serbia? and he's good, don't miss Valencia at all (he was doing well) and obviously don't miss Young or Nani, who were so wildly inconsistent and generally poor.

Amazing how life-like FM can be eh! :p

He's been a right **** over it all, I half don't want to keep him but nobody would come in at near what his value was (£45, 000, 000).

Weird. I'm through to the final of the Champions League and it's against Barcelona!!

Barcelona have Costa on my save, really good side. Totally dominant at times.

I think £2.6m is a lot of money. I'd like to get it down to £2.4/5m if possible. I might have to wait until Van Persie and Rooney leave thanks to Van Persie's ruddy match highest earner clause. :o

Van Persie and Rooney both signed new contracts (can not stand match highest earner clauses), Rooney on slightly more but Van Persie just will not stop scoring.

Weirdly Doria has been class for me all season but in the last few games he's been a right wally and run up the pitch leaving a gap for an attacking team to score through. He's been pretty good, he started ~averagely~ and has just gotten better and better, so much so he got to first choice about 1/3 of the way through the season and has not really looked back.

Evra was expensive and just not worth it, moved him and Vidic on to Monaco :).

Gonna cost me moneys!! As I say, Powell does for me what Cleverley can't. What roles do you put Cleverley in?

Cleverly plays a deep role, picking the ball up and moving to one of the 3 attacking players, I want him to be creative and he does ~ok~ most of the time, hit some really good runs of form after Christmas for me. Powell is good, had injuries so he's often played more in the AMC position this season.

Well I can't be seen to be playing FM at work. Even if I am the ICT Manager. I was actually quite busy as well so no time to play even if I wanted to. :([/QUOTE]

What's the point in managing if you can't play FM? :p, :o finished my last Uni exam for the summer.... so trying to find a balance between life and FM now! haha.

Just picked up Mangala from Barcelona for £8,500,000 (rose to £12,500,000 with buying out the part owned).

Fantastic defender :), French and young!

What sort of world scouting coverage do you guys have in your saves? I usually never manage to go over 60-65% but on this save with Ayr in the SPFL I have got 74%. It has been very difficult to achieve however. I have 27 scouts and 24 coaches.

Think City or Chelsea signed him on my game. Was quite annoyed as I wanted him but couldn't afford him once I'd taken care of the rest of my transfer business.

52% with 24 scouts I think. I need to spend some time setting the scouting up properly. Any hints? :)

Oh yes. You could write a book on scouting alone in this game. I am finding loads of things out about it as I experiment.

Obviously, the more scouts you have the more players will appear in your list. The best thing I have found is to hire the absolute best scouts you can, regardless of their nationality. You need judging ability/potential and adaptability/determination as key skills.

Now that may sound logical but it isn't. If you hire a scout who is say German, he will find German players. If you hire a scout with Nigerian knowledge, he will find African players etc etc. But this is only half the story. Coaches are the best way to improve your scouting knowledge, believe it or not. They improve your knowledge far better than any scout. So you can hire ten English scouts and as many coaches with individual nationalities, to achieve a thorough scouting knowledge. The plus to this is, as well as improving your player list you also have a top coaching squad, which is vitally important for your players.

I used to think it was scouts alone which improved your list. Of course, a good scout with lots of experience will always help, but a lot of the time you will not find a scout with that much experience unless they have continental knowledge. Then they cost mega bucks. So the trick is, to focus on your coaching team. Make sure that every coach is from a completely different region, and is the best you can afford. If possible, find coaches with multi-country knowledge as this will improve your scouting ability hugely. As an example, I managed to find a good coach from Japan, who had Korean and other knowledge. As soon as I hired him, a whole load of new players appeared from that region. I had no access to these players with my other scouts/coaches.

I've discovered some absolute gems in the middle east. I found a young central defender whom I got for £8 million - and his stats are off the chart. He will end up world class I'm sure. That's not bad for Ayr United lol..

There's an awful lot to learn - just experiment and see how you get on.

I'm having a strange issue at the start of a new season. I've accidently not registered one of my keepers. Now when I go to register him he's not actually in my list of selectable players, very odd. I've only got 21 people selected so it's definitely not that..

Is he in your reserves squad?

How do I check that mate?

EDIT: he's not in my U21 or U18 squads if that's what you mean. He's set to senior squad but isn't appearing any more..
There's an option to hide players who are unavailable for the next game. Could that be active and thus causing him to be hidden when it's a game he's not registered for?

Haha, true, yes. :D

Most of my scouts have good JA/JP but I'm realising now I need adaptability and determination to be quite high as well. Is one more important than the other do you know?

I tend not to hire coaches because they are English/British. I try to hire whoever I can find and is good, or perhaps would improve the coaching in a certain area.

Hmm, interesting. Name of this scout from Japan please. :D

Again, share some names. ;)

Yeah. :)

Sometimes it seems the players ignore the instructions.

Had "work ball into box" on for the whole match, yet post match shows we had five shots, all from the edge of the box or further out. I know the players aren't Premiership gods and going to lash it from 35 yards, hence going with WBIB to try to shoot from much closer range.

Yeah. :)

I don't think adaptability is more important than determination but both should be considered essential. Adaptability is how well the person settles in to their new country/role. Basically how well they adapt. With a player a high adaptability means two things. It helps them from becoming unsettled and it also helps them when learning new positions/roles as with versatility. With a coach/scout it means they will adapt to new countries quicker and will improve their scouting knowledge faster, basically offering more quality players.

If you do not hire coaches this is a problem. You will always have access to coaches from other countries, you just need to find them. You need to hire coaches asap to help with your backroom team and to aid scouting. Hire a Scandinavian coach and check your scouting knowledge. If you have no Scandinavian coach/scout then you will now have access to players (and better coaches/scouts from that region.

Sharing names will be of no use as they are regens.

In old FM's (CM's maybe?) you got news about big transfers, you never seem to hear about them on this FM. Can you set what news you receive? A player went for 50m on my current save and I had no idea until I flukily found him and looked at his history.
