just wait for the patch before saying it's rubbish/crap/fake.

nobody knows what the patch will bring/change...

The patch will sort out some of the more glaring problems. Earlier in this thread there is an excerpt taken from codemaster's post.

Basically, they will look to sort out some of the obvious problems, but fundamentally, the game will play the same.

Personally, I have not suffered from the pit stop bug (I always pit, very very late). I have not suffered from punctures (though I don't use tyre simulation). But I have suffered from the save game bug.

For me, the patch won't really make much difference.

We shall just have to wait and see what F1 2011 will offer.

The fact that the physics engine doesn't work when fast-forwarded in qualifying may have something to do with the fact that it is a console port. perhaps consoles don't have the raw processing power to over speed time, through the qualifying sessions?

The fact that the graphics are not what one would expect from a game released in 2010 on PC, is totally related to it being a port.

The physics engine could absolutely be made to work at 10x, 20x, 30x (or a particular speed) during qualifying. The problem is that major modifications and extra code needs to be written. Time is obviously not what codemasters had available, hence they chose the faster/easy option. More likely this was a business decision than a design one. A bleeding edge PC would definitely be able to handle the processing required to simulate 23 other cars on the track, faster than real-time...not sure about consoles though.

The overall look of the game, is not a major step forward over F1 games released a few years ago. This in itself has to be a clue that this game was developed for consoles (first and foremost). I doubt many changes were made during the porting process, from xbox to PC.

Who knows, maybe F1 2011 may give PC users "more" than xbox users.

The game was released in late Sept 2010. The F1 season is reaching its climax, so its fairly obvious that there was pressure to get the game released, in any shape or form, before the current F1 season ended. Had they released the game in 3 months, say, sales of the game would've been lower as the current F1 season would've been finished.

I don't think the qualifying AI restriction is a console thing at all, I think it's Codemasters not being able to manage it. They explained in a reasonable amount of depth why, so it may interest you to go and read what they had to say about it.

Graphics wise I just don't agree - it looks great here, I have absolutely no issues with the graphical ability of the game.

I have no doubts it was rushed, the number of bugs are proof of that but I really don't see anything that suggests this is a console port in the same manner that other games are, leaving in XBox control prompts etc.

The only 'fundamental' issue I have with the game that I don't see getting fixed is this qualifying AI business. That however, isn't a total game breaker for me - an annoyance, sure - in qualifying though, i'm just trying to do the fastest lap I can, it doesn't make a huge amount of difference whether an on track or off track AI determined the times I have to compete with, the only issue it really causes is when you're when following someone and the laptimes are way off which obviously spoils the immersion somewhat.

For any hardware sound x-fi users experiencing issues with the game freezing when loading between sessions, I have found a temporary fix is to switch your speaker settings to 2 speaker or listen through headphones (my preferred option, cmss-3d disabled). I have no idea why this works for me it just does, hope it helps some people if it hasn't been posted already. I'm running 5850s in crossfire with the 10.9 drivers and app profile installed too, no crashes in 5 full race weekends and counting!

Grid and Dirt 2 were cross platform and on the same engine, yet there was nothing wrong with the graphics in those games, or the framerate which didn't require the sort of hardware that F1 2010 seems to require.

Nothing wrong with the graphics or framerate on my PC, I must be one of the lucky ones. Looks lovely and runs silky smooth. In fact it looks and runs about the same as DiRT 2 did, except without the yellow tint to everything.

If it had a sane price tag I'd be happy to see how it runs for me :p

Smacks of price gouging because they want to recoup the outlay for the F1 licence.

I'd add my voice in recommending the lighting mod for this game, not the enbseries one which kills frames, but the other which was posted by someone else earlier. First thing I thought when I played this is wtf is going on with the colour? Maybe its the drivers they worked with like Ant who said it made it more realistic? Perhaps in relation to visor tint I'm not sure? I just want it to look like TV :D Bring on the DX11 patch!

I take it the game still isn't available boxed then? Glad I got mine preordered for £22. I can't believe steam charges £30 for it why? In fact why are most game more expensive from steam? Surely they should be cheaper!?

Publishers set the prices on Steam. The game isn't available boxed to my knowledge, at least not for under Steam's price.

Codemasters games upon release would usually be found for around £17.99 on day one at a number of well known retailers.

They obviously think this is a good strategy for them as they get more per copy, but they ought to realise they will sell a lot less copies as many PC gamers baulk at paying £30, a similar price to console games. (For the same reason, I have yet to buy MW2 until its price is far more realistic.)

Maybe Codemasters haven't noticed the economic situation in the world, how do they think they can justify this price. No way.

...leaving in XBox control prompts etc...

Disagree on that one, if playing on a wheel, you just map the various buttons (in my case, using the logitech configuration utility), the only time I touch the keyboard when playing is to enter a name when saving a setup.

As far as the AI goes, it's a darn site better than the AI on titles like rFactor IMHO.

My one gripe is not being able to do proper sim stuff like full control during pitting and driving to the grid on race day (as well as a warmup lap).

Re the Xbox control prompts, if Kenai means references to the 360 pad then I have no problem with that, in fact I welcome it, if you are using the 360 pad at the time. Playing NFS Shift for example, which doesn't show the 360 buttons, it just says press button 1 or button 2 etc. which isn't very helpful.

This is a list of most people who have posted in the F1 Race night thread and that I have added to my GFWL list.

Yes I do, but in games that ONLY have those, even if you don't own a 360 controller, nevermind use one. That's what i'd consider signs of a console port, rather than just a slightly buggy game. There is a great recent example of this but i'll be damned if I can remember the name of it :(

One full race weekend completed.

Load up game for second GP, corrupt save.

Restart a new game.

Pit lane assists on and get a penalty for speeding in the pit lane?

Qualified 8th in Lotus on expert with legend AI all driving assists off?

Got upto 2nd in the race in a Lotus, pulling away from every car I overtook, before pitlane speeding penalty.

Single player is broken.

Going to stick to online and time trials until they fix it, so that's probably forever.

Pit lane assists only operate the pit limiter and steering, you still have to operate the brake and throttle, and slow down for the pit in line.

True. Games which detect your controller and change the prompts are the best.
