what i cant understand is
if its made by the same people who made dirt2 a dx 11 game, they have had all this time to make it and perfect it, yet they release it in dx9 ? with a supposed dx11 update due, whys that ?

It might have been released by Codemasters, but afaik it was their new Birmingham studio that did F1 2010.

Dirt 2 was done by a completely different team altogether, which I think included people from the Sega Racing Studio that Codemasters bought out.

Just posted a 1.18.8 at Montreal. It's the only circuit I know my way around so far and was quite pleased with that. I only part know Silverstone, Spa, Monza, Brazil and know nothing of the other tracks. Love this game.

My settings are 1920x1080 all settings on ULTRA or High where the options don't go to Ultra. 8XQMASS gets me FPS 55-60

V-SYNC is on

Spec in sig

Loved the game until I got bitten by the pitstop bug TWICE in Five races. Starting to hate it now

Also, the Titanic never sank.... allegedly

;)

To be fair, the 23 page thread on CM's forums makes fairly damning reading regarding the cars on track being unlinked to the times on the timesheet. Just there for show and effect.

CM have also basically admitted that the qualifying times ARE just made up, the cars on track aren't setting the qualifying times.

"Love the game, but 1 question;why don't you use real times in quali and practice? I caught Webber on track, but his time was faster?!"
"Because we couldn't make them compete in Qualy this time out :( Looking to sort that though"

If they've done it with that, why does it seem so far fetched they would do it in races too?

I'm I the only one that has never had a pit stop issue? I've come in at the same time as half the field, yet I never lose a million places like all the horror stories suggest I should :|

I've not had issues with pit release but I have been bitten by the bug that means other cars just don't pit at all and so I lose 3 or 4 places by the end of the race.

Thing is, every in the thread comes across as a bunch of crazies. There's no logic behind the accusations. The first lap times are bugged, they're bugged in MP as well as I said previously.

Other than that, I've seen no other information that could suggest there is no cars on track.

EDIT: Definitely had issues with AI pitting, but that's a different issue... on the long list of issues

Well, i'm trying to figure out a foolproof way to test the AI times, not sure what to try at the moment though. Currently though, I think there is more evidence leaning on the side of the cars just being there for show than there is otherwise.

I don't get all the furore about this. It really doesn't bother me in qualifying, why does it really matter?

The games a complete joke!! last race I was third, came in for my pitstop and ended up 24th!! No other cars overtook me  The answer is because no other cars pitted :eek:

because apparently it's the same for races. The cars aren't really there, they are just thrown on the track when you get close to them so you have something to go around. The lap times are completely made up aren't linked to the actual car in anyway.

Atleast that's what the crazies say.

There's no reason for them to go through the hassle of this when the AI cars drive at a reasonable pace and obviously fight each other for positions. People just want to moan and things. I can understand why the AI in qualy is just for show, to stop you being able to block them/them blocking each other because they're not smart enough to find gaps. You'd constantly end up with a HRT in Q2 because he was holding up the entire field :D

For those who have played rFactor...can I ask if that game is better than this, if the 2009 F1 season mods were applied?
.

Yep. It's much better. You NEED a wheel for it, and the only way to play it is without all the aids. ;) (Many of the teams use a slightly more open version to sim their cars; just have higher resolution physics and faster physics calculation rates. And of course they have much better tyre data than the modding teams!)

You can actually catch slides in rFactor and you have to fight the car much harder for the last few %'s of pace. The only problem is a lot of the latest mods have a very twitchty tyre model that means many of the mods are too slippery at low speeds (F109RL, F12010MG, MMG07, FsONE09) but CTDP2006 is great. My favourites are the F179 mod, and the 1999WCP mod. The 79 is great fun sliding in the car and the 1999 probably feels the best of the modern downforce cars. The best tyre model I've played is the FSR2010 mod. YOu can catch the car, but you have to fight the car. Get it wrong and you'll loose time, thats the best Post-2000 mod.

For real simming though try either iRacing (expensive) or netKar (unpopulated servers). netKar feels amazing close to my occasional experience of FF1600s an I've been told that trend continues through the other cars. It's rumored netkar is used by three or four teams on the grid using essentially the off the shelf package and plugging in their own data. The company making the game also supply a lot of the other lower formula teams too.

If enough people were interested a netKar server running formula Renaults or F3 cars would be great fun. If we could orgainise it to weekend based meets or something; otherwise it can be hard to find a good race.

I'll be keeping an eye on T4RG4's twitter feed, as he has no doubt been asked about this a lot - it will be interesting to see the response they give regarding race timings.
