***Official GTX 670 thread***

Case is CM ATCS840 1x230 in, 3x120 out and my room temp 20 C.

You've got better cooling and your ambient is 3.5c less which makes a difference, I'm only 6c over yours in hotter room and case.

Think I'm going to mod a 120mm fan in the side of the case, that should keep it under 80c, I've got the summer temps to think about yet.

This just doesnt sound right :(

The KFA2 is better than the Asus then.

What are your heaven temps? Surely Diablo 3 cant be any higher than heaven.

When I ran heaven earlier my room was only 20c, which makes sense as I was getting 77c in heaven, just ran heaven again three times and on the third time it hit 80c, ambient room temps makes a big difference, not everybody takes them into consideration.

Also Diablo 3 is very heavily gpu intensive which is odd for a simple looking game, even on the basic title screen it uses about 80% gpu usage, in game it was reaching high 90's on gpu usage, it hardly uses any cpu power, scrolling my web browser actually uses more cpu cycles than Diablo 3 lol

Typical terrible Blizzard coding ;)

Even more glad I cancelled my pre order now lol.

Results on the phantom will be interesting to see, 1006 Mhz base clock, nice cooler, reference PCB, but very expensive.

It's only a couple of quid more than the gigabyte windforce and cheaper than the asus directcu ii. More expensive than stock though to be fair. I can see the 2.5/triple slot cooler putting people off though.

It might have been a non-retail evaluation unit on the techspot review of the phantom but the pcb is *slightly* different from reference. Some different components here and there but most noticable is that *all* the ram chips are on the gpu side, rather than on both sides that the reference pcb has. Will this help any, who knows? Might help in keeping them cool if that's a problem. Makes me think you won't see a 4gb version of this card; they'd have to use greater capacity ram (if they're available) or use the 680's pcb.

I'll let you know how 2 of them perform.

Its a cheap reference PCB though, cant really compare it to the Gigabyte or Asus. The extra cost on the Phantom is all for the cooler alone.

slightly confused with the techspot review of the phantom, they say "four 64-bit controllers (256-bit) with 2GB of GDDR5". i thought they are the 'black squares' around the gpu of which i count 8 so i guess these are just the memory modules and the controllers are something else?

also is 1110/1727 -> 'base clock'/boost

No, the 1110 is the advertised boost, the actual boost should be 1215 Mhz with a 1006 base clock.

1727 is the ram frequency.

The black squares around the GPU are the memory chips, not the memory controller.

I hate all of you people going on and on about your new "shiney" "shiney"!!!!!!! Youve made me upgrade! 670 windforce ordered ;)). Do you think i'll see much of a difference from my trusty 8800 gts (640) ;))

No you wont .... you should keep your 8800 gts and send your GTX 670 to me! :p

Just got my MSI 670 OC and all I can say is meh, its pretty good. Noise levels are on the good side of every other reference card EVER made.

Temps 79c at 55% fan which is normal, max boost clock I can set appears to be 1200mhz.

this is the kind of info I've been looking for - actual end user results
at 55% fan, how would you say the noise is?
barely audible, audible but not annoying, or noisy and you'd need headphones to want to play games?

is the 1200 at 79C or does it drop down below 1200 when you hit 70C?

You must not be that sensitive to sound because I currently have the same card and it's much more annoying than the 5870 it replaced at idle and at 55% fan the sound is just horrible, it's a mechanical whirring which just grates on me. Wouldn't mind if it was a whoosh but it's not.

Gfx are a bit basic but Diablo 3 @ max settings @ 1080p 120Hz uses only 50% GPU on my PC and runs 120+FPS all the time.

thanks!

Its just normal, definitely quieter than the ref 6970 that it replaced and that wasn't overly loud either. If you were after silence then yes you may find it audible, but you shouldn't be buying reference cards either.

Forget about the 70c-80c thing, this card is tuned to hit 80c where it will lower the voltage slightly so the fan runs at a slightly slower RPM thus is quieter. The max overclock you want to look for is the one when its running at this state, so mine runs at 1190-1200mhz when looping Heaven at 80c. Whilst running BF3 with a slightly lower GPU usage and lower temps it runs at about 1220mhz. Any higher it will crash.

As for Windforce owners, mine one is arriving tomorrow. Are just using afterburner to oc your one?

I'm sticking with EVGA Precision X 3.02 at the moment, have tried AB, GPU Tweak amongst others and PX has the better user interface IMO. All tools give the same results too, NVinspector is decent but doesn't have any OSD features.

Surely that won't work unless you only clamp the live wire?

Very true, to be honest I very rarely use it on 230v setups, more for seeing how much manufacturers think they can defy ohms law on 110v equipment to claim a 16a plug is safe :p
