Not sure I can explain amazingly well, but if timed correctly (i.e. not too quickly to simply lock all your wheels) then you can just bounce down the rev limiter of each gear - in practise this is much quicker than only using the brake pedal. Some users here have it hugely perfected and it can knock a good second of your best time. In real life engine braking like this would be nowhere near as effective, plus your engine would blow up - imagine changing from 5th on the motorway to 1st/2nd within a couple of seconds!

Well it's just come second nature to me because i drive a lot in a sim game (LFS, lets just say i have clocked up 163395 Miles driving online) so it's just something i have pick up over time so i really doubt that it's an exploit just because some people haven't managed to pick up how do it well enough to use it to there advantage.

Absolutely not having a go mate :) - just personally not a fan of it.

There are some good examples in videos posted in the time trial thread.

1 Second does seem to be a huge advantage, but the way you explained it, it seems its more of a driver skill than bug or exploit unlike going 11/11 which requires no skill at all. I bet some people are actually doing it without even realising it.

Edit: I did say I was going to be on tonight, but have realised I need to pick up the gf from uni at 8 :( - I might drive back F1 style though, so who knows :p

Sorry I'm not being rude but that's how it works in real life, using the brake alone, is slow, like mike I've played years of LFS and the second I get the g25 out. Ill switch to manual and ill be slamming it down through the box to engine match each down shift.

I haven't been able to try this yet as i play automatic, still yet to play f1 2011 on the wheel just use the pad. I did some f1 2010 on the wheel, and found in manual to be much faster if i got the shifts correct.

Every game I have ever played, If you get the down shifts right your faster on manual in a breaking zone, its the same in a race car, you can gain quite a chunk in each breaking zone if you go down the box correctly. I'd never call engine breaking an hack exploit or moan about it, its part of motor racing. Unless im missing the point here.

Its just the same as saying anyone who uses traction control is a cheat or using an exploit as they can get the power down much faster and easier than people who don't.:D

Difference is that people who do this mostly use the gears, rather than the brake. (listen to the difference on board an F1 car vs videos of people doing this - slightly different sounds obviously, but you get the idea).

On the same level as TC imo, but it annoys me when people then complain about TC!

Anyways, don't have a huge point to make :p

Also, I in no way want to ditract away from how quick some of these guys are - even if you account for the time saved in the braking zones, these guys are still as quick as those of us with assists on.

Hi,

Just a quick question about what gamepad to use with windows. I currently use a logitech rumblepad 2 but find I can't feather the throttle like I could on the PS3 version of f12010 & constantly spin off because of this. Wanting to join a few races but I need traction control to race atm. Is the xbox controller my best option?
Sorry if this is in the wrong place.

cheers

Will

Do you get 100% throttle at around 50-60% press? If so, the 360 controller won't help you. It's practically unplayable without TC.

You guys been playing much this week? Sorry I haven't been around, currently on a construction course, and I'm dead by the time I get home :D

Don't think we have played at all last few days, maybe we should get some 50% races going tomorrow or at least over the weekend. Have new cpu/mobo/ram coming tomorrow so want to give it a good blast.
