I ALWAYS say it, and always will. Narrow formations are always better on FM.
They do seem to be, BUT I did have phenomenal success with a 4-4-2 in 13.

I know it's a cop-out but because I hadn't played the game for ages I thought I'd make it easy on myself and start with City. I didn't buy anyone but comfortably won the PL, League Cup and EuropaD)
The next season though is ridiculous, strengthened my team with Kroos, Reus, Varane and Ter Stegen and now can't win for love no money. Getting beat at home by Everton and Villa when I didn't lose a home game last season, the game is so bizarre.
Are you fluid in your tactics? It takes a good few months to become fluid, and when you introduce new players, your team cohesion takes a BIG knock. It might just be that causing you teething problems.
I've kept the same formation but with better players.
I used the formation in the first season throughout, I'm 12 games into the second season and I've kept the same formation but with better players. I don't think I can perceiver with it if I'm getting beat at home etc.
I've given up now. Raaage quit.

The number of times I get a tough Premier League team but Chelsea/City/Arsenal/Liverpool/Spurs get a Championship or even a League One team is ridiculous!!I'm sure cup draws are rigged. No matter what level I always seem to draw the favourite or a difficult team, I blame the corrupt FA!
The same formation is great but 12 games into a new season with lots of new players is nowhere near enough. It's irrelevant that they are better quality. In pre-season you need to set training levels to high and team cohesion. The other tab needs ideally to be set to tactics only. This is the quickest way to a fluid and cohesive team when the season starts. Even then it takes a good few months for them all to gel. The only way round this is to keep with the same players season through season.
It's plowing through also, this performance star business seems to make no difference, anyone else notice this?
How do you mean? Makes a lot of difference to me. All the players will be able to play to a certain level of course, but only the ones with 3/4 stars plus will be capable of improving in your team. I always think of the potential rather than their current ability. It takes roughly a season for a player to integrate and improve by a star or so, depending on training facilities and game time.
Yeah. I have quite a few players loaded as well as countries/leagues and my game is about 3.5 stars yet it processes things quite well.Sorry should have been specific, I meant the star/speed rating it gives your game when you first start
Can anyone suggest a decent, young DC to act as my 5th choice DC for covering in the worst injury crisis situations?
