****Official GTX580 user reviews/benchmarking/overclocking thread****

There is new tech, granted not a lot but it is there and it all adds up to a nice boost in perfomance over a 480 :p

I'd call it a re-spin really. I think it's shame that it isn't really new at all. It would have been nice had they added some new features like 3 displays per card or something. I really can't get my head around why people are "upgrading" to these from 480s though, surely you're all gonna be losing money on what is essentially a sidegrade?

£399 heatsink upgrade. :D

lol thats what I was thinking...

I'm feeling quite happy myself... £370 down on 2x GTX470 in SLI and even at stock they quite comfortably outperform an overclocked GTX580.

In order to stay within the 300 W power limit, NVIDIA has added a power draw limitation system to their card. When either Furmark or OCCT are detected running by the driver, three sensors measure the inrush current and voltage on all 12 V lines (PCI-E slot, 6-pin, 8-pin) to calculate power. As soon as the power draw exceeds a predefined limit, the card will automatically clock down and restore clocks as soon as the overcurrent situation has gone away. NVIDIA emphasizes this is to avoid damage to cards or motherboards from these stress testing applications and claims that in normal games and applications such an overload will not happen.

Hmm its still hitting 330~ watt even with throttling. Not cool !

Gain in 3 and 4 way aren't that great overall, infact 4 way GTX470 SLI v 4 way GTX580 SLI with decent overclocks on each would probably come out very similiar unless you had a monster CPU.

You guys reckon a XFX 850w modular or Corsair 850w modular psu could run these in SLI with an i7 920 @4ghz? i think it can but not 100% sure. :p

Also would going from a 5870 to one of these be worth it you think? i game at 1920x1200 res currently but soon going to 2560x1600 hence why i am thinking of upgrading it.

Went for one of the < 400 cards. I'm upgrading from a 260 and have no interest in SLI (nor waiting for 69XX) so expecting a fair jump in performance.

I've only played Metro on the 360 so looking forward to putting the card through its paces on the PC version.

260 - 580 now that is a worthwhile upgrade :D

Good idea sticking with Nvidia as it means no pain switching drivers.

You should notice the awesomeness straight away.

(I'd say the same thing to someone going from a 4850 to a 6970)

^^^ nice! u got to overclock that puppy.
How much did u pay for it including delivery?

Got it from here so it was £424.99 pretty expensive really but the free shipping and the forum makes up for the price difference, plus I couldn't wait :p. Upgraded from a 280 (size comparison below) so should be a nice performance increase!
