******* Official Football Manager 14 Thread *******

I bought him last summer for £12m. I play him with Smalling as my 2nd choice DC pairing after Evans/Jones. Vidic and Rio left last summer.

Was wondering if there's an 18-21 year old who wouldn't be first team material for a while but would be more than good enough to deputise in a few games should any of my main 4 be injured/suspended/unfit etc.

He signed for Roma in the first summer of my game for £4.2m.

He is at Roma in real life. As in, they bought him in real life :p

He still leaves quite cheap. Romagnoli and Cpradossi also become good it seems, but they need training, i.e. they are not already good.

A screenshot of how Capradossi can become

Interesting how some of you prefer to buy 'real' players or players with experience. I like to develop the youth regens - seeing how they turn out is fun. If I was in your position I would have a 17-18 year old with loads of potential just sitting there in the reserves squad, training hard.

Midfielder :).
Cool, thanks. :) I was looking at him last night just before I asked for DC suggestions. Was someone else asking for a midfielder because I can't see how I could use Romero as a DC. :D

Evra wants a new challenge and will be leaving at the end of the season. Thinking of moving Fellaini on. Will move Cleverly on as well if I can get some decent money for him. Just need to decide if I go for Lars Bender or Lucas Romero. If I've got the money I'll go for both to give the midfield a bit of steel. I also want to get rid of Kagawa who is too inconsistent and his wages are now ridiculous.

I've noticed a few players apparently want new contracts according to the backroom staff. I have a look at their demands and they ask for no more money, don't want longer contracts, haven't changed their appearance fees. The only thing they would get out of a new contract is their signing on fee for them and their manager which is often £4m+! Considering in most cases they signed a new contract within the last year I don't bother offering them a new contract so they can get a few million out of the club. Does anyone else get this?

I only offer contracts when they are down to the last 7 months. I might offer them a new one if they ask me with around 1 year before, because if they become unhappy in those 6 months, I'll lose him for free.

These players are a matter of months into 4 year contracts so it's not that, it's more greed. Especially when their salary and bonuses stay the same, the only thing they would get is their signing on bonus. I've stopped doing it now because I want to sell a few of them and with their contracts ending in 2019 and us being in 2015 I can do what I want.

I get 'advice' from the back room staff to offer players new contracts, sometimes only ~6 months after signing a new one. So I just ignore them. If a player has had a fantastic season or young and coming towards ~18 months or ~12 months left on his current contract I will try and offer a new one. If the players are a bit older or are not 'first team' I tend to hold off a bit.

Romero is just a monster Marc! He's absolutely fantastic. I signed him first season along with Doria (who's basically established himself alongside Jones, in my second season). I still need to strengthen my first team and squad on my Manchester United game although I have just won the sextuplet and still have the Champions league final to play :D.

I've got rubbish wages as it is (over spending) and have a lot of work to do on this save, can not believe that Fellaini is on ~£75'000 a week .

Probably circumstantial but from what I can see Bender is the best CM in the world in my Man Utd game at the mo in 2019 (iirc), he's at Chelsea worth 40m+ I was thinking of spending silly money to get him in the next window because Fellaini is abysmal, Sandro is getting on a bit and I have no ready replacements in youth. AI manager before me bought in Will Hughes and some random Spanish CM too but they aren't good enough. I've been playing Nick Powell in AMC and he has highest rating in league so far after rotting in reserves til I joined, very good player.

That's going to be my new policy. My wages were a few hundred K under the limit at the beginning of the season. I'm now £67k a week over it due to the renewals.

Literally minutes before I posted for suggestions I was looking at Romero and imagining what my midfield would be like if I sold Fellaini and Cleverley and partnered Romero with Bender keeping Carrick and Fletcher either on the bench or for tutoring.

Smug!! :) Got to find a way of selling off the weaker players and keep meeting the home grown rules!

Well I'm on £2.67m a week. Fellaini is on £110k a week. If Evra leaves and I can sell Kagawa, Cleverley I think I could save almost £400k a week!

Umtiti is a fantastic defender, but could be very costly by now .
Will check him out. Evans/Jones are fantastic for me as a first choice DC partnership but I think the Doria/Smalling pairing needs Smalling changed for someone else.

Bender has a fantastic work rate/teamwork, fairly pacy and lots of other good attributes so he'd be a good tackling midfielder and with Romero, should be a vast improvement on my current midfield. :)

Ismit Mirin (the spelling id definitely wrong...) becomes quite decent. He is at Monaco I think. Went for quite cheap in my game (€5M)
Cheers. I'll look him up at home.
