******* Official Football Manager 14 Thread *******

Thanks Malt, I thought I tried that and it didn't work, but it was late and I was very tired, so I'll give it another go later on :)
My league squad has 24 registered players, 3 of whom I think don't need to be registered as they are U21s. I'm thinking about bringing back one of my three on loan strikers to help cover my three club strikers.

Here are some Portsmouth updates.

Here is how I finished last season.

I'm quite happy with how it happened. I managed to change my form, as I was doing terrible in the first half of the season. Slipped near the end and dropped from 8th to 11th. Still a very positive season for me considering my wage per annum was lowest of the league (nearly half of the 19th placed team).

Now I invested some money. 12.71M spent (including 1.2M on 16 year olds) and I sold 11.16M. Some of the signings are great (4*+ potential). My main signing (Goncalves) I got for 6.5M from relegated Crawley. They bought him from Stade Reims just 1 season before for 10M. (Crawley were taken over and they had a lot of money btw). he only scored 1 goal till now, but it was in the Capital One Cup game against City (last game btw).

Here is the league table

And here are my playeers and their stats. You can notice some players like Guido Vadala (someone had bought him in this thread. Great player)

So I had my best comeback of my FM career last night. I played Benfica away having beaten them 3-0 at home in the previous Champions League fixture. I led the group on 9 points from Benfica on 4 points.

Rafael got a yellow card after 23 minutes and when he made a bad tackle on 32 minutes I knew he was off. I had to go to a 3 man defence and use Phil Jones as a DR, Evans as a DC on his own and Shaw at DL.

Mata had scored to give us the lead on 22 minutes but Benfica equalised just 5 minutes later to prove that it was going to be harder to win this game than I had hoped. Rafael's sending off 5 minutes after it became 1-1 meant I knew I was going to be lucky to get a point. Predictably just 12 minutes after we went down to 10 men Benfica scored to take the lead. It was now an up hill struggle to get anything from this game. At half-time I moved Bender and Romero from their usual MC positions to DMC to give me two men immediately in front of my three man defence. Things started to tighten up then and Benfica found it harder to use their man advantage.

Completely against the run of play, Luke Shaw scored after 65 minutes to make it 2-2. A point? A man down? Yeah, I'll take that. Being a bit cocky and a bit desperate I changed the instructions from counter/standard to control and then attacking to see if I could get a third goal and three points. By now I'd replaced Mata with Will Hughes at MC and Rooney on for Welbeck.

90 minutes came round with the score still 2-2. A point would be very nice I thought and thought that the 2 minutes extra time would be useless. Somehow Rooney scored a tap in in the 94th minute to give us the lead for the first time since the 22nd minute and almost no time for Benfica to kick off let alone have a chance of scoring! So despite having 10 men for almost two third's of the match we somehow went home with a 3-2 victory to all but give me the group win.

This is by far the best comeback I've ever managed. OK, it didn't win me the Champions League itself or a Premier League title but still.

I've attached a shot of the match in a spoiler because I can't be bothered to resize it. :D

So after 5 seasons at Northampton Town going from league 2 to the championship, I got tired of never having any money, having to sell my best players , and not being able to meet the wage demands of the players to better my squad..

So I started a new save with Chelsea :-)

First 2 signings
Khedira from R.Madrid for 10.75m
Shaqiri from B.Munich for 19.75m

So nice having some cash to splash for a change !!
Who to go for next??

It is nice to have a change around with teams but it is so much more of a challenge in the lowest leagues. I've managed to get Bath into the Premier League and am only just starting to make some real money. Fortunately I've managed to find some quality frees and my best striker whom is likely to work out world class was only £3 million. Bargain!!

Seems strange, last year the youtube blogs were well underway in August. I can't remember where I read it (reddit maybe?) but a while back they posted somewhere asking for games testers with experience of FM Live - revamp of multiplayer maybe? No idea why they don't coincide it with the start of the season in real life.

Perhaps a few new features that have been more troublesome to get right than expected?

As far as I'm aware, they never have. FM has always been released no earlier than October. It gives them time to get the summer transfers sorted and correct.

Yeah, FM always wants to be after the transfer window and then it takes time.
Otherwise you get Fifa 14 where in the normal player mode you've got Bale playing for Spurs still.

Indeed. The researchers need to get the data for their clubs and then check it over I guess. This then needs to be passed onto SI who will then check it themselves before testing it and looking for any bugs. Any competition changes in any league/cup/competition needs to be updated.

I wonder if the announcement from the Premier League that the vanishing spray will be used is something that SI will need time to get the animations made, tested and debugged?

It's interesting that there is going to be no details or any discussion on FM15 until October.

For as long as I can remember, and I have been playing right since the very first CM, we have always had some kind of announcement by the end of August on major overhauls to the game and an estimated release date (which is usually before Christmas). Then various feature teasers, on almost a daily basis, from Miles.

So, not sure if this is a good thing, or that, like a lot of games seem to be lately, something major is causing them issue's and they don't want anything said about it at the moment.

I highly doubt it will be featured at all to be honest. It's not needed and players don't encroach in FM at all, so it would be a unnecessary extra which wouldn't add anything to the game. It wouldn't even add to the immersion of the game, only slow things down when you don't view a full match (which few will do).

Judging from the tweet, to me it merely suggests the official announcement and finalised features will be in October, and doesn't rule out a normal early November release date.

I hope they do overhaul things though - sure it will be buggy, but it would be worth it in the end. For me, the match engine needs an overhaul - I empathised more with it when the 2D and 3D engines were introduced, but now it's more difficult to identify players based purely on their playing style.

Either something has gone wrong or they are adding lots of new features. I was thinking they might be doing a PS4/XBoxOne version of the game but I can't see why they would.

If the game isn't out before Christmas, that's bad news for SI as it means people will want the January transfer window updates very soon after the release date. SI use the January transfer window update to release pretty much the last patch for an FM game. Problem is, as with the beginning of the season/summer transfer updates, that the patch isn't out much before the end of February to give SI time to test and patch any issues in either the bug fixes or the new data updates.

I agree that the tweet doesn't prevent a normal release date but why the very late announcement in October? I guess we'll find out in October! :p
