***Official GTX 670 thread***

Purchased an MSI 670 GTX PE the other day.

Early days, but so far pretty impressed.

Definitely quieter than my 580 Twin Frozr under load.

20C idle (nippy up here in Scotland at the moment) and yet to see it go over 60C in games. Even OCCT after one hour only hit 65C. At these temps the fan never goes over 50% and I can't hear it over the pretty quiet Gentle Typhoons in the case (even with the side panel off).

Boosts to 1162mhz under load.

Yet to play with Afterburner. This card appears to be one of the few 670/680's that allows voltage adjustment in AB.

Well added the back bracket as more of a visual thing than anything else.

Turns out it cools the memory chips on the back of the card too, keeping them nice and cool.

Surprised at how warm the back plate gets tbh.

Re-built my loop yesterday, card now idles at 30 degrees or less and hits low 40s on load, really impressed.

Tempted by a 2nd hand Asus one (non TOP) for £270. Im pretty sure it will be a good upgrade from my 470. How does the price sound as I cant seem to see it for new on OcuK anymore.

Well my 670 is in, had a moment when one of the PSU power connectors was touching my case fan and I thought the loud clicking was the GPU fan!

Performance wise I went from 45-55 FPS on High to 90-110FPS! Changed to ultra, set Vsync, couldn't see the difference and got a set 60 FPS without a single drop in the 5 minutes of BF3 i played.

OUCH! reached 98'C there. Something's not right!

Had a play with the fan profiles before i went in so have had another look and made it scale up a lot quicker than before. My Gigabyte 460 had a 'case vent' windforce but only ever reached 70'C max. This one has an external vent and gets hotter?

Is it overclocked? That does seem extremely high I must say. What res you playing at? And what's the case airflow like?

I've been looking at a 690 / SLI 680s or SLI 670s and due to the minimal performance difference decided on the 670s

I need to keep to dual slot and had was about set on the Asus dcu2 as seems to run quiet and cool and also comes with a sweet looking backplate :)

The downside however is I don't believe Asus have great customer service should I need to return under warranty and the other thing is the 2gb of VRAM (coming from 3gb GTX580s)

I have a 6000x1200 setup but only use full surround for some games but feel the 4gb would give a bit more future proof and help with holding the value for a resale in the future

The 4gb EVGA looks nice but also you pay the premium :s but you also get probably the best warranty so .....

Decisions decisions ! Has anyone gone for the 4gb EVGA sc and if so what's it like for noise and temperatures ?

Cheers

Res is 1680x1050. Card is a reference EVGA.

Case is an NZXT Lexa Blackline. It has a 120MM front and side blowing in, a top 80MM Blowing in as well from what I can tell and the 120MM blowing out on the back. There is a space for a bottom fan but it's currently unused. I could get a small 80MM fan there which would blow almost directly onto the card's fan intake but I'm still surprised that an external vent card is getting hotter than the previous case vent card I had.

I dropped the detail to High in BF3 and enabled V-Sync which helped keep the temps in check but that's not why I bought the card. Having said that I can't tell the difference between High and Ultra.

MissChief

Still sounds pretty warm to me, even for a reference cooler. Wondering if the HSF is not seated correctly!

Are you sure your top fan is "blowing in"? Heat obviously rises, so I would have thought this should be an extract fan!

If you have not tried yet, then remove side panel and see what it then looks like.
