******* Official Football Manager 14 Thread *******

I think it might be the 3d side of things killing my game too. It doesn't happen unless I switch back to the desktop however, which also suggests that it might be something to do with the Nvidia/hybrid card I have in this laptop and/or drivers. I can live with it on the balanced mode which is more than capable.

My laptop (HP Elitebook 8440p - Core i7) gets super hot when watching matches in 3D. I'll turn the heating off next winter and we can take turns to cuddle it!

You can limit the FPS in the preferences, which ought to help a little (unless you've already got on the minimum of course!)

For such a basic 3D system it doesn't half stress a PC. Even on a powerful desktop the fans ramp up in 3D mode.

Is there still an option when watching a match in 3D, that when a player has the ball a little box in the bottom corner of the screen shows his name and also his current fitness level, I know it was on older FM's but can't see it on FM14?

Don't think so. There is a pop-up screen that will appear every so often and can display different information. I have it on the morale or body language setting and you can set it to show either your team or the opponent's team. It will show the players' names, their rating, percentage fitness and maybe some other things to. :D

Indeed. The theme I'm using (Nuu Rebooted) has it run almost full-screen between highlights displaying all sorts of stats. In the example below I tend to show the body language for both teams, but here I am showing the Liverpool stats page just to demonstrate it. When it cuts to a highlight the screen disappears and you can make out the smaller panels underneath (showing Liverpool stats, including fitness).

And no, I'm not playing Luke Shaw left wing and John Flanagan up front - I just loaded the game, removed unavailable players and slotted in two free available ones for this thread. :p

One of my scouts sends me reports on Ryan Gauld EVERY month. I see you signed him. What is he like? Worth getting to shut the scout up? :p

He's not reached his potential yet (he's still 20), but I'm yet to see anything special yet. He's fine in either the left wing or AMC (though he doesn't get much time there seeing as I have both Coutinho and James Rodriguez (£15m :D).

He is comfortable in centre midfield though, which is something I like in a player - versatility. I don't like playing centre midfielders wide (like Henderson was used by Dalglish and Hodgson), but I've no issue with using a wide midfielder in the middle if they're OK at it.

I wouldn't say he has a real character or trait yet, but it's still early for him and whatever happens I should see a return on the £6.5m I paid for him. At worst he'll end up as a good squad player to have.

One player who has surprised me is Tom Ince. His stats don't really do any awful lot, but he's a fantastic backup player (contract expires end of 1st season and I payed the £1.2m to Blackpool). Last season he finished with an average of 7.56.

Mine too, nearly actually did sign him but I got Bakkali instead, definitely glad I did. Fulham singed him in the end and I think he had an alright season.

Signed him for Utd over the summer for £4.1m. He's had a decent start to the season but nothing brilliant. I bought him as he would add to the homegrown numbers and to be a backup winger. He's averaging 6.80 and 7.00 over his last 5 games. What role do you use him in when playing him on the wing? Any special instructions or settings?

He'll be a bit difficult to buy in FM15 having signed for Sporting CP. I wonder if he'll be the next wonderkid of football that FM predicted. Not that Freddy Adu worked out! :D

My laptop gets ridiculously hot playing FM too. In fact, it overheated and died when I was saving which wiped my 4 year game out. I've been happier.

Inside forward support. No special instructions.

Left is the natural, but it generally depends on whether I'm playing Sterling and whether I want to play with the inside forwards coming onto their stronger foot or whether I want to stretch play, and that depends on the strength of the opposition and their likely formation (they play narrow, I play narrow (unless they're very weak)).

Wow that's awful mate. I've not lost a save recently due to crashes but it has happened once. But the crashes have stopped completely since I changed the power plan and now I can switch to and fro between the game and the desktop. It's disconcerting that this is a problem.

Where can I check if a player is formed at my club, as the Champions League registration is saying a minimum of 4 players needed but I can't see who is and who isn't, I can only see the HG icon?

Go to your Squad page, or press F3. Then change the drop-down to Home-Grown Status, which you should find top left, below the club bar. This will then tell you the home-grown status of your players. The two options are "Trained at club (15-21)" and "Trained in nation (15-21)". There's also a due date when a player will receive home-grown status and which kind it'll be, i.e. club or nation.

Ah got it, thanks :)

I had seen that screen earlier this evening, but didn't notice one player was listed as club under home grown, so thanks, I now have the info I need :)

First season with Man City and I only have 1 player listed as 'Trained at Club' which means I can't progress past the Champions League registration screen unless I field a load of young rubbish players! (and stupidly, I loaned out the only decent youngsters (in the under 21's squad) as they needed game experience!) :p

You can leave empty spaces (i.e. register 3 players less than the limit)
