***Official GTX 670 thread***

Vuvu, these are pretty much the max I was able to get. I wouldn't start with those. You need to build up to them slowly. We have come to the conclusion that we are bios/power limited currently and thermally this card can achieve a lot more. Talking specifically about the windforce which seems to have a simply incredible cooler.

Yeah I know mate, running the windforce too, so thought I would try. I did start quite low but I couldn't come close to yours with out it crashing

on Core I went +127 Mem +444 and that's about the limit

I'm back from work!

Just redone the Heaven bench @ 1920x1050,

Much better results :)

That's a stock bench on reference KFA2 GTX 670 boosting @ 1084

Temps maxing out @ 79c

Fan hitting 54% (fairly audible)

Temped to have a play at overclocking, it won't damage the card no?

Very good. A little on the warm side so I would just ensure you are monitoring temps if you do try to OC. Maybe also change the fan profile to kick in higher speeds at lower temps if you only reached 54%. For benching better to be safe than worry about noise.

Ah shame. Still pretty good overclock you have there. I'd probably say if you are 1200 / 7000 or over, that's pretty good. Some cards will just do more.

Can anyone else with the KFA2 EX OC card do me a favour and monitor their temperatures at stock speeds while running heaven?

I reseated my cooler and added a side fan which reduced the max temperature by 5 degrees at full fan speed, but at stock settings its still exceeding 70 degrees and reducing my stock clocks and voltage within a few minutes.

I noticed when reseating the cooler that the heatsink had two points where it had been dented. I think I got a bad cooler on mine :x

I'll email KFA2 tech support too about the temperatures, eeryone else have been reporting far lower temps than mine.

New bench tonight.

Room is very warm so temps hit 82c, Fan never got above 60% speed with Auto profile.

Power = 122
Core = +125
Mem = +200

Thermal upper limit on the GTX670 is 97C so you are quite safe. It could just be you had a bad cooler as you say. Under what circumstances is it reducing your stock clock and voltage? Running heaven or in-game? If it is doing this under normal use despite reseating the cooler and repasting, something else is wrong.

These GTX 670s reduce clock speed and voltage if the temperature exceeds 70 degrees. I think I'm going to order a Gigabyte now and DSR this one as Azza said, Im not bothered about the overclock speed, but its heating up far too much when everyone else are only getting temperatures around 45-50 degrees under load at stock settings.

Good job, that's much more like it but tessellation was moderate rather than normal which most people run.

When overclocking I'd just stick the fan at a higher speed or adjust the fan profile to be more aggressive.

Temps do seen a bit high for your particular card. Could be just a bad cooler. Aren't you going to have problem returning under DSR if you've removed the cooler?:(

Mine doesn't, it would be ridiculous if they reduced speed after only 70c, most people will hit that, I've had mine running into the 80's and it's stayed at it's boosted core rating.

Bugger!, I thought I had it set right, gonna try again with normal

Kepler GPUs do throttle at 70 and 80 degrees, open up MSI afterburner and look at the GPU speed and voltages wile its running.

These gigabyte and KFA2 cards shouldnt be hitting 70 degrees with their stock settings and these coolers anyway.

I have been, I've got after burner running on my secondary screen while benching, I'm hitting 79c and my core clock stays @ 1084Mhz, oddly enough the only time I've seen it drop low is when it's not being pushed hard (in games), I guess for power saving.

Mine did the same until I manually tweaked the fan settings. Now even with my OC (1300/7100) the card never gets above 64c and with a much smoother fan curve, the fan only really gets audible over 60c. At stock the fan never went above around 45% even when the card went above 70c, and was still silent. I can live with a tiny amount of fan noise to keep my card in the low-mid 60's when OC'd.

Mine is still going over 70 degrees with 60% fan speed. Clearly something wrong then.

I need full 75% fan speed for 65 degrees, with a side fan too!

I've sent that to KFA2 support, and posted a thread in technical support here, I doubt it can be fixed at all but I thought I would let KFA2 support know about it and have asked OCUK if I can get it replaced with a gigabyte windforce.

Could other people with the KFA2 or Gigabyte custom cooled cards please post a screenshot of stock setting afterburner graphs during heaven runs like mine so I can compare?

Atually I should be ok now. The first time I reseated the cooler I accidentally splurged out too much gloop over the GPU, and although it improved and there was much less sticky stuff than it had from the manufacturer, it wasnt ideal as it was still too much.

This time, probably due to my gloop sack being less full as it was already previously used, I managed to squeeze out a much smaller amount of creamy gloop, and just enough to cover the GPU with a thin pearly coating:

Original temperature at this setting was 69-70 degrees.
After the first exciting gloop application, it reduced to 65-67 degrees.
After the second, much smaller gloop application, it is now down to 63 degrees, and I can comfortably run the fan at 70% which is far less noisy and keep my temerature well under 70 degrees.

I have no idea how and why graphics cards manufacturers cover their card's GPUs with such an excessive amount of gloop, they must REALLY enjoy their jobs or something.

70 C - you are lucky, mine card has 79 when benchmarking Heaven ;)
But......... Fan is spinning at 45 % and dead quiet ;)

I wonder why they get so hot? My 680 runs at 65c at 65% fan speed (max load). Reference design as well. Overclock settings in signature (fairly decent)
