** Official Horizon: Forbidden West Complete Edition Thread **

God I'd forgotten that but you're right, it was shimmer central. I ended up stopping and playing Elden Ring until they patched and fixed it because it was so distracting.

I reckon it would have given @Nexus18 an actual heart attack.
I played it at 30fps, they fixed the 60 mode after I finished it. Now they have a vrr mode which runs at ~80fps so will use that for the dlc that I have had for ages but yet to play.

Interestingly I have played on and off with HDR, just not since the patch. I did play with it just now though and can confirm that it seems the frametime hitching with HDR enabled is gone. I recorded some HDR gameplay during a boss fight and all the way travelling to, during and from this section there were no adverse frame hitches all whilst HDR was on. Weird.

(probably take ages to process the HDR version)

Anyway, HDR does look good I will admit, it looks better with the official slider fixed than the modded implementation pre-patch.

Because the frametime hitching is gone with HDR on, this gives an extra reason to keep it on whilst playing I suppose :p

Burning shores is even better for showing of the the HDR. Visuals are really nice but you know my thoughts on raster...... :p

If only consoles had DLSS for the "better than native" IQ :D But yes, if there was bad shimmer, I wouldn't have touched it, that's a complete no go for me now as causes eye strain and is immersion breaking.

All jokes aside, I am quite interested to see how Sony's 'PSSR' turns out. If it can compete with DLSS then it'll be interesting to see how much it ends up being used on the PS5 Pro / PS6 etc.

Ha ha, yeh I definitely didn't do that.
Think my biggest issue with fw was doing it straight after zd, probably burnt out on it.
Kind of wish I had a few years in between, and fw on ps5 at release had serious aa issues.
Still think zd was the better game even with all that in mind tho.

Yeah. For me it is the story. The original was very good imo. HFW is decent and I am enjoying it, but does not compare so far to the original. But for me as I liked the gameplay of the original and this is more of the same with better graphics, I just get hooked and time flies when I play.

I do agree if you play one after the other that would create burn out.

I am going to be taking my time and doing everything or at least most of it. Might not do every errand for example, but for sure will do every side quest and visit every part of the map before I finally complete it.

I know on e I actually complete the main story I will lose interest. That happens to me almost every time in games.

I will probably reinstall the original now that I'm a good chunk through FW and actually like the story, so completing teh first even through the tedious parts would be of benefit.

What are Nvidia smoking, RTX: On is supposed to include ray tracing no?

You have also fallen for nvidias marketing it seems :p :D

RTX is nothing to do with ray tracing, well except for the tools, plugins etc. to implement RT from a devs pov. RTX is nvidias feature set which can be anything like dlss, fg, reflex and a number of other things.

I mean as in all of their marketing on other games has been "RTX: ON" when showing ray tracing enabled vs ray tracing disabled lol

Not always, they definetly have games where they done the same and there has also been no RT.
Yeah they've been quite sneaky with it recently.

They'll always announce games as 'RTX: ON' and then will have a 'Tech inside: DLSS 3, DLSS 2, and Reflex' note below where it lists what actual features are included. My assumption was always that RTX=Ray Tracing but it now covers all of that suite.
