******* Official Football Manager 14 Thread *******

First impressions. Pretty excellent to be honest. For a beta it's very stable. I expect they will address the colour issue in the final version. It's very 'white' at the moment. But clarity wise it is excellent. The attribute boxes seem larger this time round, and clearer.

Match engine is definitely improved, a lot I'd say. Graphically and behind the scenes too. Tactics have changed a lot too. No longer can you specify tactics like before, now they are more like dynamic 'shouts' but I think it works. Will need to test this a lot. I've a feeling this way is better because it doesn't effect your formation/fluidity quite as much as before but time will tell. Training seems to take an age though, longer than before, although that may be down to the fact I have far less coaches than I am used to, even with the best training facilities.

I'm nearly through a season with Rangers - it definitely feels a bit different. It's harder in many ways regards the backroom staff. Scouts can now choose their team just like players - I lost a scout to Leeds even though he accepted my contract. Apparently he rejected other clubs too, so this is handled more like players which is much more realistic. You will have to fight to get the best scouts now. There are a lot more finer contract details too. You need to be careful. I haven't played it with a 'big' team so I don't know how accurate the wages and things are.

But so far, I like it a lot. Definitely worth the upgrade.

After buying myself a Surface 2, it opened up the flood gates and I bought FM2014.

I thought they were going lower than Blue square north/south?

One thing that is bugging me is I have my physio saying certain players need a long rest, however when I look at there condition and fitness its in the 90% zone..........They also have the yellow rest icon next to there name as well.....

The board are disappointed by my lack of high profile signings... but I'm outside of the transfer windo and can't sign anyone!

Yeah graphics are improved, I like the variation on the players such as untucked shirts, wristbands etc along with quite a few new animations. I'm using the zoomed in view (I think it's a TV view) and it's great. I'm actually doing the interviews in this at the moment, the questions/answers are much more varied but it might get stale as the season progresses we'll see.

I found a dark skin although when I had a quick look there were a few bugs with text overlaps etc but I'd rather that than glaringly bright white everywhere - maybe best to wait for a decent one but can look for the link again if anyone wants.

Yes I am seeing this a lot too. It might be a 'beta' feature that will get toned down in the final realise, but it might also point to some new things. Are you using a fluid/high temp attacking tactic? If so, are your players fit? You might need to train them in fitness rather than any other tactic for a while and see if things improve. I like the pie chart screen with all the detailed data. Quite helpful! My first team are 40% attacking and the rest tactical, with a few specialities thrown in for good measure.

If a player is becoming jaded, they are still match fit but are more likely to suffer an injury. When your assi manager or whoever deals with this tells you they need a rest, then I would follow their advice. Send them on holiday for a week or something (the player that is, not the assistant manager) :)

The *******s!

I criticized the board in the press for not improving he clubs youth facilities. I then had to beg for my job and then they demanded 11 points from the next 5 games. And I get the sack if I don't hit the target.

I'm in bloody second place already!

Tried downloading the beta on my parents' internet - remaining time: over one year. Think I'll wait until I get home tomorrow.

I got sacked! I got 9 points instead of 11 (I had a keeper go off injured without a replacement on the bench during one game and duly lost...). During my short 4 month tenure I won 18 out of 26, including knocking out Arsenal and Sunderland in the League Cup, which I was in the quarter finals at this point. I'm sat comfortably second and have just beaten the team in first 3-1 away from home!

I'd have preferred if the game could be a bit more flexible and realistic.

nearly my whole squad needs a rest now  Got training intensity to very low, I using a balanced tactic and constanley rest player for a week. I have un21's and u18's playing atm cos all my players are tired :(

That's amazing! I didn't even know you could do that. I guess you upset the board :D. I'm guessing different boards offer more flexibility. Having said that, I'm playing as Rangers, and have just got them promoted into the Championship. But now they want me to win this, and they haven't given me any transfer budget to do it! Going to be a real struggle I think. My board is as tough as nails too :(
