****Official GTX580 user reviews/benchmarking/overclocking thread****

Just ordered the 580, looking forward to just making sure everything is enabled and sliders set to the right. :p

I've never been into benchmark programs, if I have time and feel confident enough to put something good together I'll post some scores.

Was just about to buy, but my good friend talked me out of it.
Wait another 2 weeks to compare, makes sense to me, I'm just very eager to buy as I've been without for 2 months now.
Are you guys who bought today not going to be •••••• off should the 6970 be some what better than the 580

Considering the 580 is knocking on the 5970's door performance wise, and AMD position the 6970 behind the 5970 in speed, I would say it will be very close between a 580 and 6970.

.

Load up Metro2033 then ;)

It really does show how badly coded it is that everything on max at 1920 x 1200 and even with two gtx580 in SLI it still dips well below 30fps.

Depends. I think the 6970 will be behind GTX580 performance-wise although it may be a lot cheaper. I wouldn't be surprised if it was 20% saving for 5% performance drop or so.

Crunch is going to be the price. If priced low and matches the gtx580 performance wise then expect Nvidia to drop the price of the gtx580 in response. Good times ahead for consumers if that happens.

WoW here we go again, GPU Wars, just love the bitchiness, right we will settle it once and for all. Everybody 1 week from today, the ATI Fan Boys + the NVidea Fan Boys get it on in Wembly Football Stadium and its red handbags for ATI and green for NVidea...;)

May the best handbag win..:D > game on...

Nice to see nVidia with a more competitive product. But I'm in no hurry, as benchmarks in non-TWIMTBP titles show the 5970 still to be a faster card or right up there. I'll be waiting to see what AMD offers with their new cards to see whether it's worth selling my current card. But £800 for a 580GTX SLI rig is just a bit too much for me.

£250 easily.

In that case, I can't afford a GTX 580 :p Spent all my money on other things recently. Also, going to save up for an SSD next year :D

That aside, you have to hand it to Nvidia. They obviously had a good look at GF100, and made some excellent changes. Also, I'm really shocked that there is ALREADY stock! Very surprised. They are pretty much back on track with AMD in terms of iterations.

phew you had me worried this after noon :D roll the next batch of cards

Yeah they did a great job and TBH my 480 at 850 core will do me just fine until the next big thing comes along.

Agreed mate. It's things like this that show how powerful electronic engineering is :p

Being able to take a good design with problems, but then perfecting it, is amazing.

My GTX 480 is also at 850 core/2000 memory, so it should do me very well until next year and the 600 series from Nvidia :p

Ordered the EVGA, should arrive tomorrow.
New PSU too, so will take a while to install.
Replacing an old 8800 GTX - which was getting to some awful temps (its idling at 60 as I type).
Sadly motherboard doesn't support SLI so I had to go for a single GPU solution.
Running a Q6600 processor overclocked to somewhere around 3.2GHz - watercooled, could probably overclock more.
I'll get some benchmarks as soon as I can but Black Ops may distract me.

My future upgrade plan is to migrate to a new processor and motherboard at some point, and if by then the GPU needs a bit more punch then I can SLI easy enough - be interesting to see a 3 * SLI benchmark on a 580 ;)

(Also will be interested to see if a decent watercooling block comes out for the 580 and then just how far you can overclock the thing)
