******* Official Football Manager 14 Thread *******

nearly my whole squad needs a rest now  Got training intensity to very low, I using a balanced tactic and constanley rest player for a week. I have un21's and u18's playing atm cos all my players are tired :(

Yes this happens. Are you able to rotate your squad at all or is it too small? It's just the number of matches separated by rest days. You could try adding rest before/after training?

I had rest days set to before and after matches, squad was fairly small so maybe i little more rotation might have helped. I just got the sack for failing to gain promotion even though I only just lost the play off final on penalties

Had to start a new save unfortunately. Got to March and then realised some annoying differences with the size of the database I was using. I'd decided to use the exact same database configuration I was using for FM 13 but it turned out to be very different. The database in 13 had all players from major geographies but still had enough players from peripheral locations that could make an impact in the game - for example, there had been regents from Jamaica, Costa Rica and Honduras whom had all become world class players, this time round the database had almost zero players from these areas, which is quite limiting.

I ended up reloading with a slightly different database, whereby I removed 'players from top divisions in Asia' and included 'players from top divisions' in China, Japan, South Korea, Australia and then Central America. This reduced the database size from 98,000 to 78,000! Turns out I'd been including 20,000 players from irrelevant countries in the Asian subcontinent :p idiot!

I subsequently signed all the freebies, loanees and staff at the start of the game, whilst also tying up a few contracts and then went on holiday until March. When I checked this morning, I was on virtually the exact same points as I was the first time around - although initially my defence was awesome with a rubbish attack... Unfortunately it's the other way round this time, which means that my star centre back hasn't developed as well as in the initial save.

Real football at home to Colchester now, before the pub and then see if I can fit in 36 hours of play before Monday when I get back tonight!

My Crewe team has been plagued my injury, lost most of my midfielders, so only really had CB's that were fit, so, 5 at the back, 2 wide midfielders with 1 CM, then a CAM and a Striker, seems a good formation and has worked for me, and will only keep it until my players are alive again (lost Aneke, Inman, Osman, Waters)...

Now this I am interested in. Is this a customized database or are you able to choose specifics? My database is large, and I have 75k players to choose from. I've not seen how you can do what you've done.

Anyone playing in the lower leagues? I started with Cambridge in Skrill prem and it just seems too easy every match is a goal fest! I've only lost 1 game in 21 so far with results like 8-0, 6-3, 5-0 and 4-0 quite common. I'm using a fluid 442 with retain possession, play narrow and hassle and it seems unbeatable I haven't changed it whatsoever since the first preseason game. Could understand if I had decent players but they're terrible compared to the better teams in the league, I had no budget to get anyone else in.

I started in skrill premier and it was far from easy lol maybe u are just lucky ;-)

Let us know how the season progresses.

I'm thinking about getting this tonight but I might just hold out until release in case they make any changes to player stats and stuff. :o

If i recall Cambridge are more than half decent. They are predicted to finish quite high aren't they? But those results seem exceptional. Don't knock it :D

Not knocking it, just a little surprised my tactics immediately produced such good results without any tinkering - just seemed too simple now all the sliders are gone I guess. I think they are predicted 9th.

I did just have a little blip, knocked out of FA cup 2-0 then got thrashed 5-3 in the next league game but I'm back on track now with manager, player and goal of the month :D

I find in both this and in 13 if you lose a match you are far less likely to win the next. It normally takes two to get back on track.

By the way, sortitoutsi has new mods for 14. I'm trying the beta realnames fix. Works a treat! Champions and Europa league and all that jazz. Plus new face and logo packs.

Got a link for those bud?

Hope someone can give me some advise.

I have a good scout with potential and current ability at 12 (which is good for skrill premier). The scout report comes back with 4/5 stars current ability and a must buy recommendation.

However when the player arrives he only has 2 stars........am I missing something?

At the start of the game you obviously have the opportunity to decide upon the size of the database. I always customize it as it opens up the game as the save progresses. Once you're ten seasons in, it's great to have a bit of diversity to the regens coming through.

This could depend on who is doing the recommendation. If you're scout has 12 for PA and CA but the coach who is rating the player (when he's your player) has 5 for PA and CA then his ability to judge how good the player is is flawed. It's always a good idea to have a member of your coaching staff to have as strong PA and CA attributes regardless of their coaching ability in order to give accurate reports on your own players.
