****Official GTX580 user reviews/benchmarking/overclocking thread****

Bought an Asus GTX580 this morning @ retail for a very good price. As EVGA are effectively snubbing all markets except Germany & US with their high end Nvidia cards (they allocate most of their stock there eversince the GTX480 came out). UK gets little love from EVGA.

Asus is my favorite Nvidia brand now :D

Loving it so far its the best card Nvidia have ever made. Max detail @ 1920x1200 & its still 100% silent but seems in real world gaming to me about 15% faster. My GTX480 was good (& 100% silent with a Gelid HSF) but the 580 is great as the 480 could at times stutter in certain games with max IQ.

The GTX580 is a stonking single GPU card no wonder they are selling out everywhere

Will post some pics later :D

Another happy 580 owner, might be another one joining the club soon...;)

LOL,im quite sure i read you saying the other day,yes im sure, that you said there was no way you would buy a 580, as you can justify it over the 480,as the performance increase isnt that much (Not said in those exact words mind)??

And your 480 can keep up with an 580,changing your mind yet again?

Raven changing his opinion on a card? Say it aint so

ive had my msi gtx 580 now for 4 days and its the best card ive owned. coming from sli gtx 460's (768mb) i wasn't really expecting much of an increase in performance but i was so wrong.

my fps in heaven went up 27.1% and the minimum frames went for 4.8 to 17.4. thats 262.5% increase. score when from 633 to 804. (1920x1980, extreme tesselation, 16xaf and 8xaa)

the sli setup was also very loud because the top card was sucking up all the heat. playing games was no longer a pleasure as the noise was unberable.

the 580 is so quiet its quality. running heaven maxed out got the heat to 87c and the fan at auto hit 60% (which is still very quite)

batman arkham asylum benchmark when up in fps. metro moved up slightly but it felt so much better as the micro stutter in metro was horrible for the sli setup.

overall im very please and it was a £410 very well spent.

I've quietly been lurking on this thread from the start.

Manage to sell my decent overclocking 480 for some silly high price , figured worth the gamble when taking into consideration 2nd hand 480 prices will drop quick, along with the heat issues, noise and the rest. So I've orderd GTX580 for £395.00, shame OcUK are currently very steep price wise, otherwise they would have my order.

Wow!. Seems very pricey for such a small increase in performance. If they were guaranteed 950mhz jobs with custom cooling I could understand. Then again I never trust factory overclocked cards since I had issues in the past with XFX and artifacting. And I definitely don't trust Gainward cards since i found out they are owned by Pailit which had issues on their overclocked card. And while my thinking might be wrong here, I can't help it. Personally, I'd much rather buy stock and hope I can clock it myself which seems to be possible on nearly all 580's to date, even mine which on stock volts manage 830mhz no problem, and 850mhz with a small voltage increase. I've even been successful at 900mhz but it isn't worth the heat, or having to make custom fan profiles to deal with it.
