***Official GTX 670 thread***

I'd say they don't know the cause which is why they say 'extensive testing' but want to release a statement saying they have to reassure people that it's going to be fixed.

What games force vsync?

Off the top of my head, pretty much any 'solid' console port, Fifa12, Bulletstorm, for some reason Batman AC won't shift by 60 fps even with v-sync disabled.

I tend to play with v-sync disabled most of the time, 120hz monitor I don't notice much tearing at all, but these games that are frame limited from the game engine its a real hassle.

I'd really love to play some of my old games on my current rig like Mechwarrior or System shock 2 but it seems I can't. Windows. Whatever. Anyways. I'm over it.

Anyone know whut the record is for time spent on Skyrim?

(yes I've had a few again )

iirc someone on reddit having 800+ hours, pretty sure they had 700+ on oblivion and 1200+ on morrowind too :p

sorry i don't understand what your talking about, team?? is this football or something

Exactly, allot of epople here are either 'AMD' or 'Nvidia' and most of them liek to pretend and act as if they are not.

Need to just understand they are bits of plastic and metal that do a job, not a football team.

Most Unreal engine games are locked to 60 fps, you have to go into the game installation folder and open settings with notepad, scroll to max fps and change it to 120.

Y'know I've really understood this animosity between AMD and Nvidia.

I mean. AMD? They're just merde really aren't they?

Kidding!!!!

Ok here is a log from PX while gaming on a low-end title, with forced v-sync via the game engine, the slight dips in FPS you see are where the stuttering happens, take not of how much the GPU clock and memory speed change, this is how 'boost' works. If it was a direct 3D clock as cards pre-6x0 had, then FPS, core clock, memory clock would all be perfectly straight lines.

Yup the graphs are very similar and certain games are terrible for it. I'm almost certain I will send this card back under DSR and probably (I know it sounds typical) go for a 7970. I really really wanted a good 3D setup but I honestly can't have a high end card that causes itself to suffer in games due to a power saving feature I really don't need or want. At least with the 7970 I can set a constant clock but at the cost of well supported 3d :( and the prospect that this won't be fixed by a driver release any time soon.

Is it possible to turn off Vsync and negate the issue, or is it always on regardless?

Sorry about this, its just I'm thinking of getting a 670 next week, if it cannot be turned off I think i'll have to get a 7970.

Cheers

GeForce GTX 295 Quad SLI | GTX 670 SLI
Thought it would be interesting for me to compare the difference between GTX295 Quad SLI and GTX670 SLI on my set-up and would share the results for information and give some general impressions.

I also thought it would be interesting to do some more whilst I was there:

First Impressions
So far very pleased with the noise, temperature and performance of these SLI GTX 670's compared to Quad SLI GTX 295's. Although I have not played a game yet, I am very pleased with the benchmarking results I have seen. I am not sure why the older benchmarks are reduced performance in terms of score, although it does not matter.

literally only 1 or 2 people have complained about stuttering (in this thread)

But its SERIES inherent. That means that it is an issue suffered by all cards...or seems to be, but those that do not play games with forced V-sync, i.e. console ports, will not even know what this stuttering is.

The fact remains that it is not acceptable for a mid-top priced/ranged card.

Most people probably only play one title for a lengthily period at a time, but should you wish to play many games and try different games out for fun, you would expect to eventually find a title that suffers from this issue unless it is fixed.

The statement is reassuring from Nvidia, but the vagueness and the lack of response is a concern. I am a prospective buyer and unless I can be guarenteed that all games will not have such game-changing experiences (in a negative sense) I will not fork out over three-hundred pounds for what should be the price of a high end card for one that only works with certain games.

If this issue didnt exist, I would be 100% looking at trying Nvidia cards as they do seem promising, but the hate for AMD that is displayed by some I cannot fathom, as I own an AMD card and to be fair it has been very good. This stuttering is a major issue that until fixed I will not purchase.

I mentioned the pointless benchmark scores because people dont 'play' benchmarks. I am only really interested at within game performance. Most people suggest Nvidia performs better within the majority of games (not found much conclusive evidence), however if this issue is not fixed soon surely Nvidia's gaming image is going to be blemished. The Active-Vsync is a massive selling point of both Z77 motherboards and 6xx series cards.

Hopefully they will fix it, but for me...the waters become even more cloudy as to which card to buy - 670/80/85 even, or 7970/7990/whatever comes next
