It is very likely this game on the whole is going to be a "release and done" affair meaning patches will be few and far between and any released will be to address critical bugs and not add new features or modify the game engine.

They have already said that a DX11 patch will be coming out, so it doesn't look like they are just forgetting about the game.

Not having complete control of the car in the pit lane is an annoyance.

I don't see the big deal with this, you still have to get the pit limiter on and stop at the right time, being able to steer the car would add pretty much nothing to the experience, but would add loads of problems (running over pit crew, for example).

Look at the post release support most Codemasters titles receive, most receive little, some receive none.

Codemasters are far from this "beacon of light" in the gaming industry.

Forgive me for being stupid but I thought I would be playing a game where the main point was to DRIVE THE CAR.

Taking away the driving at ANY POINT seems more than stupid.

Why do people get so defensive in the week leading up to any release? I'm quite looking forward to this now, but we should absolutely pick apart any issues we see, what else is there to do?

I understand the excitement, but to put it into context, this is merely a game which is being released.

What we are seeing here is people criticize the game before it has even been released.

Would we slate a film before having even watched it? No.
Would he criticize the taste of a meal, before eating it? No.

So why are people criticising the game before it has even been released?

Consider that for the PC, we will be getting plenty of mods and patches, which will definitely bring the game up to our expectations. This is almost a certainty. On its release, the game may be a little short of our expectations, but give it 2 months and any problems will be definitely be sorted out.

This game will definitely become the standard by which all F1 games are judged, if only because the last F1 game to be released was such a long time ago.

Yes, if the trailer looked goofy or contained errors.

Yes, if it looked like ****.

IF the engine is flawed, the best modders in the world may struggle, there is only soo much mods can do.

Also, you are assuming the game will be mod friendly, will it be as easy as F1 Challenge? I doubt it.

That point being? This will set the standard because it is the last licensed F1 game on the PC in over 8 years? Doesnt say much, if it falls short of F1 Challenge then that is VERY bad.

Also, it depends how high your standards are.

The thing is, nobody is "slating it". Personally my concerns are AI and the damage model. I'm concerned about them because I have seen some pretty dodgy videos demonstrating them. It's not like we know nothing about the game, we know enough to start making predictions. That's all it is.

By this 'it's not out therefore we cannot slate it' rule surely we can't hype it either? If we're not allowed to think something looks off, we certainly can't presume it will be any good. In which case, why is the thread even still open?

There are a plethora of gameplay vids out now, now more than ever before in the games development it is time to start making predictions. personally, I'm sold, but concerned about aspects of the game.

Edit: CM have also said that modding is totally unsuported. This doesn't mean there won't be any, they just aren't going to change all that much really.

Spot on Lyon85.

damage looks terrible from what we've seen. AI looks far to twitchy, doing twitches that should send them off the track. But i researve judgement untill after i get the game.

oh and shopto, do they send you a order confirmation? I got nothing when i ordered mine.

edit: blimey i just went to my account and i had orderd it 3 times apparently!?!?! hmm

I'm not sure if its just the people playing but those upshifts seem off to me, and as been said, they seem to take too long, it looks like the car is jerking on the upshift. I've seen it on quite a few videos and even by people who I consider pretty good at the game, obviously know there lines, braking points etc. Yet are completing mucking up the gear change :S

Yes, you are driving a car you condescending ****, they have explained why you cannot drive down the pitlane, what difference does it really make to the game experience if you cannot drive the car for 10 seconds while it's in the pits? Its not like its major, all you would do is turn into the pit box, and turn out. Hardly the most exciting thing in the world, and hardly 'driving' on the limit. If you feel so strongly, don't buy the game. Easy.

getting the pit stop right can make or break a drivers race in F1, so removing that variable is removing a big part of the F1 driver experience IMO.

But it is up to you to get the pit stop right, you still have to slow down at pit entry, get the pit limiter on, brake into your pit box, accelerate out and take the limiter off at the end of the pit. You can even run over your Jack man. It's hardly a big part of the experience that's removed.

Are you really that gutted that you can't knock over a few pit crews? Is that the problem?

AI: you will be playing the game in less than week. By which time you will be able to see first hand, just how good/bad the AI are. I wouldn't trust 100% anything which I see in a video. I would trust user reviews more than anything, however, as the game hasnt been released no users can review the game yet.

Damage Model: most people who have played the game have all commented that the cars are not fragile. This means that your car won't get easily (realistically) damaged.

Edit: CM have also said that modding is totally unsuported.

That won't stop fans from developing techniques to apply all sorts of mods. I don't think I've ever played an F1 game on a PC, which didn't have any mods available. If this game doesnt have any mods, then this will probably be the first F1 game in history which prevented mods.

With regards to mods, take what Codemasters say, with a massive pinch of salt. Codemasters say no mods, I saw minor mods available within 14 days of release and major mods available within a couple of months.

To be fair, there have been people slating this game since before the existance of this thread. Guess they have been offended by it in some personal way

I can't wait for the game! Glad the licence is in good hands again. It has been too long since we have had an authentic F1 game on the PC.

Yes, you are driving a car you condescending ****,

:D

**** = Plank?

Blimey dude, rage much? :) Do you do the same in public or only when your sat behind a keyboard?

In Multiplayer races in other racing games, I have seen drivers forget to put on the speed limiter when going into the pits then slam on the brakes, lose control then smash into the wall and end their race, sure, it doesnt happen too often but if it is such a minor thing, why did they not include it?

Personally, I think it would just add another element to the pit stop. Automating it makes no sense.

It does seem that some of the sim racers just moan! :p To me it looks like it will be awesome and the f1 game I have been waiting for for a long time. It's their first try at the franchise so yes, there will be things to improve but it looks a hell of a lot better than 99% of racing games out there.

Exactly, if Grid (I'm getting used to it and like it now!) and Dirt are anything to go by, this game should be top notch.
