***Official GTX 670 thread***

This thread is quite interesting. I don't/try my best not to upgrade my GPU too often, so when I do I try to buy about the best single card I can within a reasonable budget. My current GTX 280 has lasted me well but I'm now looking at upgrading. (I'm still using my 1680*1050 monitor as the panel is fantastic, but I will be upgrading to 24" 1920*1080 or a 27" 2550?*1440 monitor in the future so want a card with strong performance)
Due to my case and limited space, I would be going for a card with an exhausting cooler, but I'm torn. The I know an overclocked 670 is as good as a 680 or better but the exhausting 670's appear to have poorer pcb's/power and limit the overclocking somewhat, which has me thinking that a basic 680 would be worth the premium to me. (plus maybe the greater shaders would keep the minimum frame rates higher..?)
Brand wise I'm looking at EVGA due to their warranty (though I hope to never need it).

Anyone else having a similar dilema?

I got the EVGA basic one because it was the cheapest I could find... as pgi says, turns out it has a pretty decent cooler on it as mine runs 1201mhz 65% 65C even in this hotter weather

Not sure whether to get the ASUS or the Gigabyte Windforce.. i've seen the windforce going £10 cheaper than ASUS too.

What's this TOP edition, do ASUS have two versions?

I have a windforce and love it. But reason I went for windoforce is because of rma and so many people saying it is a great card. Asus = poorest rma known to man.

Just had an idea. What if I bought four Windforce 670's, tested them all separately for best overclocks (with heaven) and the best two to do 1300MHz+ I keep for SLI and then if the other two are also 1300+ sell them on in the MM for cost or else just DSR them?

Would that be frowned upon?

It would be stupid.

Sorry but it would.

I'm hoping my wind force is sitting at the local post office when I get home as I ordered it over a week ago but have been in traveling since then so haven't been home to pick it up!

Hotel forum reading of the multiple 670 threads has made me rethink my case fan flow tho, so I'll think I'll rejig things bit when I fit it.

Fingers crossed its a good clocker.

I've also had the fortune of a free i7 2600k swap over my current i5 2500k (clocked at 4.5), although I'm unsure of the benefits it will offer? I'll have both chips for as long as I want so have some time to test. Can anyone chime in on if it's worth the swap over & time investing in finding the 2600k overclock.

I'll also need to read up a little on the whole driver cleaner process as I've been AMD for a while and I know my current install refuses to uninstall cap files from the control panel.

Lastly, I haven't managed to play any diablo 3 for a week, finished normal on my barb moments before I had to leave for the airport, so the temptation to just remove the 2 x 6870 and slap in the 670 at stock is quite great right now.

Hmmmm!

Just wanted to say very happy with my 670 windforce. My main aim was power and silence, not overclocking, and it's fantastic in that respect, can't tell it's running the fans any faster under load.

yes

obviously if you wanted to get the best memory OC it would be an idea to also try ramsinks (as they aren't expensive either)

you also need to make sure the VRMs are properly cooled e.g. a spot cool or similar
