******* Official Football Manager 14 Thread *******

I must be missing something obvious - I can't even find the option to bring it up!

If you click on a player's profile, then click on transfer, right at the bottom of the drop down options is the option 'Encourage Agent Ownership'. Basically you can ask the agent to buy a % of the player from their current club, anything from 5%-80%.

However, you can't seem to do it for any players from England/UK.

Yep ^, it is banned in most leagues. Pretty much only Italy and a few South American countries where it is accepted. Possibly Russia too, iirc.

Just hit the first big snag in agents. End of the first season with Southampton and I've sold Ramirez to Man City for £26m and Osvaldo to Real Madrid for £10m, so at 100% of transfer fees into the budget and £21m given to me by the board, I have a ton of money.

£12.5m goes on Oxlade-Chamberlain, with £5m up front and £7.5m over 48 months. Then I try to buy Bernard from Shakhtar, and manage to agree a fee of £24m, of which £10m is up front. Great. But then his sodding agent, who owns 30% of his playing rights, demands £10.75m for his stake! If I don't pay I can't buy him.

So...is Bernard worth £35m?

I have started to snap up as much youth talent as possible though. This kid cost me £5.5m, but I reckon he could probably do a job in the EPL already!

I wouldn't say £35m for Bernard, no. Can get better or similar in that position for less and they may also have the potential to grow more. Teams with only 2-3 really good players will try charge you far more than they're worth, obviously.

Yeah, I was quite happy at £24m as he was rated at four and a half star for CA but "Can improve significantly" for PA, and my rating system is set quite high I imagine. £35m is a hell of a lot for a team that finished 14th last year! Found Alejandro Gomez at Metalist who's worth £8m, and have agreed £13m for him, so think that's the direction I'm going to go down.

Yeah, I definitely prefer the tactic of spreading the money over 3-4 decent to good players that have high PA than spending big on older, more established players. And you're Southampton, so buy a ton of youths as their training is top notch.

As long as your board arent pushing for a top 6, I'd say grow your team and focus on long term development!

Yeah, these are the youngsters I've got so far. Thomas Nunn came through my youth team, whereas the others have been bought for a total of less than a million - although the Argentine joins next year for £3.9m.

All rated at 5 stars PA. I've quite literally done no work today...

Not bad, the Argentine looks promising if trained/loaned correctly. I don't know what it is, but FM always produces ridiculously cheap and good Argentine regens. River and Velez, think I buy 4 players from each every time they get a youth intake xD

How exactly does PA work?

When in the Skrill Premier my scouts often come back with a PA of 5 stars for free transfers, is the star rating based on the division I'm in when they are scouted as It cant be a global rating? Seems weird that free transfer are coming back with 5 star potential at all....

CA/PA is largely based upon the league you're in and how that specific player is judged in comparison to your players and the respective division you occupy.

So for example, if you're in the Skrill Premier and you've found a player from League Two who's willing to join you, and he's got 4 star CA but 5 star PA, those stars will likely decrease as your team improves and as you get promoted. If you get promoted that season and find yourself in League Two, then that particular player's star rating may have dropped by one or two levels.

Also, as mentioned in a previous post, it's always a good idea to have a member of your coaching staff with strong CA/PA judging attributes as the coaches, not the scouts, will subsequently rate the player once they've joined your team.

The star rating is related to how good they will be for your club. For example the 5 star free transfer could be on of your star players, but for a prem team they would be nowhere near the team so would have a lower star rating.

Does anyone know how to assign scouts in 14? Not sure if I am missing something. I had initially set my chief scout to assign scouts, but now want to take control of them myself. When I go to assign a scout I can only assign them to a competition, I can't send them to a specific country or region (the option is grey'd out).
