****Official GTX580 user reviews/benchmarking/overclocking thread****

I had a button on 6870 for £355 including delivery on release day AND
I had a button on 580 for £380 including delivery on release day.
would have waited for 6970 but theres not much the grapewine coming from AMD.....
580 won it for me.

I think for folks who have a 470 and are Sli capable then adding another 470 at current pricing is a must. I can even see where buying 2 470's now for £330 makes sense over £400 for 580. Personally if I had £400 i would buy the 580.:)

Is it me, or since the gtx 280, and arguably the 9800 series as well, have Nvidia's cards not just become so aesthetically boring? I personally think that the 9800gx2 looked decent, apart from that, cards after the 8800 series just look so dull?

I kind of agree. I was pretty set on MSI's Lightning 480, it's a work of art. But I can't really justify it now. Unless I come across any benchmarks comparing it to the 580 and it's equal.

^ Do drop in here again with some pics and benchmarks. :) What brand 580 did you get?

Didn't want to get too carried away, so just went for the Palit.

Played around with a palit 460 for my old man, and it seemed pretty decent so can't be too bad. :)

The benchmarks will be quite interesting for me actually, as I only have a q6600 where as everyone else here seems to have i5's and i7's, so it will be a good way to tell if im bottlenecking it.

Upgrades on the list tho ^_^

That will be interesting to see.

At the moment I'm on a Q6600 as well and I'll probably be looking to go for either i7 or a new card, but not both.

Yeah the Palit is just as good as an EVGA in hardware terms because all 580's are all reference currently. If your Q6600 is at or over 3Ghz it should limit the bottleneck somewhat.

HardOCP Gold award.

We feel NVIDIA deserves big praise for the GTX 580! It has impressed us with its incredible gameplay and exceeded all of our expectations in terms of cooling and sound. It provides a better gameplay experience than the GeForce GTX 480, uses less power, and runs cooler. All of this adds up to the fact that we feel the GeForce GTX 580 earns our Gold [H] Editor's Choice award.

I side with ATI/AMD but the 580 seems like a quality product. Lots of considerations went into designing it with respect to the 480's flaws and NVIDIA deserves congratulations for a job well done.
