****Official GTX580 user reviews/benchmarking/overclocking thread****

So what are you guys able to achieve for 24/7 overclocks?

I've tried a few games but almost everything seems to get some artifacts past 825 with voltage increase and pretty much any memory increase is resulting in artifacts.

So for benchmarking it's great, for gamings the overclock is pretty crap.

Im running at:

Voltage 1031

Core 870mhz

Memory 2180

Autofan-fan gets to 72% at times

Ive tried to create some custom fan profiles with Afterburner but cant seem to set it up correctly:o

I was running at 900 mhz, but the voltage needed to be very high so im now running at the above clocks 24/7

Temps arent that great now with my OC, and when gaming my temps are 89-90c a little too near the thermal threshold for my liking tbh.

When overclocking you should do a custom fan profile to keep temps down, auto fan is very lax.

I'm happy so long as it stays below 90C and the noise stays low.

Nice, what is the thermal threshold for this GPU?

480 was only 105c thermal threshold

Crazy to think GTX480 in SLI would be running within only a few degrees of the thermal limit. Will have to monitor temps closely to make sure they don't exceed 90C

It's not like i'll run it overclocked all the time though, just for games like Crysis and Metro 2033.

Not much point for stuff like L4D2 and Civilization V. :D

You will need a high voltage and a 900mhz + on the 580 for the card to reach thermal shutdown imo.

Apart from Heaven benchmark where i have to run the fan at 85% on my current clocks:eek:

My 2 x gtx 470's, clocked at 751/1502/1684. 1680x1050 though.

Bit cheaper than a 580, though they look like a great card, one day two in sli perhaps.:D

Cheers mate, seems a lot better than the 470's, in cod mw2 i was hitting 84c, (auto fan, cards oc'd at 751mhz), checked the fan speed with afterburner, running at 55%, very poor fan control setting tbh.

Read the review.

They conclude older games will run into cpu bottlnecks, newer ones may not. Also overclocking these cards did not have that much of an effect on gaming performance as there is so much power there already with 3 way. Some nice gains in BF2, Metro and that's about it. The big worry is noise and heat though. They saw 95 degress with no overclock and they don't recommend any voltage adjustment as a result. I guess 3 cards mashed together is not the best for airflow. 3 way is also very noisy it seems.
